[00:01:16]

Don't worry, don't worry.

[00:01:17]

We all get that.

[00:01:18]

It's because being an adolescent is one of the most visceral shared experiences we have as people, and we want to talk about it. Join me, Penn Badgley, and my two friends, Nava and Sophie, on Podcrushed, as we interview celebrity guests about the joys and horrors of being a teenager and how those moments made them who they are today. New episodes of Podcrushed are out now, wherever you get your podcasts.

[00:01:43]

Lemonada.

[00:01:47]

What's up with that fire, boy? You forgot your bling bling.

[00:01:57]

Wait. Nibblings. Welcome back to another episode of Add to Cart. I'm your Auntie Cool Up, Vilay Sok.

[00:02:04]

And I'm your Auntie Susie Park.

[00:02:08]

Hi, Susie Park. We are in the beginning of Q2. Sush and Park, quarters of the year, this measurement.

[00:02:14]

We just learned this. We just learned this this year. Now we're just taking it on.

[00:02:20]

Yeah. And basically, regarding this podcast, and for the many years upon this Earth, I would just nod in recognition when people would say things like, In the first quarter, blah, blah, blah, all the way through Q4. Anywho, what I am to understand by people who know more than us is people in Q2, they're thinking about travel, especially looking at the summer. But you, Susan Park. You, Susan Park, you are ahead of the curve.

[00:02:50]

Well, yeah, because Q3 is what? Summer?

[00:02:53]

Yeah.

[00:02:54]

Yeah. And then Q4 is Christmas tree time. So yeah, Q2. Spring Spring has sprung, at least here in California.

[00:03:02]

That's true.

[00:03:03]

Cabin fever. We're out. You know what I mean? The babies are not hibernating anymore. And so I want to be on the road with the wind on my lips and a wheelie suitcase filled with snacks. We got our big family trip to Korea coming up in the summer. I can't wait.

[00:03:23]

Wow.

[00:03:24]

I just texted you and Deanna, and I don't know if you guys saw I don't have the text yet, but I will be doing a Costco trip in Korea. So that- Yeah, because- Should I just livestream that at like 2:00 AM?

[00:03:38]

100 %. We, Diana Chang, a. K. A. Device Detective, Diana Chang, Triple D. She just listened to our Susan Lou episode, where we get a big chunk of it devoted to Costco, and she is a Costco person.

[00:03:56]

And I'm not.

[00:03:57]

Yeah, because you're going to go in Korea. But how much are you going to buy? Because it's not like you can bring this stuff back, or can you?

[00:04:07]

Why? Why wouldn't you really bring this stuff back?

[00:04:10]

The space.

[00:04:11]

I'm just thinking about space, Sue. That's what I'm saying. Oh, yeah, yeah. No, no, no. We'll work it out. You'll work it out. We'll work it out, yeah.

[00:04:17]

Before your summer trip.

[00:04:19]

Yes. Before my summer trip, I'm taking my little baby girl on our first mother-daughter trip to Mexico City for her birthday. Amazing. I I will tell her the night before because- She doesn't know. No, she doesn't. Oh, my goodness.

[00:04:35]

That's amazing, Suchin.

[00:04:38]

Yeah, that's a hot tip. When you have a nine-year-old girl like I do. You got to tell them the night before. Otherwise, it's going to be for two months. When are we going? What should I bring? Why are we? What day? It's the question, so I can't do that. Okay. Got it.

[00:04:56]

I got it.

[00:04:57]

I got it. So the night before, I'm going to say, and she's going to lose her mind, and I'll just have 12 hours of her losing her mind, and then we'll be on a plane. So it'll be great.

[00:05:06]

Honestly, I feel like that's just the best of both worlds.

[00:05:10]

Yeah.

[00:05:10]

It's strategic, but also the most awesome.

[00:05:14]

Yeah. And then the benders hit the road. I am fresh off of this van life.

[00:05:21]

Okay, so you just came back from your first van trip. Let's get into our carts. I want to let you know, you look fantastic. Right when you got on the Zoom, I was like, Sexy Librarian. You told me that was redundant. But the truth remains, so you seem fresh, are you?

