Hello and welcome to this very special episode of Film On the Rocks. I'm Brookhurst and I'm Nate, and we are doing something super fun.

[00:00:21]

We are doing our first commentary. This is our first what we're calling a drink along or watch a longs. We're going to be sitting down and watching Scream from 1996. We're going to be playing with our drinking rules and kind of just having a lot of fun talking over the movie and whatnot is this is going to be a lot of fun. I'm really excited to do this. Yeah, this is super cool, man. I, I was wondering how the logistics were going to work going into this, but I think we kind of got the setup right.

[00:00:49]

I think it's good. I think we're good. Yeah. Yeah. I think this is gonna be a total blast. So if you're at home wondering what this is going to be. So like I said, it's gonna be like a kind of like a DVD commentary on this. But if you just want to listen to this like a normal podcast, you can absolutely do that because we are going to be talking throughout the movie. But if you want to, you can sync this up with the movie and kind of like watch along with us and play the drinking games with us or whatnot.

[00:01:18]

I think it'd be a lot of fun just so that everybody knows. If you are thinking this up with the movie, we are starting at timecode zero zero seven. We are right now paused at seven seconds into the movie. What's on the screen is the Dimension Film's logo, and that's where we're going to start. I will let you know when we hit play. We haven't hit play yet, so just wait for my cue. Yeah, Dimension logo.

[00:01:42]

And then we just heard the thunder, the thunder played and then dimensioned. Cool. Yes. So this is like a fun little project that I've been wanting to do for over a year. I think I think it would be really fun for us to do a movie or even TV show commentaries in the industry. A lot of fun.

[00:02:01]

Um, this is actually something this is like one of the first things you wanted to do, right? Um, yeah. The podcast actually started in October and you're just like, dude, let's hit Halloween so hard. Yeah.

[00:02:14]

It's like, oh fuck, I don't think I'm ready, but it's finally happening. Yeah. And of course, people who pay attention to the podcast have listened for a while. Just know I'm a crazy Scream fan and this is also just a very fun movie to sort of just watch with a friend. So I really started to kind of do this. And if people listening is kind of like we're all watching it together, we'll fill in the rocks.

[00:02:38]

Movie Party is a lot of fun, family time and family time. I just want to mention that Nate and I, we both live in apartments and art. We can't our girlfriends that live with us do have lives. So you might hear them walk around the background a little bit. I mean, I don't think would be anything super crazy, but we can't keep them locked in the bedroom for like three hours.

[00:03:01]

So, yeah, yeah. You might hear my dog, like, tip tapping on my floors. Yeah. But I'll, I'll try to meet it whenever that happens. And I'll definitely pause whenever I got I got movie snacks, I got some pretzels, I got my beer. I'll definitely pause or not pause. I'll shoot myself whenever I'm munching. Or if you don't hear one of us for like ten seconds we probably got up to go get another beer.

[00:03:23]

So just let everybody know this. What's going on. So, uh, this will be like, fine. I just want to kind of remind people, if you are playing this with us, doing the drinking rules, I just want to remind everyone to drink responsibly. Uber, get a lift if you're going somewhere or just stay home and do this. That's the safest thing to do. But just kind of remind people to drink responsibly, make sure you get some food on you, because these drinking games get sometimes get a little out of hand.

[00:03:47]

And I'm a little nervous because it's a school night and it is. It's frickin Wednesday, man. What are we doing right now for the podcast? And you're listening to this. You're a on subscriber. Thank you so much for your for supporting the show and everything gets going towards this movie rental. So thank you. Thank you so much. So we'll go over kind of some quick things like what are we drinking tonight, the drinking rules. And and I kind of want to ask you, when was the last time you watched Scream?

[00:04:22]

It was it was when we did the podcast. What was it like almost exactly a year ago? Yeah, eerie. I know. To the day. Who knew? I never thought I'd be doing this year later. Yeah, you just you didn't know you were friends with a freak. But I knew that.

[00:04:41]

I knew that I knew like I said, I normally watch this movie like once a month, but I've actually been on a scream hiatus. It's been a long time since I've actually watched this. I've been keeping tabs on the scream screen credits and everything. But I remember the last time I saw this, it was the last time I was in my office before lockdown happened. So that was and that was way back in March. So it's been. It's been a few months for me, so this is this is my official scream trial for my October movie festival.

[00:05:18]

I'm really excited this will be so much fun and will be kicking out the whole time, folks. And the rules, the rules that we're using are from the from the original episode. The original Scream episode. Yes. So some things are going to be a little familiar, some rules for me personally that I look back on some of my rules. I was like, OK, that's dumb now that we're like preparing for it. But yeah, I think it's going to be a lot of fun still.

[00:05:42]

Oh, my goodness. I went back listen to that episode to kind of prep for this to be like, what did we talk about in that episode? Oh my gosh, I am so happy that the podcast has gone better. Oh, damn. That was like that was a meh episode, too. So fuck you. I'm just kidding. No.

[00:06:00]

Do I like hated just like everything that like I had to say or like I was just all over the place and it's hilarious. I don't ever remember not knowing anybody's name anything. I think I kept calling that one of the dudes Shaggy because he was shaggy methuselahs do.

[00:06:19]

Yeah. We don't either. We don't repeat that. But yeah I am sorry. I'll be better. All right. So let's kind of just refresh people on what the drinking rules are. So, Nate, what were your drinking rules from that episode? Oh, from that episode. OK, let me pull it up. So mine were where every time the door was locked or obstructed, take a drink every time you heard the phone ring, take a drink every time you think I wouldn't do that to drink.

[00:06:50]

And that was one of the ones where you like that. I kind of like that was one that was one of those kind of like I don't think I would. Oh, well, now that you're saying it, I think I think it's cool. Now, uh, every time the characters are self-aware, take a drink. And then every time you see an outdated electronic pointed out and your friend has to take a drink. So you get it's like a a race to the finish.

[00:07:12]

It's a good one. Yeah. And then I had a little bonus rule that that I just came up with. Now, recently was while we're watching the movie, if we just if we point out a point in the movie where we think we're going to die like that, we would have died in that situation, take three drinks pouring out like that. So my drinking rules were, uh, every time that they break the rules of horror movie, whenever the phone rings, whenever somebody mentions Cindy's mom's death, do we get to make fun of when they make a movie reference and whenever Ghostface is hit and or like it falls to the ground because he's very clumsy and flailing a lot in this.

[00:07:54]

So, uh, so those are my rules. The rules I'm going to be officially playing by. I want to officially be playing by whenever the phone rings, I'm going to be drinking movie references made. Ghostface is hit or falling and I am going to take Nate's rule on whenever a door is locked or obstructed. Oh, thank you. OK, so I am going to do every time the phone rings so we'll tag team that one, the outdated electronics one.

[00:08:26]

I think that'll be fun to make you drink personally. Uh, door locked in an obstructed and then I'm going to take one of yours. Whatever Ghostface is hit or falls cool's I'm playing by four four and then that fifth one same whatever. Whenever we come across. Yes, we will be playing his electronic outdate electronic rule. We'll both be trying to point it out for the other person. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. All right. Well, I'm trying to think I'm going to look for my notes real quick.

[00:08:57]

I don't think I got anything else to say. But so again, we are starting this at the seven seconds in. That's what reports that. So if you want to get things done as we're at and I was just doing three, two, one, go and I'll go hit play. OK, I just realized you were talking to me. Let's do it. All right. Three to one go. Oh shit. It's happening. Oh, this.

[00:09:25]

So the phone's ringing. Oh, I miss that sound of like that. That household phone that that corded phone number. Then it starts hot. Yeah. Oh, best. Twelve minutes of a movie. It still exists, gets she goes, wow, that's a quick call back to you, that's freaky. That's two drinks, by the way. Oh, yes. Also, that's a cordless phone. Oh, dear. I was waiting to see how long it would take.

[00:10:10]

I'm already losing.

[00:10:15]

I love the 900 number is not a website I don't count that is outdated. Oh damn do haircuts count is outdated because she's got like that's not technology.

[00:10:29]

Jiffy Pop, is that outdated, that those are still it's still around, it's still the phone just rang up computer in the background. That thing is a big old matchbox. Popcorn. I love this. She grabs a knife for Halloween. Scream, this movie reminds me of Scream Cabin in the Woods. Yeah. I love how all this is being timed with the Jiffy Pop, like that's kind of like how the audience is keeping up with how much time has passed.

[00:11:24]

Yeah, it's like an Assim R-2. We got, like, the popcorn popping. He's like, slow talking to you. It's kind of weird, but his house is immaculate. Just walking through it right now. Mm hmm. Look at that box TV debate during Pro. Great line, I love the zoom into her face. Mm hmm. So I know who I'm looking at, this is such a good turn because like where we are two minutes and 40 seconds in, like a little bit is like, what the fuck was that?

