I wouldn't make a good spy. I wouldn't. I don't have a poker face. So actor, maybe spy, no.

[00:00:10]

She might not be a spy herself, but Bryce Dallas-Houard has been learning the ropes in Argyll. A mystery movie, she says there's more to than First Meets the Eye.

[00:00:20]

It's like nothing you've ever seen before. And that's what it felt like making it on set.

[00:00:25]

The new film from director Matthew Vawn, Catnip, for a new generation of spy stories. Whoa, hey.

[00:00:32]

There's a cat in there.

[00:00:33]

Then refreshing the espionage genre with an unlikely heroine.

[00:00:37]

This is probably one of the hardest movie interviews I've ever had to do because there are so many twists and turns. How do you describe this film to people without giving anything away?

[00:00:47]

I would say this is a movie which starts off in a fantasy spy world, which we're all used to. And then you meet a real life spy that shatters all the illusions that we think are real.

[00:00:59]

Ellie Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard.

[00:01:01]

Oh, my God. You're Ellie freaking Conway.

[00:01:03]

Is a spy thriller novelist whose stories turn out to be closer to fact than fiction.

[00:01:08]

I'm just really drawn to movies that have a lot of spectacle and challenge inherent in it. So if it's Spider-Man or twilat or Terminator or Jurassic or whatever, that's my jam.

[00:01:22]

The Jurassic Park leading lady.

[00:01:25]

Damn it, Larry, be a man and do something for once in your life.

[00:01:28]

Why'd you have to make it personal? Now sharing the screen with so many stars in a film with just as many twists and turns to match.

[00:01:36]

It's such an A-list cast, but you can tell you all still have a really good time together.

[00:01:40]

For all of us, it was like, how far can we take this? How much fun can we have with this? How many risky choices can we make?

[00:01:48]

Super heroes like Superman's Henry Cavill, anti-heros like Brian Cranston of Breaking Bad, and Peacemaker's John Cina, and Oscar winners Sam Rockwell and Ariana DeBose, just to name a few.

[00:02:02]

The unexpected casting plays a huge role in this film. How important was that?

[00:02:07]

If you have the best script in the world, the best cinematographer, the best editor, if you've got the wrong actor, it doesn't matter. You're out of business. So casting, casting, casting is the most important thing for me.

[00:02:18]

Some say Vawn is following new rules when it comes to casting. Pop star, Dujour, Dua Lipa, joining in the hijinks, too.

[00:02:27]

What was it like working with Duhan? How did you decide to cast her.

[00:02:31]

I saw her on a chat show. Then she was interviewed, and she came across She had charisma. She's a pop star, and she's here to stay. So I got in touch, and she said she wanted to act. She'd never been on a movie. We shot this before, Barbie, so she'd never been on a movie set, and she worked hard.

[00:02:46]

This is my first experience doing anything like this, film-wise. And I loved it. I just wanted to get so immersed in the whole experience. I felt like a little kid having this mad experience. I loved it.

[00:02:59]

The Grammy Award winner appears opposite Caval, who's sporting a new look.

[00:03:03]

You had a very distinctive look in this movie.

[00:03:06]

When you see that flat top and you see the green velvet and Eric on a jacket, you go, Okay, we're in for a different ride.

[00:03:13]

A wild ride making plenty of punches.

[00:03:16]

How were the stunts?

[00:03:18]

It was a learning curve. I mean, I'd done some fight stuff, not as much as Henry. So Henry was like, Take it easy. You're going to get hurt.

[00:03:26]

How's the body feel now? Have you recovered?

[00:03:28]

It's still a wreck. It's a wreck. Still recovering.

[00:03:31]

So how are you guys answering questions?

[00:03:33]

Every journalist is like, We can't talk about anything because the plot has so many twists. We're literally leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for the audience to be on the edge of their seat.

[00:03:42]

Were you caught off guard and surprised by how many twists and turns there are?

[00:03:47]

It's like, Are you kidding me? No. I go back a little bit and go, Oh, I see how this is going to be set up.

[00:03:58]

Oh, man.

[00:03:59]

It It's just crazy. There's a lot of twists, a lot of red herring, a lot of things going on.

[00:04:05]

The book, Bon says, inspired the film, even droughted in its own real-life mystery, and it's sparking speculation as to who's the author behind the pen.

[00:04:14]

When you were making this movie, it sounds like you got inspiration from an unexpected source.

[00:04:18]

It's not Taylor Swift. I'm sure you're going to ask me that. And I'm like, It ain't Taylor Swift. It's been the weirdest.

[00:04:23]

It is very mysterious. Do you know who Ellie Conway is?

[00:04:27]

Of course I do. I think Ellie will... She's got to come out of the shadow. I think the Taylor Swift thing has just gone, Ellie, for my sake, please just get the spotlight off all these Taylor Swift questions and do some interviews. So I think that's going to happen soon.

[00:04:41]

While we don't know yet who the author is, there is one star of the film who, some say, steals the show.

[00:04:48]

There's only been one cast member that we've heard some conflicting reports on. You are front and center in the movie poster, but you have to share that front billing with the cat.

[00:04:58]

Yes.

[00:04:59]

How How does that make you feel?

[00:05:01]

Totally fine.

[00:05:02]

That's one of the few times I-Don't lie. You're jealous.

[00:05:06]

No, honestly, not. I'm joking. I mean, cats don't even register on my radio. I'm a dog person.

[00:05:11]

Alfi, the Cat, played by Chip, the real-life pet to Vawn and his supermodel wife and co-producer, Claudia Schiffer.

[00:05:17]

It's making me laugh that this cat could be the most famous person in our family.

[00:05:23]

We're just saying something.

[00:05:24]

Yeah.

[00:05:25]

Famous felines aside, the cast of Argyll says they can't wait for audiences to come along on this keeper.

[00:05:31]

There's a joyfulness and a heart in all of these action set pieces that are not necessarily typical in a spy thriller, and it makes it so, so, so special.

[00:05:44]

The book is phenomenal, sweetie, but... What happens next?

[00:05:50]

It's called a Cliffhanger, Mother. Our thanks to Maggie.

[00:05:58]

Argyll is out in Theaters Friday.

[00:05:59]

Hi, everyone.