[00:05:42]

I mean, yeah, I think I'm fresh, but for other reasons. It has nothing to do with the van trip. Okay, so let's put it in context a little bit for those who may not know the entire story yet. We have, for the past two years, have been working on converting a van. A sprinter van? Yeah, a sprinter van, so Mike can travel. It is a yacht on wheels.

[00:06:06]

Mike has some health conditions that this is the best vehicle, if you will, to travel.

[00:06:14]

And because of his health conditions, he has not left the house overnight since 2018.

[00:06:22]

Wow.

[00:06:23]

He has not left the house for more than three hours at a time since 2019.

[00:06:30]

2020 is when you guys moved to Santa Barbara, right?

[00:06:33]

Yeah. Yeah.

[00:06:33]

Okay. I'm just trying to picture this in my mind. Well, that's what we're saying is it was a long time.

[00:06:40]

I'm so restless. Yeah. And so I can't even imagine What that does. I mean, that would break me. But he's a writer. He's more of a homebody, so maybe. But I mean, he is itching to get out.

[00:06:52]

Yeah. Yeah.

[00:06:53]

I mean, it's been years. So we decided that the best solution was going to be to outfit a bubble on wheels so that he could travel with us and the family. That's what we did. So add to cart, we got out of the fucking house. We got out. We did it.

[00:07:12]

I mean, there's been so build up. There's conversations about disaster toilets. There's conversations about just so much. There was so much going on. Finally, finally.

[00:07:23]

Now, we were supposed to take our first van trip last summer. This has been almost a year, even just delayed. We've finally been waiting for this. I mean, he had to do pre-sleep nights in the driveway to make sure that the van was working.

[00:07:43]

Yeah, of course.

[00:07:44]

That makes sense. It does make sense. Does the heater work? You know what I mean? Yeah. Does it actually work? You got to test it out. So this man was sleeping in the driveway for a while with tinfoil on the windows. This has been such a long time coming, and figuring out a destination was also a long time coming. I mean, we went from everywhere from we're going to go to Utah or skiing, to finally decided we're going to go up north, just take a nice drive to the San Francisco Monterey Bay Area, and we did three days up there.

[00:08:18]

I know there were plans for a ski trip. I know that there was an Airbnb search and a booking for a house with a long enough driveway for Mike to stay in. But then that It shifted.

[00:08:31]

Right. Because for those of you tuning in now and wondering what insanity you've just walked into, Mike has to sleep in the van. Now, when we started to build the van at first, he thought, We were all going to be sleeping in the van together. In his mind, that's how we were going to travel. Quickly, that started to unravel before the draft hit the table. I was like, There's no way that I will be able to sleep in this van going to the bathroom seven times a night with two other children. It just won't work for that reason. Also, I don't want to sleep with other people around me. I just want to sleep by myself when I'm traveling. So he has to sleep in the van. And so then it just complicates things, right? Because you can't just pull up to an apartment building or a hotel.

[00:09:28]

But you have to do research. You We have to do. Yeah. But again, just a reminder, a lot of us have seen the acclaimed film No Man Land, and we've got the idea. We got a picture in our minds, but continue.

[00:09:39]

So, add to cart. We got out of the house. Add to cart. We shit-talked a bit about Airbnb with our guest, Lamar Woods. And I do have to say, I mean, I'm not 100% because I've had some bad experiences, but Airbnb did come through. I will be posting and sharing with you some beautiful photos of a tree house we stayed in. Oh, my gosh. And then an Airstream on the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Holy cow. Yeah, we had to stay in these quirky places because of the van situation and the parking Yeah, but it's more complicated, but it sounds like- Beautiful. Yeah, but we're like, You know what? If we have to do this, let's make it beautiful. So we did do that, and so that was great. So remove from Cards.

[00:10:30]

Oh, now we're already going to the other side. I wanted to let you know we didn't spend a lot of time in the positive. Okay, go ahead.

[00:10:39]

Remove from Cart, this version I have of myself And you're going to laugh, I know.

[00:10:47]

Yeah, I'm holding on to it right now.

[00:10:48]

I have this version of myself where I think I'm an easygoing person.

[00:10:53]

Could you be specific when and where and at what time? And where's the moon at this time when you're this easygoing person?

[00:11:00]

Thank you. Because I really thought you were going to laugh yourself out of the chair. And am I interpreting that there are parts of me that you think are easygoing? Yeah.