[00:12:02]

Yeah, it's such a good like this movie just got really creepy. Mm hmm. He kind of sounded like a Green Goblin just then, oh, but yeah, Roger can explain me Spider-Man. I think it's Roger Jackson that does the voice of Ghostface over the phone. So good. And these were real phone calls, he was like somewhere else on set actually making these phone calls. This wasn't just them pretending to be on a phone call either.

[00:12:34]

Oh, yeah. So I've read that whenever Drew Barrymore was making those 911 calls or somebody was making them, she was actually calling 911. They didn't forgot to unplug the phone. So she would like call and scream and then hang up and they'd call back and be like, yo, what the fuck is happening right now? And I think she did a couple of times try explaining that she's. Mm hmm. We missed a couple of phone rings. So many doors to lock me in, I know, does that count?

[00:13:12]

I hope that definitely does. We're still warming up. I'm like almost like a beer right now. I was like, damn, I should have grabbed more. Oh, I'm drinking. Sam Adams October fest, by the way, bro.

[00:13:29]

Twins, Reto. She does so many, like specific types of screams here, they're all different. I love it. Mm hmm. Phone ringing Oh, so good. Am. That's what. New this next part, the Sure. I love this freak out. I love that shaking in my boots. Is a snake in my boot. Oh, good. I love that part because it like shows he's been he's really been watching her. Mm hmm.

[00:14:53]

So this guy, Steve, that's all tied up here, he auditioned for Billy. Oh, really? Yeah, but he didn't get it. He got a he got Steve Green Célia and said, yeah, yeah. You know what? I'm convinced he's terrified here. So my career, good face acting, just eyes. He could only act. Those eyes right now is great. I'm sure he's doing well with like the masks and covid right now.

[00:15:23]

The smiles, the.

[00:15:31]

He's like, well, you know why that was a nice pool. My God, Mom. I'm curious if you know the answers to these questions need. Michael Meyers, yes. Oh, and ever seen the movie? That's what we're going to for the podcast. That's a reference. God. I think New Zealand, hmm. I'm just looking at that outlet, and it's like such a New England outlet. They're like kind of on the floorboards, kind of.

[00:16:17]

I'm pretty sure that this was filmed in California. Oh, OK. Never mind. I guess that explains the pool was a dumb question and it takes place somewhere in California as well. Wow. Well, that's a reference. I love that no way. It sounds like there's two people on the phone. Well, there were maybe yeah, so do you think that both Stu and Billy are here right now? I think Stu's on the phone, Shaggy and then the other guys out there, OK, because Stu is the one who knew all the scary stuff.

[00:17:07]

Oh, that noise, he gets gutted so fast. Well, we see, OK, I'll point out when we get there, Josh, the music is great, too, stressing me the fuck out. I think it was two people, yeah, it sounds like it to me. Mm hmm. What? That's what she grabbed, she grabs a letter opener that's outdated e-mail now I'll drink for that, but. I love how that's what I love.

[00:18:09]

That's how he reveals which door he said, not by like physically like them showing a shot of Ghostface just showing an action by him. I love that. I love that little knife sound showing its great. Oh, so good. I think something that really draws me to this movie is the design of the Ghostface outfit because it is so blanketed. So it could be anybody and it's not like a I honestly think Jason looks bad, like he just looks so gross and grotesque.

[00:18:49]

I kind of like this. It's a human and it could be literally everybody. I just love how blank it is. I think that's something that really draws me to this movie. Jason's the hockey mask, right? Yes. OK. I love how he's just, like, slinking around my she next to a vineyard. Oh my God, how beautiful. Just run like this is a point. They're like kind of always stresses me. Alex, I would have just, like, tiptoed away like by now, I think.

[00:19:20]

Then drink, brother. You wouldn't do that.

[00:19:34]

Great builder. Apparently, that was Wes Craven in the suit that the director of the movie, he just wanted his yeah, they went ahead and actually. Oh, that's awesome. I love this little Lomo, the parody of this scary movie is hilarious right in the heart. Oh, I hated that. Yeah, this part's rough. This is what I hate. Oh, gosh, it gets really rough when she actually does try to talk about. Well, I still don't know her parents don't see this.

[00:20:28]

They are just not observant. He's worried about whether it's nighttime, who's looking at the flowers can. The oh, the door's open, that's weird. They're not concerned until they get in. That makes no sense, I'd be like, who the fuck is in my place? Right. Part of me thinks that this was Stu. But I don't know. I only think that because later on they say that Stu and Casey used to date, that's probably a.

[00:21:16]

We're about to get a reference to Halloween here. I love this little camera to. I don't know how she has the strength to hold on to that phone, but good for her. That's gruesome. That's her like literally grasping on to life. Yes. The phone, her lifeline. Go over to the McKenzies, I think that's something that Laurie Strode says to the kids in the movie Halloween, which this there's a lot I know you haven't seen a movie yet, but there's a lot of Halloween nods in this movie.

[00:21:59]

Mm hmm. Uh, apparently this is supposed to be way more gruesome than that.

[00:22:10]

What an open window that is where we get right 13 minutes into the movie, that is great. OK, old computer, got you. She's worn a nightgown. Little Dawson's Creek right here climbing up through the window. Although Kelly insist that she kind of is door obstruction. Her dad is there, such like a phantom in this movie, like. I thought I heard screaming I would investigate that way more if I were a father, he said I didn't hear screaming, OK?

[00:23:13]

He's so deadpan, I was screaming, did we just deem him the worst actor in this movie? He gets like five lines. I thought I heard screaming for him. Is that a Creed poster? Oh, I didn't see. Above her bed, I always think that this was like Billy, just him and Stu just killed Casey and he is all horned up. So he's coming over to his girlfriend. Oh, yeah. I think he. What's his name?

[00:23:49]

Kate. Billy. Billy. I think Billy is the one who killed Casey. Yeah. I see I don't know, I kind of like that we don't know. I like to debate that you at home, you let us know who you think. I do love the music. Yeah, the the song choice here, Don't Fear the Reaper by Gus Black is great. I think that this song is just a in-your-face foreshadowing because it's called Don't Fear the Reaper.

[00:24:29]

And he's trying in Billy's trade, is trying to seduce Sydney here. And the song kind of makes parallels like Romeo and Juliet. So it's to me this is just like Wes Craven be like, Hey, yeah, it's Billy. Don't fear the Reaper.

[00:24:56]

Just watching a sex scene with the homies versus a screen that is like famous for like because these are all like rated R horror movies, there's no nudity in these movies, which I'm disappointed. No, no, no. I seriously, I'm totally fine with that. I actually don't like, you know, hot take. I actually don't like nudity in my movies. But that's that's a whole nother discussion, but. Because I was going to say if this was a lesser movie, they would definitely just like have some nudity right here when she flashes.

[00:25:39]

Yeah, yeah. The little PG 13 flash. I was only half serious. I know, but to say that. Screwtape, would you settle for Kevin Williamson, his writing is just hysterical. Billy said, Oh, I wonder if he's like drawing from real life experience. Do you think Kevin Williamson is like, yeah, but this has happened to me. Like, all my girlfriends only gave me the PG 13 relationship in high school.

[00:26:28]

I love this screenshot. We start at the top of the school and we go all the way down onto ground level, I think we like we catch up with Sydney, her friends here. So it is a love that was created see, we started at the top of the school and now we're on the sidewalk and like a single shot of it. That's hard to do, honestly, is like getting it all to kind of sync up the right way.

[00:26:58]

I used to do a lot of camera work and that's tough to pull off. I believe it. I love our story story. I love how much that Courteney Cox sticks out, she's literally like highlighter, yellow dress. Oh, what school be open this day? Let's be honest, like what? It's no, there's no way. I don't think so. She doesn't anymore. Sydney, look at this guy with a quarter of her shoulder. So does that for the guy with the blue sweater, his shoulders right by Tatum, like, how should I dress?

[00:27:42]

Dress like you're in high school, OK? He's trying to get as much screen time as he could. Oh, let me tie my shoe. I love how like I kind of appreciate how I don't know how to say this without sounding weird, but they kind of made Sydney seem kind of homey, like she's she's not, like, dress super scandalous or anything, especially like compared to Tatum later on, she's an Tatums in a more scandalous shirt later on.

[00:28:16]

But yeah, I kind of like how they do that. Really signifies she's the final girl. Henry Winkler, oh, right, a David Arquette. Didn't. Didn't Courtney Cox marry him? Yeah, they had they met on this movie and they got married. Oh yeah. He also believe it or not, I was listening to a podcast today. David Arquette also used to date Jennifer Love Hewitt. I don't know I don't know what what women see in him, but good for him.

