Broadening his technicolor sounds, Indie pop sensation, Cave Town, is now out with a new ERP called Little Vice, which features electronic tunes that transform conversations ranging from discomfort to vulnerability. Let's take a listen. That was Let Them Know They're On Your Mind off Cave Town's new ERP, and the artist Robin Skinner joins is us now in studio. How are you?

[00:00:32]

I'm good, thank you. How are you?

[00:00:33]

I am well. So let's just start off with Little Vice. What does that mean? Where did that come from?

[00:00:38]

Well, it's one of the lyrics from Lead the Mother on your Mind that spoke to me more than the others, I guess. I wanted to put across the idea of being constricted, but also sometimes a little vice that you have is also a way of opening yourself up or feeling better and the balance of feeling held by something, maybe a bad habit that you rely on, but at the same time, you rely on it. So it's not something you want to let go.

[00:01:14]

That's interesting.

[00:01:15]

Yeah.

[00:01:16]

I understand you started really creating your own music when you were 14. Did this start out as a little vice?

[00:01:24]

I guess so. I guess anything that You come back too often could be considered a vice because everything has its good and bad sides, I suppose. But yeah, music has always been a really helpful way for me to basically just word vomit in ways that I can't really do verbally, usually, which is strange. I always find it a lot easier to open up and talk about very vulnerable things through music and stuff.

[00:02:00]

You talk about vulnerable things a lot, in particular, finding your identity, the sense of belonging. You started out really on Bandcamp and YouTube, but then really started getting a huge following just by being what seems to be your authentic self in your music. What made you focus on those topics in particular, identity, belonging?

[00:02:23]

I think those are just what I needed to talk about. A lot of my music, I'm almost saying to myself, singing stuff that I want to hear. That's, yeah, identity and just finding my place in the world is something that I've struggled with for a long time. And through writing about it, it's helped me navigate those confusing feelings. And also, it's cool that I've built this whole world where I belong because it's my world. And it's nice to see the kids and and the fans relate to that side of it because I relate to them in return.

[00:03:05]

We just saw on the umbrella there, the This is Home project. Tell us about that, because that goes beyond your music endeavors.

[00:03:12]

Yeah. Well, This is Home is a song, one of the earlier songs that I wrote that became popular, which I basically wrote about finding my identity and finding my home in myself. It really resonated with a lot of people. I especially saw it in the live shows. People would really get very emotional during that song. I latched onto it as a way to I don't know, keep being there for my fans and stuff. When I first started touring, it was easier to interact with people and show that I care and talk to people and show that I care and stuff. As my music grew, it made sense for that part of it to grow as well. Any charitable efforts that I'd done in the past, we've tried to have local organizations come to shows and have a table there and educate people on what they're working on. This Home Project is something that we set up to expand that and make more meaningful connections with these organizations organizations.

[00:04:31]

And specifically LGBTQ+ community. Okay.

[00:04:34]

Yes. Sorry, that was probably a major point. But yeah, this has definitely resonated with LGBTQ+ teams, We're not specifically trans kids. A lot of what we do is providing resources and that stuff.

[00:04:57]

Robin, we thank you. You can listen to Cave Town's new ERP, Little Vice, out on streaming platforms, February 23rd.