[00:11:12]

Yeah, there are parts. There are parts.

[00:11:14]

Okay. So I have this this version of myself where I'm an easygoing person, I'm laid back. But it's when the rubber hits the road, literally, that I realize that the The circumference of my easygoingness is so small. And what surrounds the easygoingness is just like a prison concrete wall that will not be moved. So within this three-foot parameter, I'm chill. But I can't go beyond that.

[00:11:50]

Yeah, it's like you're so chill within a windowless basement, Parisian dark, dusty, dank hotel room.

[00:12:02]

Easygoing. I stayed in a hotel with an S, a hostel.

[00:12:08]

That's right. That's a search word you're looking for. You and Mike are particular in different ways, but you are particular. But easygoing, there's some things... To me, when you're easygoing, it's because you don't care.

[00:12:24]

Yeah, I'm tired. I don't care. I don't want to think about it. I don't want to make decisions. So Yeah.

[00:12:31]

That's when you're the easiest.

[00:12:32]

Easiest. Easiest is when I'm depressed and sleep-deprived. I am surfer laid back.

[00:12:41]

Yeah, that's I think fair.

[00:12:43]

It'll be like, I can sleep, I can stay anywhere. But I would like, and I require a bed to myself. I don't like to share beds when I travel. I'm up for eating anything, but at least once a day, I have to have rice. On this trip, man, I was like, I can't just have cheese all day, cheese and bread. Anyway, so these are the parameters. It was just interesting to see this duality show up at every decision because when you're traveling with your family, no decision, you can't make a decision on your own. There's no decision that is just what you want. It's what the group wants. And so you start to see like, wow, I am very inflexible when it comes to certain things. The other remove from cart I have is that when you're traveling with children, children still have to eat, and you still have to feed them. You know this, Coo. When they say the apple does not fall far from the tree, that is 100% true when it comes, I believe, with parents and kids. You're a hiker who loves to, I don't know, who to sleep in tents and go surfing.

[00:14:02]

Your kids are going to be hikers that love the outdoors, et cetera. My kids are like almost extinct orchids in a Victorian greenhouse because that's who Mike and I are.

[00:14:17]

Delicate. Precious.

[00:14:18]

So he doesn't eat ice cream. What child doesn't eat ice cream? She'll go to the ice cream place and just get a cone.

[00:14:27]

She'll snack on a cone like a chingu.

[00:14:29]

She'll get a Waffle cone. And I'm looking around and people, I'm like, they think that I chain her to a basement when we go back home. Who does that? We're all sitting there eating ice cream, and she's chomping on just the cone because ice cream, she doesn't feel good when she eats ice cream. And so when you're on the road like this and you're just trying to figure it out, at some point you have to eat fast food. I don't know when the next stop is going to be where we can get organic Basmati rice with grilled chicken. I don't know. And so either I'm cooking it in the van, which adds more time, or we're stopping by a fast food place. Now, my kids have had McDonald's once. They've never even heard of taco Bell, but there was a taco Bell, and I was like, great. We go into the taco Bell, they eat their taco Bell, and then the rest of the day, again, I have photos, they could get out of the bed in the van. They were so sick and so tired. Their tummy hurt, my head hurts from eating taco Bells.

[00:15:43]

They have so little toxin. But I know that Ky eats a large amount of fries and a large amount of popcorn.

[00:15:52]

Yes, he eats so many fries. And that's why I was like, this kid can handle it. But I guess when you're eating grass-fed I remember. That's another level. I used to love taco Bell. Bean burrito with cheese? Yeah.

[00:16:07]

Now, there's no way that Mike Bender ate it. No.

[00:16:10]

No, no, no. He's having his broccoli and his cheese. No. No, no, no. He's having his broccoli and his cheese. Van. I'm just doing the same thing I'm doing at home, only I don't have my stove top, and I don't have my refrigerator, and I don't have the spatula that takes off the perfect fried egg that's not going to be too runny, but not too hard for Zoe. You know what I'm saying? So I'm trying to make all this work. So that's a remove from cart. I don't know how that situation will be solved other than my kids are going to have to learn to eat taco Bell.