[00:29:00]

He loves his 90s stars. Did I tell you my high school did not let us roam around at all, but to say that this was actually shot at a community college because a high school originally agreed, but then they said no, because they thought they don't want to be associated with a violent movie. It still just tells them what happened. He tells a gruesome facts that only the killer would know. I love it. Mm hmm. Jamie Kennedy.

[00:29:43]

So, hey, shut up. I love this back and forth. Was he, though? They're so irreverent. Outdated. What do you think you worked at a Hollywood video or blockbuster blockbuster, for sure? Mm hmm. I don't know why they're harp harping so much on it takes a man to murder someone.

[00:30:37]

These were just, you know, the person murdered was just your friend, so why I love how these kids are so in tune with pop culture, they're just making all these little references.

[00:30:48]

Yeah. See you see. Did you see that little tongue stick out thing stewarded? No, no, no, never mind, I was gonna say it looks like the ghost face mask whenever he does stick out his tongue. He does it later on, probably intentional. I always forget that this seemed like the whole Sydney back at her house by herself with her dad out of town seen happens this soon in the movie. I don't know why, but whenever I think about it, I always feel like it happens way later on.

[00:31:26]

Mm hmm. She's got a nice house. I was just about to say that view. Look at that deck. My God, it's amazing. It's just her dad. Well, I guess it used to be a bigger family when they have so many tables, looks like a restaurant, kind of like a vineyard or something, man, could you imagine having, like, mimosas out there Sunday morning? Oh, man, that's the time I would be out there every single day, mimosa before school, every drag up.

[00:32:02]

Does that count? Oh, yes, it does. I was thinking more along the lines of it's an obstacle, but. OK, well, you didn't state that. OK, so you hear how the music got all creepy right there. Mm hmm. OK, well, there's another part where she walks by that door. You don't hear that phone, that old school. Damn, it's got me. While it's trying to make a point, that old TV, Ufuk and TV.

[00:32:34]

Anyway, it doesn't matter, I'll get back to my point later. So that external oven does not count because that is absolutely a thing in New England. I love that Courteney Cox is in this movie. Mm hmm. You know, I think she kind of steals the show, I think she does a great job. No, I think she does a great job. I definitely think she steals the show. She's so distracting for me. I don't know.

[00:33:05]

She necessarily steals it. OK, watch those. You hear it creak in the closet. I heard a. Yep, and then, yeah, we'll see in a few minutes, Ghostface jumps out of there. That's something I never caught until sometime after you and I recorded. I'm just going to go ahead and take a nap. It's an old school clock that. No, shut up. That's its decoration, OK. We'll pass that one. Put in my drawing the line, the fucking sand on the clock.

[00:33:43]

I love that we're both really respectful of, like, the old phone. Like we're not just really harping on it. Yeah, I respect that. I be out watching that sunset, look at that, you know, these people are so spoiled. Oh, I see it every day.

[00:34:00]

Mm hmm. I wonder Ghostface was in the closet going, oh, man, I wish I could watch that sunset right now. I think. I am honored to be your number two am right there, you can see his penis. I got them kicks oh, how much how much do you think a deal is paid for that? A lot. I don't know. Oh. Phone ringing. I love how she's trying to be all polite. Mm hmm.

[00:35:07]

Horror movie, I don't count that as a movie reference just because. Holiday globe. I was just thinking that a big fan of maps. Female listeners, is that a sexy voice? I'm really curious because Cindy just said it was a sex, it was a sexy voice. Foreshadowing and I'm going to get this movie reference for some reason. I love how this guy is like, well, what to do to prove to you I'm not that loser.

[00:35:53]

It's not a video store nerd. The question is, whom am I, what am I holding? I kind of wonder why they want her to go out to the front porch because, like spoiler he's in the closet. I want to do that. I would not do that. Actually, high school, Brugger, would 100 percent do that, but me at the current adult age, I am I would not say.

[00:36:44]

I once heard a noise outside my kitchen at night and I was planning to go out and I was like, let me go to bed. And now I'm too brown for this. I'm too brown for. Oh, my goodness. I would be the first one dead. So it's fine if you and I were in a horror movie together. I'll make sure that won't happen. Thank you, Breker. I love this creepy music. How you go?

[00:37:20]

He sounded he sounded very horny right then I felt like some target was going right there. Oh, I see you. Oh, my God. Up Sidney's mom reference. Oh, take a drink. I love how that's like a little I don't think I've ever, like, caught on to that could be a little hint that Ghostface is the person that killed her mom because he just said your mom didn't want to die. This is great. Jose's fell, take a drink.

[00:37:56]

Oh. So I've heard people complain about this scene that that this kind of diminishes the whole final act of this movie. Well, were they like what was their whole idea? I think that they still planned on killing her here and still killing people at the party and framing her dad for it. I think that that this would not have ruined it. Locked door and obstructed as two drinks. And the music and the sound effects are here, I love it, it sounds it sounds like wrestling the fuck out.

[00:38:42]

It sounds like an older movie than something from 96. And I like that, like, gives texture to it, like that old ass keyboard. Can you. I am nine one one.

[00:38:58]

Do you remember A.I.M.? Oh, my. Mr. Ross. Mr. Roboto. Did you ever do that? No, I didn't do Raboteau. He was like an early version of A.I. and you could like have a conversation. Oh, I remember that. Yeah. Yeah. Dun dun dun today, oh, outdated electronic, that's a super old cell phone. Yeah, it's like a nuclear, uh, that that's this one at work today.

[00:39:32]

Just because everybody has cell phones, I think that's like the only thing they like besides, like, the clothing and whatnot that holds this movie in the 90s.

[00:39:41]

Instead of worry, she'd be concerned for him like, oh my God, you dropped your phone. Yeah. Because like, yeah, I totally forgot the point I was about to make because. Yeah. I love this Dewey trying to be an officer here. I got him, Sheriff Billy Loomis is also a nod to Halloween, which I know you don't know that night, but taking a drink do not.

[00:40:16]

Lumis is an odd second.

[00:40:23]

He does really great. Sidney yells right there. So, yeah. So this is what people want. They want to hear us just repeat the movie.

[00:40:38]

Is there an echo in here? Does that old school, Volkswagen Beetle, count? I mean, no, but I'll drink. I feel like that's a nod to Ted Bundy, so. Sure. Oh. You know, a tricky role that would have been good as every time somebody says Sydney, because we just got like a dozen cities in the past minute.

[00:41:02]

Oh yeah. Carl Weathers fun fact about a Volkswagen Beetles, I visited that factory in Wolfsburg, Germany. Oh, we're going to make them. Yeah, that's a fun fact about beetles that you have visited. No, not if I talk about you. It was more of a humble brag, I think. I love how she tears down Kenny here. Oh, damn. You just see his face just frown that. That's good faith acting. And he just wished the cameras stayed on him for like a like a just a second longer just to be like so I'm going to start drinking for every product placement.

[00:41:59]

So we saw Adidas. We just see Dunkin Donuts sitting under his desk, OK? They paid for that. The least I can do is drink, right? Cast a thin mustache. I mean, I can't, like, say anything because I have a thin mustache, but it just kind of, you know, I think a cops, you know, they have, like, that fake mustache. I guess that's the thing about Dewey. He's just the unpaid deputy or whatever.

[00:42:26]

Mm hmm. So he does even have, like, a real cop mustache. I don't know why that cracks me up. Thanks, Hank, we're on it. Thank you, Captain. Obvious piece of shit. What did I get horny? Kind of sounded like Billy Bob Thornton just then. I didn't kill anybody. You're right. I mean, how much gel does he have in his hair or like palm? Whatever it is he's using? The hair is crispy.

[00:43:20]

Yeah, that cactus back there looks kind of phallic. I would if that was a little intentional. There's no first of hilarious, like subliminal penis messaging you just picked up.

[00:43:37]

And there's no way they would have put Sidney and Billy that close to each other, like with their eyes shot. Right. I shot while they could see each other. I want to take this time to say I love the names that Kevin Williamson came up for these characters, they're so memorable, like Gale Weathers as the news anchor. That's that's awesome. Sidney Prescott. It's just great names. I love it, Dewey. Father death, that was that was like a real costume, like I said in our episode, they didn't invent this costume for the movie.

[00:44:29]

It was just something that was already sold in stores. These kids today. She did like a weird like she like weird motion without asking that, yeah, are they brother and sister? Yes. OK. Wear this badge, you treat me like a regular. A lot of trophies in this place. Oh, you know, you got like the beer bowling leagues, the beer softball leagues, the beer, dodgeball leagues and all these guys are part of.

[00:45:11]

Now, I'm starting to think that cactus was intentional because it's like more of like an adrenaline, toxic masculinity kind of environment.

[00:45:19]

And they were kind of like, oh, that's a good point. Yeah. And they were kind of talked about earlier how it takes a man to kill someone. Yeah, interesting. And we do see how strong of a character Cindy Prescott is. And Tatum Tatum is also a strong character as well.

