A brutal power struggle has been raging in Sudan between the army and a paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces, or RSF. At BBC Verify, we've been investigating a massacre which took place in October and killed at least 80 people. The massacre happened here in Asarija. We've analyzed four separate videos of the aftermath showing dead bodies lined up in the courtyard of a mosque. We've chosen not to show you the videos as their graphic. We've also uncovered evidence of freshly dug Earth mount in the town's cemetery. Have a look at these satellite photos. This was taken in May, and this is from after the attack. So who is responsible for these killings? We don't have any videos of the massacre itself, but we do have videos of the fighters before, talking about their plans, and videos of the aftermath. By analyzing videos like this one, we confirmed the perpetrators were wearing insignia from the RSF. We could tell this by the insignia worn on their arms here. And you can hear them celebrate their attack on the town and killing of locals in this video. In videos we verified to be from the same incident, fighters also filmed their hostages, including the elderly, some in what appears to be blood-stained white robes.