[00:16:46]

But there are other options other than taco Bell. I think we can skip taco Bell. We know that. That's the data that we've taken in, and we always skip taco Bell and go for Chipotle, at least, or something.

[00:17:00]

It's like they had dysentery. You know what I mean? Like an old-fashioned disease. They were in bed. You remember the Willy Wanka old movie where the old people were in bed? Like with the covers up to their necks.

[00:17:18]

See, the only way to eat taco Bell is to eat a lot of it and build up this toxic immunity. I just don't think you have the stomach for that, and they certainly don't.

[00:17:27]

It's our first time out. So there are things that I have to think about as we go forward that I have to lessen this burden where I'm not making homemade hash browns in a tree house on an electric burner. Koo, I don't know if I've ever shared this with you, but my brother's nickname for me is Shujun. Did I? No. Did I ever tell you he calls me Shujun because I cannot resist shoes. I have so many pairs of shoes. And it's not because I love shoes. It's because, as you know, I've got little, bony, narrow, weird feet. Bird feet, yeah. Bird feet. And It's so hard for me to find comfortable shoes.

[00:18:19]

I get it. It's why when it comes to shoes, I think a lot of it is about the quality of how it's made that can make the biggest difference, which is why we are so happy here on the pod to take comfort with Bore and Shoes.

[00:18:29]

It's right. Bore and Shoes are comfortable for so many reasons. Okay, first, they're made with the absolute best top quality soft leather, and the shoes have extra cushion for support. I just got a perfect pair of sandals for warmer weather It's in a sophisticated wine burgundy color. And this leather, it's so soft. From the get-go, it feels like you've had this pair for years.

What would we be if we were not talking about underwear? We want to tell you about the new underwear we are obsessed with. It's the Fits Everybody collection, and truly, it fits everyone by Skims. And it's so rare that you say the hype is real, the hype is earned. And it's true.

[00:20:53]

It's because it's like no other underwear we've worn before. It's so stretchy and soft. It just melts onto your body But it holds there. The Skims team, they know what they're doing.

[00:21:04]

I got the scoop braulet, and in this Espresso color, and I just feel like I'm an underwear model, like an influencer, like someone who drinks coconut water and swims in the ocean. It just hits all the right places.

[00:21:25]

Sujan doesn't drink coffee, but she'll wear it. She'll wear it good. And so it feels like you're wearing nothing, right? I have no idea what technology they use for this underwear. It's incredible. I got an assortment of boy shorts and briefs and thongs. My favorite is the cheeky brief in onyx. It's so smooth and comfy. I just really love any clothes that strike that perfect balance between cute and comfortable.

[00:21:49]

[00:21:58]

After you place your order, be sure to let them know we sent you. Select podcast in the survey and be sure to select our show in the drop-down menu that follows.

[00:22:10]

As anyone would imagine, remove from cart, you have four people living in a van. Yeah. There's a lot of smells.

[00:22:19]

And then you're talking about when you're driving, you're on the road.

[00:22:25]

Yeah, but also we're stopping every three hours so that Mike can eat. The smell of like, steamed broccoli in a van, then that traps in the van for the next three hours as we're driving to our next location. Got it.

[00:22:38]

Got it. Got it.

[00:22:39]

And then I'm peeing every 45 minutes.

[00:22:42]

That's co-mingling.

[00:22:43]

Even though the toilet, the Japanese-move the toilet. It seals it in as quick as possible. It's like one of those vacuum sealers. It's like zing. Yeah. But, you know.

[00:22:58]

Sure.

[00:22:59]

I still got to sit on it.

[00:23:00]

You go, Mama's got to pee. And then everybody just, What happens? What happens?

[00:23:06]

Well, first of all, the toilet takes a little bit of pre-work. So when I start to feel it, I got to go, Ky, fire her up.

[00:23:16]

Why?

[00:23:17]

Because it's in the back. . Okay. So then he's got to pull the drawer out. He's got to feed the plastic bag like an old printing press. You got to feed the plastic bag through that, and there's a little thing that you push into it.

[00:23:36]

Like an old-fashioned typewriter.

[00:23:37]

Yeah. You got to feed it into the machine, and you got to do it right, or else it doesn't seal it perfectly. And you want that sealed perfectly. And so I'll say, Fire her up. And he goes back there, he pulls it out, he does the plastic thing. And then I turn on the music real loud. Beyoncé released her country album. Oh, I love it.