[00:45:38]

And Gail, I mean, Gail getting in the mix, man, there are like no real weak women. I mean, Drew Barrymore, she was she was a weak like you can't I don't think she was weak. So this is a movie about feminism. Maybe there's definitely no sick punch that always gets me in that mean mug. Neve Campbell is like a snarl. I love this little. Super bitch, I love that. Fun fact, this house we're in, so this is Tatums House.

[00:46:19]

This was the house that they found the ghost face mask and decided to make that make that their costume when they were doing location scouting. This was the house that they found it in. Oh, that's cool. Yeah. Phones are ringing in the background. David. What could it have sounded like, the creepy ghost face is sitting there.

[00:46:51]

Yes, sure. Let me go get her. Yeah, exactly. She hasn't gone through anything traumatic tonight. No, I'm not going to ask who it is. Oh, my God. That's none of my business. Their city, again, that would have been a good drinking rule every time they say Sydney. Again, talking about cotton weary, mm. I love how they're trying to make you think it could be dewy here, because as soon as the guy hung up, that's where that's when Dewey appeared.

[00:47:37]

I'm sorry, I'm calling the movie ahead of time. I'm sorry, folks, I just close my eyes and watch this movie. I also love this song. Music's really funky. Bum, bum, bum, bum. If you're playing by the morning Prescott rule, drink right there, savagely raped on TV, TV, Wolski microwave.

[00:48:04]

Old school still shots. OK, corn chicks drink for that. I almost need a third beer. I'm getting close. Big milk paid for that one big, big move. OK, I'm going to hear, OK, other crane shot, this is awesome and also pay attention to what Sydney's wearing, to what Tatums wearing. It's like it's such a stark difference. As in late Tatums, like a little more scandalous in cities like this, pure innocent, she's the final girl kind of thing, more modest, covered up.

[00:49:00]

Oh, yeah. Tatums got like tight belly shown. It was blows my mind because, like, I went to a Catholic high school. And if anybody showed up like that, like just automatic excommunication, I guess I almost sent home because I wore shorts one day I had to change out of my sleeveless shirt and I had just gotten out of gym and I didn't have time to change. I know I did not go to a Catholic school. That's a good exchange, so that's my mother.

[00:49:50]

She's so irreverent, everyone is so everyone's so irreverent about life and death in this movie. What does it mean, just like kind of like not respectful. OK, OK, cool, you've said it like three times already and I just stayed quiet. So pretty sure somebody is listening right now. That's not good. That's not a great way to explain it.

[00:50:23]

Even if he is innocent, why the fuck would Gale Weathers force this poor 18, 17 year old to, like, defend her deceased mother? Like this is kind of messed up. Mm hmm. Super irreverent. That's the word of the day. Oh, God, I love that line delivery. Sorry, your mangled your face, what I should have used then are quotes for that episode. Although counties, I was ready this time, I'm not a fat tabloid.

[00:51:22]

He has like eight lines of dialogue, this movie, maybe less if the cameraman Yeah, Kenny. I love how OK, so see how Stu is looking himself in the mirror. Mm hmm. There's a theory that he's looking to see. He does have a welter bruise from when Cindy hit him the night before when Ghostface attacked her.

[00:51:55]

So irreverent. OK. OK, is that joke old now? OK, it's dead. It is done. Billy says some douche bag shit right here. Did you the. Someone climbing in a window and him not knowing, yeah, that made him scare away. Get squared away. God, he is so obsessed with getting in her pants is weird. Sidney's mom. Yeah. Who says that exactly? Hairstyles coming back, I feel it, it's such like a hockey player thing, I don't know.

[00:53:29]

Yeah. Ruman Yosi type of thing. Well, more like Mike Fisher Remedios the kind of like Mike Fisher. I forgot who it was. I was just spitball. And people don't know who we're talking about, but that's OK. The Nashville Predators, Carrie Underwood's husband. There we go. Yeah, people want to know that. Mm hmm. He's such a dick. Are there any, like, redeeming I guess, DeWees the only, like, redeeming male character in this, I guess.

[00:54:03]

I love how the two. The two guys here playing ghost faces, there's like foreshadowing that there's two guys actually being Ghostface could catch. It's not fair. This the first time I watched this movie, this definitely made me think for two seconds that the principal was I killer. Yeah, probably two seconds. I'm trying to read what's on the state's calendar and see when he has meetings and whatnot. Mm hmm. I love that shit meetings. Dana's fast.

[00:54:48]

It's an old school. That's a slam. Mm hmm. They could have said anything, they're easy, slutty or fast. Do we know Woodsboro is Mascotte? I don't think we do. I just I was wondering because that cheerleader came out with a big W I noticed for Woodsboro about was like what or what was Baros mascot would be. Though they're talking about her mom drink. Fun fact about this scene, Kevin Williamson, the writer of this movie, he directed this bathroom scene.

[00:55:44]

What the fuck is she even talking about? I wonder if Ricki Lake paid for that namedrop, probably not to that. Look at these old soap dispensers that look like hot air balloons. Hey, man, some schools still have those degrees out. There's older parts of my campus right now where I'm in grad school. There's older parts of the campus. Their bathrooms look just like this, minus the D'Anna is fast graffiti. But I'm. So there's something I want to pay attention to see if you actually see a knife in Ghostface hand here in a second when he does appear, because I read a theory that like this actually isn't billiards do is just a prank.

[00:56:39]

And one of the points they point out, like he's not holding a knife here. I want to see if we actually can see if he's holding a knife or not. Because I hate to think it is Bélier, Stu. As a dirty floor, not put my hands on the. It was 1996 when you have to worry about. So hold on. Nope, no knife, I don't see a knife. Do you see a knife? No. So maybe it was a prank.

[00:57:26]

I don't know. Even if it was a prank, they still just like hung out in the bathroom until Sidney was there for shits and giggles, I guess in high school that's better than going to algebra. Do you think they were already dating at this point, like in real life? I don't know. Leticia's energy. I love it, too. I love the little light he gives when he goes up the stairs. So flirting. She's wearing kind of like a very standout color, like a very vibrant red icemaker stick out from the rest of the people.

[00:58:32]

Boys, do boyish good looks make you get accepted as a police officer? I love that the principal's one of the first people to know that, yeah, right. He's already made the announcement for the city citywide news. The police are finding out what he's like. This is my time to shine. The first time I saw this, I definitely thought Sidney's dad, like, was like I was really leaning to Sydney's dad as the killer. It's funny you say that because I literally forgot about the guy at this point in the movie.

[00:59:25]

Here's a great line. Twenty four for a whole year. That's great. But anyways, I was listening to our old episode, and I remember you said that you felt like the accusation of her dad being the killer felt like it came out of nowhere for you. Yeah, it was. Complete left field. I love Stu, Matthew Lillard is just amazing in this movie. He is an underrated, underrated actor, for she really is like he should have been in more stuff.

[01:00:06]

He's hilarious. Didn't he want to come back for, like, the sequel that he actually is in the sequel four Scream two said he plays a background character like BLENKIN, you know, like a later one. I think there's like a more recent one supposed to come out. Oh. I'm not sure. Yes, chicks are coming to my party. Oh, he does a little Fonzie reference, I think, when he gets like it's come out or something.

[01:00:41]

I can't wait to see that. Ah, he looks at himself in the mirror. Hello. I see this I don't because I don't know where it goes face hides in between the Knox. And I I think that his kill is purely just to add to the body count. Mm hmm. And that Stu just wants to kill someone because I think Stu is just like bloodthirsty. That's my whole theory. Yeah. So many old computers in that room.

[01:01:24]

Oh, Freddy Krueger, and that's Wes Craven. His name Fred. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I don't know if you know this, but Wes Craven, I created Freddy Krueger. Oh, shit. That old fish take me to the river, my dad had one of those. Does he have the sea or the key to the city in the background? I think so. See, leather jacket. Look, look, look back. He didn't do it, I made it up, I guess I don't know this combs happens, man.

[01:02:05]

I must have made it up. Hembree. Gosh, that face. This is the death that I forget about. This is like the most forgettable death for me while we're going through my head, like to kill count in this movie, I always forget the principal's part of it. It seems so unnecessary, it does. Why is your body talking so much shit about Sidney's mom, like it's kind of fucked up, isn't it? Mm hmm. It's a drink, by the way, Tim.

[01:03:16]

Who says this? No, you don't. I wouldn't be like this to you, Nate, if you went through something like this. Thank you, brother. I was going to say Zenny reminds me of like a someone who finds herself in college, you know what I mean? Oh, interesting.

