I'm Lupita Nyong'o. And guess what? And guess what? From Lemonada Media and Snap Studios at KQED, this is Mind Your Own, a new podcast that I've been working on. A while back, I was stuck in traffic thousands of miles away from Kenya, where I grew up. And I was thinking, you know what I would really love right now? To listen to a story from home. You know that story that once you hear it, you just have to call your friend and say, I have something to tell you. That's why I created Mind Your Own to go beyond the news reports about Africans and hear straight from us more of our nuanced, intimate stories. I want to help share them and tell a few of my own. There's this this Nandi flame tree. He slowed down under the tree and we kissed for the first time.

I love my children so much. I just wanted to give them all the goodies that I bring from Nigeria. These kids were the Holy Holies. Nobody mess with the Holy Holies. They were like, No, leave them alone. God is going to strike you.

And my mother is like, Amundi, get off that walk.

And she says, Have you ever been on a shamanic voyage? Can't you see your corpse is running? I didn't think we were this desperate, but I decided, Okay, you know what?. What will be will be, but in the worst possible way.