[00:24:00]

On repeat, on repeat. What an interesting core memory for Ky. Interesting. Core memory for Cool Up listening to Susan Fox.

[00:24:09]

At what age do they revolt? At what age do they wake up and be like, The fuck? This is not normal. At what age? I'm scared.

[00:24:22]

I mean, when it's time for them to move away, and maybe this is something that's important. This is how he doesn't stick around.

[00:24:31]

I don't think I have that long. Really? I don't think so. I think when they start to get into middle school, high school, and they see how other families do it, and they're not firing up the toilet. I think he only needs to see that once.

[00:24:46]

All right. Well, look, I guess enjoy it now and be in the present because I guess the future is too soon. I've seen Van Life on TikTok. People, do these things.

[00:25:00]

Oh, that's not our van life.

[00:25:02]

No, I know. It's usually a single girl with a dog.

[00:25:07]

In a yoga thong unitard. Just coming out from a swim in the ocean. This is not... This van is... You know what I mean? It's a disaster van is what it is. It's made for human disasters. It's a beautiful ride, and it's got all the that a disaster family could ever want. I do have to say, as soon as I got home, that first 24 hours was dark. I many times had to stop myself from group texting the add to cart, grouping like, I don't want to talk about it.

[00:25:47]

Oh, wow. I did.

[00:25:49]

Because I was like, I'm not sure.

[00:25:53]

Because you were angry. You were feeling angry.

[00:25:55]

Not even angry. I don't even think I could have processed that far. I was in shock. Yeah. I was like, Wait, this has to be part of the vacation rotation. I have to make this work.

[00:26:09]

Yeah.

[00:26:10]

I like traveling by myself. But for me, traveling and going on vacation is about just abandoning my life. I haven't really had to do a lot of family vacations because we haven't been able to. It's an interesting thing. When I came back, I was like, Wow, I have to really get my head around, what is this? What are the expectations? Why are we doing this? It doesn't matter if you're in a van. I think when traveling with kids, you just have to figure out, right? You have to recalibrate what fun looks like and what that is.

[00:26:43]

Then at this point, having done it, you need to figure out how this can work for Sook Yee and Park. As you said to our past guest, Susan Lou, Happy mother, happy life. Happy mother, happy family. How is this going to work for you, and some people are going to also have to be a little flexible that aren't just you.

[00:27:09]

Yeah, and it's going to be a long time before I get that fan again.

[00:27:12]

I was going to ask, do we know when When do we...

[00:27:16]

I need some time to really process. There were just moments in there where I was like, whoa. I mean, the second night, I was on my app at 2:00 in the morning because, of course, I didn't sleep once through the entire trip. Oh, boy. On my app being like, How much is an Uber home?

[00:27:33]

Oh, my God.

[00:27:34]

It's a lot. But not that much. I was like, It's doable. I can get from city to city. And so I was like, Okay, if I Uber home with the kids and then Uber back, pick up Mike in the van. You know what I mean? I was doing the second night because I was like, Oh, I can't do... I won't make it the next day. This is not going to happen. So I got through that, and this started because the first day I got back, I was shocked. I was shell shocked because I was so tired. I just did not expect that to go the way that it did. But now that I've had some time and some sleep, I'm like, Oh, there was moments of just absolute fun.

[00:28:19]

I'm curious because everything you said makes sense, but I guess I'm wondering why you thought it wasn't going to go that way and didn't prepare for it.

[00:28:30]

I think I didn't want to put any weight on it before. I didn't want to panic. So I was more like ostrage in the sand. I was like, That's going to be my mechanism to get in this.

[00:28:43]

Okay, so this goes back to your It was an initial remove from cart, which is just let go of the story that I'm an easygoing person, that my kids... Also, let's throw Ky and Zoe. That my kids are easy, breezy. Let that There we go. Let it go. It does not serve you.

[00:29:02]

No. It truly does not. Knowing that, then I can make plans for a road trip that's doable, that's short and sweet. Because I was thinking, I was like, Is it a success? Was this a success? We've spent so much time building this van, so much money, so many resources have gone into this.

[00:29:24]

It's a lot of pressure.