[01:03:49]

I can see that totally. Mm hmm. Frankenstein, Frankenstein, 1931, love it, old TV. This is one of my favorite scenes of the movie, this whole video store. Mm hmm. I used to love going to a video store right away every Friday after school. Yeah, yeah. I mean, my my mom would tell me, my sister, we could only do like one movie. So my sister always at the compromise.

[01:04:27]

Mm hmm. I love this guy. Don't you miss video stores? I do. I miss talking to, like, the clerks. I worked there just just just going like, hey, what do you recommend going down the aisles with them? I have so much fun. Matthew Lillard kills this. It's got that old school Walkman. It's amazing. I love how he's I take this as like they're trying to poke the brains out like other of these people in trying to see, like, are they even on to us kind of thing.

[01:05:17]

So something I just noticed was there was a woman in the background and I love when they get the extras involved, like they're actually kind of like in tune with what's going on on the scene. Yeah, because that woman in the background was just like what she like looked up. She like shook her head. She's like, these kids are fucked up. That's a good catch. I think it's oh, they're trying to play out her dad. Yeah.

[01:05:56]

You said to chill. Very simple for me, because I like both love and hate Randy. This is such a great exchange. I kind of take this as like these are things we thought of when we were planning this, we thought about framing you in, like, saying these things.

[01:06:31]

Mm hmm. Billy definitely bought like the five pack of white shirts I was about to say, I just realized he's been wearing just a plain white t shirt for like half of this. Same song we heard earlier, it's a good song. I bet you Fruit of the Loom sponsored that. That was before the who was who is it? That was it. Michael Jordan. That's in those commercials. Hayne's. Yeah, he's. Oh, that's Heyns, OK.

[01:07:13]

On the TV screen, it's a good song, closed for curfew. Back when people pay attention to stuff like that, stay home, not pay your bills here. That's old dam out of pain, bro. I like that Dewey doesn't have like a like like like a sedan cop car. He has a jeep. I like that. I think it's fun. Mm hmm. And it's also great. Like he's just a park ranger. Is it because you drove the same car?

[01:07:52]

I did have a GPS. Yeah. GPS rule. I miss my jeep every day. All right. Lots of lots of product placement, lots. Yeah, we're in the grocery store. Look at all these old logos.

[01:08:21]

Mm hmm. Is that there's a T-shirt for the grocery store. Ah, I guess that's one for the beer. That's right there. But weird. I don't think I've ever seen T-shirts in a grocery store like that.

[01:08:32]

Mm. Oh, Ghostface had to pick up some things on the way home as well. I've got to get my kids snacks, weirdo, you did is having an ice cream cone. They're just like pushing so hard how he's just not a man. They gave him a piece of shit mustache. He's eating an ice cream cone. His sister belittles him in front of other deputies. He's eating an ice cream cone, his share of his smoking a cigarette, just that just a position between them, too.

[01:09:15]

Oh, it's great fucking love shit like this. That's a new cigarette. It's lit just a little bit more than it was before. I love how they're trying to make you think that the sheriff, because of that boot shot right there, that he was the guy in the bathroom, didn't think of that. So I thought I was just so lost on who it could have been. So I thought there's no way it was billions to like, is this too obvious?

[01:09:58]

I'm pretty proud of myself for pretty much honing in on shaggy stew. I'm to make a quick beer run. OK. This guy's got a tucked in shirt, khakis going to a house party. Nothing like getting dropped off to a party in a cop car. Uh. What did I miss? I'm just kidding. You missed a bunch of kids, way overdressed for a high school party. I didn't go to high school parties, to be honest.

[01:11:31]

I was lame to go into like three, two or three. Yeah, about the same it loose. I'm just letting these kids under drink or underage drink. On a scale of one to 10, how buzzed are you right now? I'm just curious. I got a nice buzz going. We we hit it hard. Yeah, tore up and for like 45 minutes it felt like. But now I think the the drinking rules aren't really kicking in as much right now.

[01:12:05]

Yeah.

[01:12:05]

It seems that like they really happen pretty frequently in the beginning. In the end in the middle. Kind of gives you a little breathing room. Yeah. Now if is if we added in that Sydney every time they say Sydney, I think we have been a little bit over to over the top. Yeah. I think if you just really drink for each outdated technology then I'd be like probably over the top. But I kind of like once I saw it, I just kind of overlook it.

[01:12:36]

Listen, here at home, how are you doing? I love that he's wearing a robe at his own party. Very Hugh Hefner, right? Yeah, there's a cop. People are just so chill with it. I'm going to have a good time with it as he's twenty five at a high school party. We're always 17, 18. Right. I love how you brag about this. She's with me. Did you just see Stu? He just checked out Gail Weathers.

[01:13:13]

He's doing it right now. Mm hmm. Do you think that is the thing that was kind of a funny joke with this girl said I watch your show religiously like they watch friends, probably love it. Dewey would be a good Halloween costume, I think, get that that, like, cop jacket with, like furry collar and like like a piece of shit mustache, which I can grow a piece of shit mustache. So at least you can grow a beard.

[01:13:55]

I can grow a nice mustache, but that's about it. You do have a good mustache. Thank you. Did you guys have a like a garage fridge? Yes. OK, I don't think that's a Puerto Rican thing. Yeah, we did. And that's where we kept our beer. It was in the garage fridge. This is very related. Not the eggs, though. That's weird. To keep eggs in the garage beer or the garage fridge.

[01:14:22]

Yeah, I used to go to my friend's houses all the time. They all had beer, water, and then like they had like the separate giant freezer of ice cream and like old meat. I am shocked that we don't see a locked door and this one goes faits. Did it. Damn it, he got us.

[01:14:43]

I am shocked that we don't see a lacrosse stick in this garage because I can see Stu being a lacrosse player, just kind of being like WASPy white family. Just roll the shit out of there kills me because I like Tatum, I want her to be in a sequel. So question Bélier, Stu. So, Bill, you're still here? I think it's I think it's Billy, OK, Stu's, like super involved with the party right now. That's a good point.

[01:15:48]

I just like to think that Stew's is killing off his ex-girlfriends. Did they break up? Well, not yet, but I would take this as breaking up if it worked. But, I mean, logistically, it just makes more sense. Oh, because he's getting hit and I won't take that drink, drink, drink.

[01:16:11]

See, Tatum is a strong character that is dogged or. They said that she could that the actress Rose McGowan, she could actually fit through that door. She looks like she can. She's so teeny tiny, I can't remember. I, I think Myth Busters may have tested this to see if the garage door could lift a human like this. I can't remember, but I feel like I watched an episode like that. This was like the most blatant fake dead body.

[01:16:49]

There was blatant fake dead body. It's like jiggling. I love how you just slinks back. Nobody hurt. That always makes me laugh. Nobody here but us chickens, she said. I guess it makes sense. It is Billy, because there he just popped back up and he just kind of did like that eyebrow thing like. Yep, got it done. Again, he's probably all horny from killing someone, so I guess this all tracks with your theory that that was Billy.

[01:17:30]

This guy's got a good voice, acting voice, particularly Billy Billy. Yeah, I mean, this is a perfect villain. Yeah. Like an evil cat in Kansas, dogs like the movie Cats versus Dogs, he'd be like the evil cat. I guess if was. This is something that bugs me right here. He doesn't check on them. Is this outdated technology? Oh, fuck. People make a lot of money off this type of thing these days.

[01:18:20]

It cameras. Oh, jeez, you made a face like I have no idea what you're talking about was dark.

[01:18:31]

Poor joke. I love how he's just walking around like so we're going to do. Already blew all my good lines at the beginning of the movie. Hey, look at these mismatching little bedside tables, looks my looks like my room. I'm not sure yet. I've never noticed that. That isn't one hundred percent in what my room looks like. Yeah. Mine is a mini fridge on one side and then an actual like bedside drawer on the other. I've got like those like starlight Tupperware drawers that look in things.

[01:19:09]

Oh yeah. And there are two different colors on each side. Amazing. I'm an adult. Also have an adult job. I just don't care. Oh, I guess my girlfriend cares. Yeah. My girlfriend has the side without the mini fridge because she just couldn't do that. Sidney's mom talking about it during Eitam. Spoilers, Dan, I haven't seen that movie. It's all the movie. It's weird that he's like trying to be a director, like direct his own horror movie because like me, like later on, I like the climax of this movie.

[01:20:23]

We kind of see that he is a movie nerd a little bit. Mm hmm. But I kind of wish they put more seats, like more breadcrumbs about that. Like, I would like to see like some debate between him and Randy, because Randy is kind of the movie nerd character that I would like to see some sort of, I don't know, like a pissing contest between them too. And who knows the most trivia. Yeah, it is kind of like a whole, um, I guess, acknowledgement of how like psychologically he's just not all there, like the narcissism that he's going through and like he thinks it's all about himself and he thinks like it's a movie.

