Are you one of the people that's looking to get out of the big city and move to Montana and live out in the country? Well, in this video, I'm going to tell you some things about living in the country in Montana that you probably didn't think about. All right, so I climbed all the way up this mountain to give you a better view of Montana so the least you can do is subscribe to our channel. And when you do, don't forget to Little Bell and you'll be notified every time we make a new video about Montana.

[00:00:36]

We've been getting calls every week now from people that want to get out of the city and move to Montana and get away from it all. And I get that. I can't imagine living in a big city the past six months with all the lockdowns and everything. But the people that want to get away, I don't think they realize. And if you're one of them, you don't realize what you're getting into. And some of these places in Montana, we can be very rural here.

[00:01:02]

And I've had people call and say, I want to get way out as far out as I can. But they don't understand. I mean, we're right here in the Flathead Valley here. And even right at this point, I'm 25 minutes away from a grocery store. And the other thing that people don't think about when you're out this far is the cell service can be very poor in some areas. And you're you're going to deal with that if you if your car breaks down or you need to go get groceries real quick.

[00:01:35]

You're looking at a half hour drive to get anywhere. And this is fairly close right now. There's some places northwest of here that you can be an hour away from civilization if you want to say that. So be careful what you wish for if you're trying to get out of the city and just look into where you're going. And don't don't think it's going to be all rosy to live way out because there are issues. Another thing, if you're out here in your car breaks down and there's no cell service, you're walking.

[00:02:07]

So hopefully you can walk quite a ways if you live out this far. Again, I talked about the cells or the cell service and the Internet connections out here. If you're trying to work remotely, keep that in mind, because that will be a big issue. It's hard to get. The further out you go, the harder it is to get high speed Internet. The other thing we have out here is animals. And a lot of them, we have bear, wolf, elk, deer.

[00:02:36]

It's great. But if you live way out here, you're going to have to be careful with your food that you leave out dog food, whatever it may be. If you have chickens, they can, you know, draw in these predators and they can cause problems. So if you're coming from a city, that's something you may not think about. And the other big thing people don't think about out here or what they want is everybody wants to move to Montana.

[00:03:00]

And, you know, I don't want any laws and I love Montana because there's no laws and I don't want covenants and I want to live out where there's no rules and I can do what I want. Well, that sounds like a great idea on paper. But the problem is, is you may take care of your property and have it the way you want, but the neighbor may move in and decide to put a bunch of junky trailers and junked cars all over their property.

[00:03:26]

And because there's no covenants that they can do that. So keep that in mind if you're looking to buy a place with no covenants. The other thing out here that you run into a lot of Montana, is easements. There may be some people that have permission to cross your property, especially if you have a big piece of land. And they may have been using this crossing or road through your property for years and you can't just show up and shut it down.

[00:03:55]

They probably have the rights to it as an easement. And again, these are things you need to check in to make sure your agent checks into it and they know what they're doing when it comes to these type of rules. The last thing that people don't get is we have winters here and we can have some big time winters. We get tons of snow up and whitefish at the top of the ski resort. They get 400 inches of snow a year.

[00:04:20]

And we don't get as much down in the valley like that, but we get a ton of snow. So if you look at the road behind me, you're driving this in the middle of winter. There's as you can see, there's no guardrails. If you slide off the road, you're in the ditch. And like we talked about earlier, you're because of the cell service and some of these areas, you could be walking. The roads get really icy here sometimes, depending on, you know, it warms up a lot during the day.

[00:04:52]

And then it'll it'll you know, things will melt a little bit, then it'll start freezing again. And they do allow studded snow tires here just for that reason, because the roads are they get pretty treacherous sometimes in the winter. So, again, another thing to keep in mind, and if you're way out, a lot of these properties that are way out like this in the winter, they don't have the county doesn't come plow these roads. It's up to you and the other homeowners that live on the road.

[00:05:20]

So you. They need a pickup with a plow on the front of it if you want to get out in the winter sometimes, so keep that in mind. It's a little different. You may be getting away from the city, but you're giving up a lot of the conveniences that you're used to in the big cities here in Montana. A lot of people, you know, they're great with that. They do it on their own and they take care of themselves.

[00:05:44]

And the big thing, they don't like people coming in from the big cities and telling them how to live. The people here in Montana are awesome. They just love the state. They love the way it is. They love the fact that you can pretty much do what you want. And a lot of these areas, what they don't like is the people moving in from the big cities and trying to change everything right now. That's really happened in both in the Bozeman area.

[00:06:08]

In fact, Bozeman is now known as Bozz Angeles, because so many people from California have moved up there and it's they're turning it into northern California. So that's the one thing if you're moving here from out of state, just the reason you're moving here is why people love it here. So don't change it. People like it the way it is. And they don't like to be told what to do. And they're willing to let you do the same thing.

[00:06:38]

Just don't push the where you came from and to the people here and you'll get along just fine. So I hope that helps any of you looking to move here from the big city. Remember, it's totally different. There's a lot you need to know and learn and there's a lot of things you need to prepare for that you're not used to. If you're coming from a city, all the little conveniences that you take for granted there are up to you when you move out here to the country.