[00:29:25]

It's a lot of pressure. For me, it's a lot of pressure for me. It's a lot of pressure for Mike. I think that the fact that he hasn't left the house on a trip since 2018, that is why we did it. It's an extreme success. But like you said, I just have to get real with what I need.

[00:29:48]

But it's also just being like, this is our reality. It's us being at home with less things. We want to be these manic Pixie, you know?

[00:29:58]

Yeah. Just like, jump in the ocean. Yeah. I don't need to shower. It's okay. You know, as you're just, you know, wiping yourself down with baby wipes, and I'm just not...

[00:30:11]

Yeah.

[00:30:12]

No. I can't do that. I need a bed. I need a shower. I need a kitchen. These things can happen in 2024, by the way. These aren't crazy things. But I was like, Oh, of course we can stay in a fucking tree house with a With an outhouse that's 30 feet away. No, I can't stay in that.

[00:30:36]

Sue, I could have told you that. I almost feel like you need to send me all of your travel plans so I can tell you, You're not going to do this. What are you talking about? I know for a fact how many times you get up at night, that you're going to go in the outdoors and go to an outhouse like that. Sue, that's like, insane. That is an insane.

[00:30:59]

Hey, Parks and Rec fans, Jim O'Hare and Greg Levine here to tell you that Parks & Recollection is back. Yes, we are back. Everybody, it's me, Jim O'Hare.

[00:33:09]

We are joined by some great friends of the show like Ben Wyatt himself, Mr. Adam Scott. I'm Greg Levine, Parks & Rec writer. And yes, we're diving right back in where we left off, and there's so much to talk about. Listen to Parks & Recollection wherever you get your podcast. Hi there. It's Julia I'm Louis Dreyfus. You may know me from my podcast called Wiser Than Me, where I talk to Older Women and get their wisdom from the front lines of life. After season one air, I was amazed by how many people told me our show made them look forward to getting older. Which is why I'm here to talk about Season 2 of the show. Sally Field, Billy Jean King, Beverly Johnson, Aina Garten, Bonnie Ray, just to name a few, and of course, my 90-year-old mom, Judy. All hail Old Women. Wiser Than Me Season 2 is out now from Lemonada Media.

[00:34:06]

I don't know if I've been saying this out loud to you, Sue, but I, since January, have decided that we have to get out of the house once a month.

[00:34:18]

Once a month? Wait, what do you mean by we? Who's we?

[00:34:21]

Well, that's also... I should be specific.

[00:34:24]

You and Scott.

[00:34:26]

Me. I want to leave town once That's being honest. Who? That's being honest. Yeah, it started with going to Casey's La Quinta house with my besties, and then going, Oh, man, Scott should go out, too. So then February was, Let's go to Santa Barbara, just me and him.

[00:34:45]

Okay.

[00:34:46]

And then March was, let's go to Newport Beach. I put this in our recent newsletter, and, Hey, if you haven't signed up for our newsletter, what are you doing? Linkinbio. We dive even deeper, and there's even more of an insight into our madness.

[00:35:02]

Yeah. But you don't like shopping? You don't like staying in hotels? You don't like doing any of that? What are you doing here?

[00:35:07]

What are you doing here? So we went to Newport Beach because my mother-in-law's birthday weekend, and I don't want to stay in Orange. So I was like, Scott is Marriott Bonvoy, Gold Elite. Thank you very much. So I'm looking on the app. What's a nice hotel that's nearby. We stayed at the Lido Hotel. Dude, come on.

[00:35:29]

That's how I roll. You see the You fucking staying at the Lido fucking hotel. For those that don't know, I've stayed at the Lido Hotel, one kid. I mean, that's premium gorgeousness. It's the hotel, right? That looks like... Isn't the interior downstairs like a yacht club vibe?

[00:35:51]

Yes, that's the one.

[00:35:52]

Navy, white pinstripe. That's right.

[00:35:55]

And this was the first hotel experience with Emy. I think it went really well. Yeah, and I talk about this in my newsletter. So that's what I've been up to.

[00:36:06]

Once a month, you got to do it.