[01:21:07]

Oh, it's just like it's just like psychotic, you know what I mean? Honor, how much of it comes into that he wishes that he was able to keep his mom around because his his main motivation is that Cindy's mom slept with his dad and that's what broke up the family. Mm hmm. Hope you didn't hope you've seen this movie before, because that was a huge spoiler, Rucker. If this is your first time watching the movie, why are you doing it this way?

[01:21:41]

But, yeah, that's a no props to you. And by the way, they're just now watching Halloween up. That's that's what I feel personally attacked by that guy, that extra.

[01:21:59]

How can you watch that shit over and over top left of the screen, old school, like, oh my God, you piece of shit guy drinking.

[01:22:14]

Also, I'm going to count them discussing Halloween as they watch Halloween as a movie reference. Mm hmm. Do these old voices count as does God track? Fun fact, this scene right here where Randi is detailing the rules of a horror movie, this was the scene that they had him audition for. Was this like one of Jamie Kennedy's first movies? I don't know that for a fact, but I've watched the what's it called the rehearsal on that rehearsal, the audition tape of him doing this.

[01:22:58]

And he was just like Jamie Kennedy took it up so much. He was like, oh, yeah, oh, I love that. But he was just kind of like doing like voices and stuff like that. He was being too goofy, funny with it. I like this a lot better. Mm hmm. Sorry. My sister and I used to warrier my sister and I used to watch his TV show and we were obsessed with Malibu's Most Wanted.

[01:23:23]

That's a hilarious movie. That's not romantic, like you want to come. There's a there's a murderer on the loose. You want to come with me to investigate it is because it's like it's almost like Kevin Williamson saying. It's like it's not just serial killers that get off on this shit. It's everybody gets off on this shit.

[01:23:50]

Mm hmm. If this was a real high school party, they'd be using that volleyball court out front saying absolutely. As I say, with a mouthful of pretzels. Oh, oh, Stewie doesn't know, you know, this is like an actual house you could go visit. Oh, yeah. Mm hmm. You know, what I hate about myself is that I'm going to look up what time of the year this movie was out, like this movie was set in.

[01:24:37]

And I'm going to look at what constellation I could be. Oh, do that. And this is just. I love that there's creepy music playing while they're kind of, you know, making out. Mm hmm. And they're the kind of Kevin, I think that this is just like Kevin Williamson being like, God, I wish I made Halloween male gaze theory.

[01:25:07]

Actually, I'm going to counter that because this was a lesser movie. They would have shown the nudity their. Well, let's talk about the guys all just kind of like watching it. Got you. Countered Forcier Brooker.

[01:25:29]

I love it that the Halloween score is just playing over this movie Atomizing. Come to the eyes, these drunk guys is that there's always those people that stay way too long at the party. Absolutely. Oh, my God. Doritos, old school, oh, that's cool, Clarkes. Oh, that's fine. Oh, that's a gross site. I discover this movie is so good. I love this. It's so fun seeing like the old packaging for things that we still see today, like those Tostitos.

[01:26:17]

Yeah, I love it. I love how these high schoolers are like, yeah, I want to go see that dead body, my principal hung up. Oh my God. Do you think you lied about there being a car out here and it was just by pure coincidence that there was one absolutely trying to flirt with Gale Weathers? Total flirt move. These Phuket high schoolers did. Freeze the card. She's like, get off me. Yeah. Or not.

[01:27:22]

I stand corrected and he lands the kiss. On duty, what a fucking loser. God damn it. For the record, I love Dewey, especially in the sequels. He's like the characteristics of the, to be precise, Sidney. But God. You hear that that was such a real oh, damn it, like, I didn't mean to actually find evidence. Again, this was all make me think it was her dad. Maybe I'm just stupid, I don't know why it is that her dad, that was her dad's car.

[01:28:16]

Oh, I was like, who the fuck is Neil Prescott, Prescott's dad?

[01:28:24]

But, God, you're here. I have. Over my head. See, this confuses me a little bit. Because it's like, did he make the call or this do make the call for him? Because it could be either one. Because if he was in jail and he made that call, that would imply he had the voice changer thing with him. Mm hmm. And I think that the police would have taken that away from him, right?

[01:29:00]

Uh, not yet. Really. Yeah. They take it one to you before you go to jail.

[01:29:04]

Not that I know that was suspicious. I mean, he was like in custody.

[01:29:13]

Like he was arrested. They read him his Miranda rights. Mm hmm. I think that this is just a goof. And Kevin Williamson. That or like Sydney, making a false claim that is just wrong and that's on purpose. Not look at me like that, she said, right, maybe start breaking up my dead mom and sex all the time. Jesus. Oh, God. I'm going to drink for this just cause I repeat, Billy. And the first time I watched this, I was definitely like, oh, shit, it was it Billy locked me to a locked door to drink, dammit.

[01:30:16]

There's a lot coming up here, I think a lot of stairs in this house. It's a nice house, man. All these people. Oh, he just fell to the ground to a drink, surfboard looked obstructed. Or I think the surfboard confirms that this is in California, that in there pretty much in wine country. OK, Brooker, I get it. It's not New England that everyone's from Boston.

[01:30:50]

I'm going to kill you. Wicked hard. Wicked hot. That's a good job scare, I think that got me the first time I watched this. Oh, God. Oh, shit, that would hurt like a motherfucker.

[01:31:14]

And there's like chairs and consoles and all sorts of shit right there that would have fucked up. That would have fucked up her back. Comes the mental damage, yeah, you don't come back from that. See, if I were a serial killer, I would have hid that body. Right in our episode of Scream, you really mentioned you like this scene. OK, because you can see the person behind him that he's saying, Jamie, look out, and his name is actually Jamie.

[01:31:57]

Oh, yeah.

[01:32:00]

It's so it's very clever. I like that it's like so serendipitous that they got a guy named Jamie Kennedy to play this role. I love it. And I don't think I actually noticed it until you brought it up in that episode.

[01:32:20]

So while we're at it, it's kind of like on this scene, like the whole, like stew mocker house, apparently the shooting of this like this whole scene, like the whole like this whole like fourth or third act of this movie, last act, whatever. It's 21 days. And they spent 60 days total shooting this movie. So that's like a third of this movie. It was spent on this house and. So going back to the whole like, would we die at this point type of situation?

[01:32:53]

Yeah, I honestly feel like I would have lived the same. I feel like I want to be this stupid. Oh, poor Kenny. I actually like Kenny. I know we don't get too much of him likable. He is actually sympathetic because we. Oh, I guess he's just like sympathetic. See, OK, Ghostface here is a dumb ass because I just felt like if I were Ghostface I would have just backtracked and gotten her, I don't know, whatever.

[01:33:22]

Maybe I'm just a freak for thinking that, but I would have kept her trapped in the car. Yeah. Not Chase after her, you know what I mean? Is it weird that we're talking about how we would kill people here? But I guess this is why I don't watch fucking horror movies. I guess I'll see. I feel like if I were at this party, I would have, like, just ran like like you got to come to me like I'm just running down this road, like, uh.

[01:33:58]

You think he would have told her to lock herself in his jeep? Mm hmm. All of that Halloween is still just playing in the background. I'm so excited for you to see the movie, by the way. I am not excited to see you. Can I? I feel like it's going to be a big moment in my life. Big milestone. I'm really excited because I'm treating it like an experiment to see what somebody has never seen it, how they react to them.

[01:34:26]

Excited. And it just ties up so well with him walking through the house because like the music of Halloween, it's suspenseful and kind of like very ominous or like, you know, there's something around the corner as he is going through the house. It's just great. I love it. Great job, Wes Craven, the late. Great. Had she not see him, he literally like a rolled outside the door, isn't he on top of the car right now?

[01:35:00]

I don't know, I think he's on top of the car, how the fuck did he get up there? I think that that of because, you know, I'm just so invested in this movie. I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos and somebody has speculated that both Billy and Stewie put some, but put it on top of the van. Sorry I just left, but I just love that she just beats the shit out of Randy right there for no reason.

[01:35:25]

I mean, it's not for no reason, but this is great. Mm hmm. This is such a good touch because this is like real visceral gross. I don't know why, but this makes me oh, Keddie, so I'm sorry, so her wiping off blood with the windshield wipers, I don't know why, but it just makes me think of, like, blood coming out of, like a showerhead. I don't know why it does that, but it just makes me think of like that equality of grossness and just being that unsettling.

[01:36:08]

OK, maybe I'm right here, so I've done this before, you've done it. I like hydroplane on the interstate and like, rolled into a tree like that. Uji, I didn't die. Maybe I wouldn't die in speed as happened to my girlfriend before she's hydroplaned on the interstate before the Chicago totaled. She's OK. Yeah, well, bonding me and Kat just bonding. Oh. So apparently, Dewey, through the research I've done, Dewey was supposed to die here and it was at the end that they realized that like through a thing like test screenings, that he was a crowd pleaser, like people really liked the character Dewey.

[01:36:51]

So they decided to keep him at the end. Hmm. That's interesting.

[01:36:56]

I also like to point out that we just saw for a fact that that Pat that opened her mind, she's able to say that window was closed, but she just drink rolled up window manually. So, look, there's a fine. I'll accept it. I apologize if you heard that golpe a lot is a little late game. He plays here. It's like when you're playing hide and seek and you got a good spot, you got yourself a little bit.

[01:37:42]

Yeah, I feel like this is what the killer is going through. Yeah. Peekaboo, I remember the first time I watched that this scene with the whole scene stressed to me the fuck out.

[01:38:09]

Sydnor, Yeah, fuck, I'd shoot his ass, I'd shoot both of them if you shoot me, you monster, don't walk up to me like that pop up do.

[01:38:23]

The first time I watch this movie, I was like, I don't know who the fuck goes faces. See, I thought it was Steve because this is the first time we've seen him in like 30 minutes. That's a great point. And the first time I watched this, I wasn't thinking rationally, but I do love this choice. She makes fucking upo. That's such a smart move. Good job on you, Sidney. So, you know, they would have both been dead, I would have taken it up in court.

[01:38:57]

It was a crime of passion. Two, that's got to hurt because I've done it. Did you ever do that when you were a kid? Like, go down the stairs in a in a sleeping bag? Uh, no. I used to roll down on my stomach, and I think we had a sleeping bag all the time and it still hurt. We had carpeted stairs. So it kind of it was we didn't. Give me the gun on the man, fuck you, Billy.

[01:39:33]

First of all, I would not let him unlock the door freshly stabbed. I have the whole line movie reference from Psycho. So am I. Very limited, free time. I've kind of started a, like, fan fiction, like a Scream sequel. I know that sounds super lame, but no, I have like, this theory that in like this, Randy was in on it and that's why Billy didn't shoot to kill right there. He only shot in the shoulder.

[01:40:14]

Damn. We got to read that. Me, the face. No, no, no, no, no, no. This is like more work on it. I'll be happy to put that out, but I just feel super lame saying that now. You don't think we used to write fan fiction Star Wars? Yeah. You're like, shut up.

[01:40:37]

Oh, God, this is so good. Make sure to see the way he says that I know you haven't seen I know or I know you haven't seen a Nightmare on Elm Street, but that to me sounded like something that Freddy Krueger would say to like, fuck, you know, we already play that game. That's, I think in the remake. He actually does say something like that. Mm hmm. The league is at risk. Wes Craven made both of these.

[01:41:07]

Look at how Stu looks at him. Do you think they're gay lovers? Oh, yeah. It was fun. Oliver, you said that where you go with Matthew Lillard is the best actor in this movie.

[01:41:23]

I think besides the Campbell, Neve Campbell is that her name is OK. Movie reference, movie reference. OK, just to sit. Sidney's mom reference David. No, Sharon Stone. I want that sweater that still has that weird, you get a look at it, I'll let you know. Oh, see, see, look at Stu's face, it kind of looks surprised, doesn't it? Yeah, that's what it looks edgy. God is such a God, he's just killing.

[01:42:37]

He's going 100 miles an hour right now. Sugano. The God I fucking love Matthew Lillard. It just scre. God, it's amazing. I'll be right back. Jesus, I just I'm I'm geeking out on fanboy over Matthew Lillard right now. It's hard to he he steals the show in the in this last 30 minutes. So good. And this is the scene I remember. She had a dad. I actually think I said who the fuck is that.

[01:43:22]

And I paused it and I looked up IMDB. Yeah, because, I mean, again, he's such a he's such a forgettable person. Yeah, literally nothing. He's just Joe Schmo. Perfect ending. I love how still takes credit of that, I thought of that. This is great. I think if I was framing somebody, I'd probably make it in a way I didn't have to get impaled. All right. I was listening to Thierry watchbox and they were saying that, you know, if I were them, I would have just hid in the closet, be like, yep, I just hit and survive.

[01:44:24]

Exactly. That's right. Q Did you see the look that Stu just gave you guys? All of them. Coach, I'm sorry, I'm repeating everything, I just love it. The dad's like, what the fuck is happening right now? He's a Jesus.

[01:44:48]

Is this why you were screaming the other day? Yeah. You should have been a dad that day and investigated that shit. You see the spit drooling on Rolin. Yes, correct. He is just killing this. I love it.

[01:45:07]

I said, don't you play the movies? That to me, right there to me. OK, let me know what you think. I think that was like because I feel it was it was fantastic. Anyways, I think that because at the time this came out, there's like all this controversy that the media was saying that like movies and video games are making adolescents more violent in that whole line of movies don't make psychos. They make psychos more creative.

[01:45:40]

That means like Kevin Williamson being like, don't you see how stupid that sounds like? Movies don't make people violent. That's my thought. Anyways, back to scream and I used to play a lot of, like shooter video games and I turned out OK. Yeah, same Grand Theft Auto. I played a lot of that. Yeah. At no point have I wanted to just run somebody over. So I mean, I've wanted to. I did.

[01:46:12]

I had. The impulse is not to though so.

[01:46:20]

We missed it. I love that line, as stupid as she looked it to me, man. Besides the blood stains, stoo sweater, I want one of those I never said that. And I think I said it looked edgy. Oh, it looks like a good like after shower sweater, though, if it wasn't a specific. That's a good line. Guy Matthew Lillibridge kills. I know I'm so geeking out over him, but take a drink.

[01:47:29]

Phone ringing Oh, damn, that's a good point.

[01:47:42]

See, she did what Drew Barrymore did, it is she went ahead and called the police. Mm hmm. Minute maid take a drink to. I think I'm dying here, man. I love this exchange between Stu and Sidney here. It makes me laugh every time. That was ad libbed because Billy wasn't actually supposed to hit him with the phone. That was all just ad libbed.

[01:48:35]

Yeah, he cracks me up. I love how the camera's tracking just in between the hallway instead of just following Billy behind his back.

[01:48:50]

That's great. Oh, this is kind of like a parallel to earlier when they were in her house hiding in her closet. Now she's introduced house, hiding in his closet, dressed up as Ghostface. With a closet scene from the movie oh, overlapping catch. Again, I think Kevin Williamson is just jealous that he didn't get to right Halloween. See, she went through a lot of effort to put the costume on. Yeah. I love the little screamer, and he does.

[01:49:37]

Oh, Jesus. I always forget that he had like a crush on her when he says that. I wonder if that actually happens, like like if somebody gets electrocuted like that or the TV smashed. Either way, that's going to hurt. Yeah, those things were heavy. So I guess like a little like psychometry for Scream three. I know you haven't seen the sequels, Nate, but the original Escola Ruffels sorry, the original script for Scream three head of that stew survived that TV smashing and that he had a cult of people playing Ghostface from him while he was in prison.

[01:50:37]

Oh, that was the original script. If people have watched the show with Kevin Bacon, the following that's written by Kevin Williamson and he just changed his original script for Scream three to be that show.

[01:50:54]

Let's go to Monica. So is Billy dead here like they're dead? Not yet. Hmm. Randy is about to explain. And again, in my like, fan fiction little thing, this is Randy trying to tie off all loose ends that he was connected to this. So he's trying to egg on city to go in and kill him. So that way he can't confess that Randy was in on it. Interesting. I got to read that fanfiction whenever I get time to write it.

[01:52:03]

I would love to. Yeah, I'd love to have you read it. And again, her dad just popped up out of nowhere. And it Dewey survived so that it was like a reshoot, basically, I don't know, it was a ratio. It might have been like a last minute rewrite.

[01:52:24]

Mm. And scream, does this ending well, they just do a little crane shot to the sunset or sunrise, I should say, and how you started.

[01:52:40]

Love it. Yeah. So great, I love this one of these days, I want to go visit that house just cause. Yeah, some great views to be a fun bed and breakfast, right? Yeah, I think you could pay to sleep there overnight. There you go. All right. You need all the product placement. Oh, God. There's a little flash. That's it. I'm going to take a quick break. I'll be right back, ok?

[01:53:15]

OK. All right, man. So how how do you feel about this movie? Because I know that you don't really watch these movies too much, and I know you're not a big slasher fan, but how do you how are you feeling?

[01:53:28]

What what kind of emotions are you going through right now? Hmm. Let me I, I don't know. It was a it was fun to do it to watch the movie with you. I'm still not you're not a big fan. No, I'm still not. But also I just pause the movie because it's like the credits are running. And Billy, do we know his name? Do you know his name? Skeet Ulrich.

[01:53:56]

Like so. And that's where I paused. And I was just I was so distracted so I literally could not piece a thought together. I was just shocked. I was like, what kind of who is fucking parents? Oh, no. I thought it was fun watching it with you. This was a lot of fun. It was a ton of fun. And I was very curious as to how this was going to go. And I think it's I think it's turned out pretty good.