[00:36:09]

May, I think we're going back to Santa Barbara this time with the kid. So I'll hit you up. But that's where I am at with traveling. I love it. Of course, I mentioned in April, I will be going solo with June and Matt and Danielle to Miami Beach Pride. So again, we But I'm always leaving. No matter what, what is the common denominator? I am always leaving the house once a month.

[00:36:36]

A hundred %. Yeah. A hundred %. I couldn't agree more. You need to do it.

[00:36:41]

Yeah. Just a weekend. It's just been weekend trips.

[00:36:44]

It's weekend trips. I think that you'll build yourself up to longer trips, but it doesn't matter. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like as creative people, the only inspiration that is 100% guaranteed for me, and I don't care if it's a terrible trip or if it's my fantasy trip, it's seeing something different with my eyeballs. Yeah, absolutely. It doesn't matter. Anything else. Mushrooms, caffeine, movies, Shopping online, all of that great. Supplemental. My eyeballs need to see something, a different horizon. Otherwise, that part of me dies.

[00:37:27]

Yeah, I am the same. Absolutely am the To that end, I'm also making a concerted effort to see live performances in town this year. So I've seen Kate Berlante's solo show, Kate. It was amazing. I saw my friend Lily Sullivan's solo show. Matt McConkey was the lead in a 30-minute musical of the film Roadhouse. He played the Patrick Swayzey part. What? Last night, I saw Jackie Johnson's solo show, How to Land Your Second Husband. It's just fantastic. It's so good. Former guest, Jackie Johnson. Then I also saw one of the Los Angeles closing weekend performances of Drag: The Musical. It was so fucking good. It was so great. It stars truly my favorite drag name and drag performer, Alaska Thunderfuck, nick Adams, Joey McEntire from New Kids on the Block, and former add to our guest, Jujube. There's so many great performers in this, from top to bottom. Everyone's amazing. I went with my friend Laura Kindred, and Jujube generously upgraded our seats to front row and center. And it was like I was on stage. I felt so in it.

[00:38:46]

And they served.

[00:38:49]

They all served. And I believe in the fall, they're going to be in New York. So if you have a chance to see Drag the musical, you must, you must, You Must, You Must, The Music, The Wigs, The Costumes, The Comedy. I cried in one part. It was just so... It's such a good time. That has just been my experience of going to see these shows. We're just seeing people who I'm fans of, whom I love, and generally who I happen to know because I'm in the arts, being funny the way that they want to be funny, doing the things that they want to do. That's what you hope to see in of these performances. But it's just been so inspiring and refreshing and exciting. The pandemic and that vortex of time that we all were in, where we were in the underworld and- The strike. Oh, my God. You're absolutely the strike and just wanting to be in this place of having this communal experience. Scott, I love, is making the point to go see concerts.

[00:40:01]

Yeah, and he's always been that way. He loves music.

[00:40:05]

He loves music. And then I've been making a point to, I'm going to people's shows and I'm going to Angel City football club. We're doing this.

[00:40:14]

Wait, let's Angel Angel City football club?

[00:40:15]

It's a women's soccer.

[00:40:18]

Oh, okay. Got it.

[00:40:19]

Yeah. So I went to one soccer game last year.

[00:40:22]

In LA?

[00:40:22]

In LA. And I asked Scott for Christmas to get me season tickets.

[00:40:27]

So that's just really fun. Because are they playing? Do they play in that open stadium downtown. I went once. It is so fun.

[00:40:35]

Bmo. Bmo Stadium. It's so fun. The vibe is so fun.

[00:40:40]

It's like a party. I've never been to a sports game that felt like that. That's what I love, is just the vibes in the stands.

[00:40:49]

Look, Sue, your brother has moved to LA. I'd love for you to come to a game with me sometime. We can figure it out.

[00:40:54]

Now that you're a season ticket holder.

[00:40:57]

They're great seats. They're great seats.

[00:41:00]

Look at us. Our eyelids flapping in the wind, our wigs askew.

[00:41:07]

A reminder that this podcast started October 2020. What a difference. Thank God. Thank whoever.

[00:41:15]

Oh, my God. Listen, all good and terrible things come to an end, and we begin anew. I feel like this is the sun rays, the dawn. Then the election comes, and who knows? I mean, so let's Enjoy the vitamin D this summer. Let's enjoy it this spring. I'm not going to be home.