[01:54:27]

I mean, this was a lot of fun. I mean, I hope that people at home had a lot of fun with this, but this was a blast. I mean, I'm just curious, how many beers did you go through? Uh, almost four. Yeah, same. Yeah. And I was kind of taking it easy, too. I wasn't taking as big a sips because I realized I don't think I have that much beer in my fridge.

[01:54:49]

So I was like, oh shit. So yeah I'm buzzing. Yeah, yeah. I feel, I feel pretty good. I'm going to finish the fourth beer I'm on right now. But yeah that was took some water. Yeah. There's a Thursday is going to suck. Um but this was a lot of fun. I want to do this more often. Like I think if we were to do this with TV shows too because those are like twenty two minutes or.

[01:55:15]

Yes, I can make that commitment, I can make that time commitment. I should be a lot of fun. Um, so I kind of want to ask you. So since, since we recorded our Scream episode, the podcast has changed. So and now we kind of like to talk about like messages from movies it. Was there any sort of message that you got on this second viewing of this movie? Wow, fuck.

[01:55:40]

I didn't think I'd have to be prepared. And that was OK. Just initial reactions, initial reactions.

[01:55:47]

I think just things aren't as they seem, you know, in the forefront, just surface level. I'm kind of drunk right now. I'm not going to lose, but pretty quickly.

[01:56:02]

Oh, good. I think just to be a little bit more practical, I think a little bit more about the situations you're putting yourself in and and go from there, you know, what about you? What's yours? You made a really good point halfway through this movie that I never thought about. I'm kind of imprisonment thought about this. But there's a lot of strong female roles in this movie. I mean, Tatum, Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers were all strong female characters.

[01:56:30]

Mm. Um, and you're kind of saying like this might be kind of a secret feminist movie. It might be. I mean, uh, yeah. It's definitely getting that vibe with the police because it's like, sorry, finish your thought and then. Oh no, no, no, no. Go ahead, go ahead. Go please. Well, no, I was thinking because it's like, um. So the police, they had, like, that penis shaped cactus.

[01:56:50]

They had all these trophies spread out like not hundreds, just a ton of trophies of. Yeah. From sports just all around the police station. And they're all talking about being a man and they're portraying Dewey is like very much of a child still, you know, he's twenty five years old. He's not quite the man that all these other guys are and that they're going to be the ones to solve the crime when ultimately it really came down to the to the women in the movie.

[01:57:20]

So, Drew, because Courteney Cox, this character, Gale Weathers, like, shoots the guy and she's like, it wasn't on safety this time, bitch. And and then we get Sidney, like, really sending it home, like taking the time to dress as Ghostface to, like, fuck up the Ghostface killers and just kind of like let him know, like you. You can't fuck with me like that is. Yeah I think dude. Yeah.

[01:57:49]

I think we both just kind of came to that conclusion. Obviously it was a joint effort. Absolutely.

[01:57:54]

Yeah I. That's a great point, something I have embarrassed, I never caught on to that. I mean, I've always latched on to the character Sidney Prescott, because she's such a strong final girl. She's such a strong character, you know? Mm hmm. And honestly, like, you know, if I were to do like a a draft of, like characters like Final Girls from horror movies, she would be like my number one pick because she like I know you haven't seen the sequels, but the sequels, she is like it's just she is are so hard in such a bad ass and like she just doesn't take any shit.

[01:58:29]

She's she's like up there like Sarah Connor for me. And it's Sarah Connor is like way more of a badass. But that's because those are like more action movies. Anyways, um, yeah. I mean, that's a really good point. And that's what I never noticed with a cactus. And like all the trophies and everything, that's how inept the police force in this is something that I got out of out of this viewing that I have before.

[01:58:50]

It was just how much they're showing how how much of like a child or like a man child, Dewey is because like all like the comparisons between him and the sheriff, like the hit the sheriffs smoke cigarettes. He eats ice cream cones. He has a piece of shit mustache. The sheriff is like balding and he knows he can't grow anything. So he just shaves his face. He has a clean, shaved face. I mean, it was I don't know.

[01:59:13]

And do he kind of gets picked on a lot. But, yeah, this was this was I don't know that that kind of outta my eyes up to like that comparison a lot more, but. Yeah, yeah. You talk about how this is like a secret feminist movie. Maybe it's not a secret, but a feminist movie like halfway through at the police station. I was like, oh, Nate's on onto something. That's a good point.

[01:59:31]

Well, not even like halfway through like I guess I guess you were saying when we caught it, but it's kind of like, um. So they portrayed Dewey as very childish, as you said, but they also assigned Dewey to kind of protect them, right? Yeah. He's the one who's supposed to watch over them. So it's almost as if they're implying that even our most childlike man is is capable to protect these weak, feeble women. Right.

[02:00:00]

But in the end, it's just like Dewey couldn't hold his own. Like homeboy got stabbed in, like, pretty much almost died. He's getting carted off in the in the ambulance at the end. Meanwhile, Gale Weathers and Sidney are the ones who actually, like, took it home. You know, it'd save the day. And Randy didn't do shit, said Randy literally didn't do a fucking thing. So it's kind of just like a a middle finger to talk about toxic masculinity.

[02:00:27]

And it's great. Was nice. Yeah. Oh, dang. OK, dude did feel the message out of here. OK, do you feel I'm too, um too buzzed to think of anything smart. All right man. Awesome. Well um I guess one of these, I mean one of these days we will absolutely do the sequels. I'm really interested. I know you don't care for Slasher's, but I am just genuinely interested to see what your thoughts are in the sequel sequels of this movie to this movie.

[02:00:54]

OK, yeah. Maybe we should save it for a first viewing like the watch along. Oh you think so. Be cool. Yeah, be open to that. OK, cool. OK, yeah we'll do that sometime. Maybe in twenty twenty. We'll do that. Yeah. As you say next year. Next October. Yeah. Yeah there'll be a lot of fun. OK, I'm curious because I think as I listen to our last episode I might have been a little harsh on the sequels because I, I mean I like scream too.

[02:01:22]

It's ok, I like it enough. Scream three. It's a guilty pleasure. I'll watch. It is still not good screen for is great but so I'll be curious to see what you think because I, I'm excited for some reason I can see you liking scream two more in this movie for. I don't know why I had that prediction but I do. Is it not a slasher. Is it like.

[02:01:42]

I mean it is but it's, it's just like I don't, I don't know how to explain it without spoiling, but it's it's a little different. I don't know how to explain it. Let me let me just comment on the whole whole horror movie slasher thing. I, I enjoy horror movies. I do not enjoy slasher. So the type of horror movie that I like or like, uh, psychological ones, paranormal ones, things like that. So like Insidious is my jam.

[02:02:10]

However, hereditary was taking it way too far for me. OK, uh, to the point where it fucked me up, not that it was a bad movie, I thought it was great movie. It just terrifies me still. All right. Yeah. We definitely need a cover city at some point in the country at all. And all those.

[02:02:29]

Yeah, I think a jump scary movie like four to watch along would be fun. It would be like maybe The Conjuring for me because I haven't seen that since I saw it in theaters. So it would be like watching it for the first time again. So I wouldn't be primed for the jump scares. Yeah, that's a good that's a good idea. OK, cool. So do you want to wrap things up or. Yeah sure. Um thanks everybody for listening.

[02:02:52]

If you're listening to this, that means you're a patron subscriber, so thank you. So. Much like we love that you love the show so much that you subscribe to some Patra on it, it blows my mind that you do this. So there's usually cheers to you. Yeah. Seriously. Yeah. Cheers to you. Let us know if you like this. And we could definitely do shorter ones for like TV episodes, if you like. I don't want to listen to like a two hour plus episode.

[02:03:16]

We get that. But I, I would like to make this a semi regular thing like maybe like every other month or every three months or something like that. I mean it depends what the listeners like, but listeners love this and you know, we'll see what we can do. But please give us feedback because this is the first time we did this. We kind of did this on a whim. So I'm not prepared at all for it. But I think it turned out great.

[02:03:38]

I think this would be really fun to do for like a shitty movie. Like for us. There's like shit on a movie, like a movie that comes to mind is I still know we did last summer.

[02:03:47]

That would be a lot of fun to see or we don't eat or we don't have to stick to horror's right.

[02:03:54]

Right. And do other types of shitty movies just as long as they're like under two hours. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.

[02:04:02]

Yeah. That awesome. Well thanks for being awesome parent subscriber. Thank you for listening to this first drink. A long episode of Film on the Rocks. I've been brought here. I'm joined by my buddy Nate. We were drinking October 1st and please give us feedback on this. Let us know if you liked it or not. All right. Bye bye.
