This episode is brought to you by Spring Cleaning Champions manscaped. You, you can be a Spring Cleaning champion. You can trim. Because you got trim this winter, didn't you? You got your summer bod ready.

[00:00:12]

Yeah, well, you can tell.

[00:00:13]

Yeah, absolutely. You got to just make sure that the hedges are trimmed, baby. Let's go.

[00:00:18]

Steve's on a, what is it? 30 something year bulk?

[00:00:22]

Yeah.

[00:00:24]

30 something. 30 something is the nicest way to put it.

[00:00:28]

Listen, if you want to be like Jesse and shave your beard and then have everybody mention it in the comment section, you should try the beard hedger Pro kit and handyman electric face shaver. Jesse, you actually use these. I do.

[00:00:39]

That's exactly how I shave my face when I shave it occasionally.

[00:00:42]

Now, why is it that you went so low last week? Because I think you freaked a lot of people out.

[00:00:47]

I'm getting ready for the playoffs because I wanted the payoff beard and I wanted it to grow out. You have to get a reasonable short enough. You can just start with the beard and then keep growing the beard. No, that makes sense. I wanted to cut it down to prepare for that in the next couple of weeks.

[00:00:58]

I love this. Steve, are you doing yours?

[00:00:59]

Yeah, I'm going to cheat. I don't care what he says.

[00:01:03]

I need to. You know what you shouldn't do play off here, though? Down there. And manscaped, you can get 20% off in free shipping with the code Dangle@manscaped. Com. That's 20% off in free shipping with the code, Dangle It's Steve Dangle. Com. Nothing like a little spring cleaning in your pants. The Steve Dangle podcast with your host, Steve Dangle, Adam Wilde, and Jesse Blake. Let's go. Hey, so is it fair to say that when you put the fuck into an empty net improperly, it will elicit a response? I just want to ask if that statement is fair.

[00:01:42]

Well.

[00:01:43]

Is it fair to say?

[00:01:44]

I can't believe grown men get in front of a microphone and don't understand the difference, the many numbered nuances between what What Morgan Reilly did and what Katie Kujuck did. I can't believe you don't understand the difference between what Ridley Greg did and Nico Heeser did. Man, can't believe you don't understand that. Today is going to be awesome.

[00:02:14]

I haven't got an answer from you guys. If you improperly put a puck into an empty net, and there are multiple ways to do it, does it elicit a response?

[00:02:23]

Well, define improperly.

[00:02:26]

Well, okay, putting it in after the whistle or slapping it in at the end of the game mid-play. Not the same situation, but, arguably, still incorrect way to put it in because it's, not sportsmanlike, we must say, feelings.

[00:02:42]

It entirely depends on whether or not your arena is 40 kilometers from where people actually live. If it's out there, then maybe. Then maybe it's just okay when you respond to empty netters.

[00:02:56]

Can you believe the reaction to this incident? Yes, I cannot. Hey, whoa. Hey, here we go. It was a good one. I'm a father and a girl, dad.

[00:03:08]

When-support you. When Ridley Greg slapped the punk into the net, Katie K'Chuck said he was crying, laughing on the bench.

[00:03:16]

Yeah?

[00:03:16]

On Saturday night, he was merely crying or close to it. Now, I want to say in all seriousness, no, they are not the exact same situation. But what I would like to argue is that the same rule was broken.

[00:03:29]

Oh, So they're completely different and exactly the same.

[00:03:33]

The code, which is not written down anywhere, you're just supposed to know it. So you pick up a hockey stick, the code goes directly from your CCM hockey stick right into your brain. You should know. Okay? That you should not improperly put a fuck into the net.

[00:03:49]

Define improperly.

[00:03:50]

Well, I can't. I don't even know how to define it because I don't know because it's not written down anywhere.

[00:03:54]

I didn't plan it. But if there is-Riddley Griggs gold count.

[00:03:57]

When is it okay to be mad at people for doing the empty netter incorrectly. Right.

[00:04:02]

This is my thing. So Sends fans, here's what you got to know. Here's what you got to know. We got to start the show with this. This happened. Nico, he sure did this because of what Riddley Griggs did.

[00:04:14]

Has he been sentenced yet?

[00:04:16]

Absolutely. I think in that moment, he thought about all that, or was he just simply putting the puck towards where he was going?

[00:04:23]

I think teams know. I think teams pay attention. I think it's a small league, and they're like, Okay, if I ever get an empty netter against the Ottawa senators, we'll see what I do with it.

[00:04:31]

I just want to say, he got an unsportsmanlike penalty for that. Did he? Yeah. At the end of the game, so it doesn't matter. But it tickled me pink because that was his sixth penalty of the season.

[00:04:45]

Oh, wow.

[00:04:46]

The entire season, he's taken six penalties.

[00:04:50]

Is the lady being out of reach for Nico?

[00:04:51]

You know what? I think that's sealed. He's done.

[00:04:54]

Wow.

[00:04:55]

He's done.

[00:04:56]

Now, listen, I do think that they're completely separate situations, we said that. But this is the same rule, which is, don't disrespect my team. Otherwise, my team will respond. Now, did Morgan Reilly take over the line? Well, yeah, of course he did. He got five games for it. Did the senators take it over the line? No, the refs got in the way. I also think the senators are a whole lot of, not a lot of follow-through.

[00:05:21]

Both guys should have done something. I think that should have been the case. You should come to the conclusion that Morgan Reilly was right to respond, and so was Bridget Chuck.

[00:05:31]

No, you're wrong. You know why? Because it happened against my favorite team. That's why you don't understand the rules apply differently to my favorite team.

[00:05:39]

The people who are like, Yeah, Bridget Chuck should have done something, should be on the side of, Morgan Reilly should have done something. The conclusion we came to at the time was that Morgan went too far. Nobody condoned a cross-check to the face. We said, Yes, he should get mad, but don't do that.

[00:05:55]

I thought five was a little stiff, but you can do it.

[00:05:59]

You can't do that. Can't do that. But the response is like, yeah, you can't do that, Ridley Grigg, because we might do something to you. Right.

[00:06:07]

No, no. Sentence fans, they're very... Sometimes you got to give something to get something, you see? And you got to... So here, this is a little... I'm miming it. It's an olive branch that I'm going to give out to Ottawa Senator's fans here. Okay? Are they the same, these incidents? No, they're not the same. One is a legal goal, scored with a legal slap shot.

[00:06:34]

Yes.

[00:06:35]

During game play, legal goal, legal slap shot, during game play, and the goal counted. The other Not a goal. After the game, putting a buck into an empty net, which we know is unsportsmanlike conduct, showing up your opponent.

[00:06:58]

He got a penalty.

[00:06:58]

And he got a for it and is in jail as we speak. That is why the incidents are not the same. Here's how they're exactly the freaking same. It's all about respect.

[00:07:13]

It's what Adam said. Adam said it. They broke the same code.

[00:07:16]

It's disrespect. The whole thing is disrespect. What I couldn't believe from the Ridley Greg thing is how many people were like, No, we see this all the time.

[00:07:28]

Nobody's seen that.

[00:07:30]

No, we see slap shots 10 feet out from the net, unguarded, with five seconds left for the game. We see that all the time. That is a nightly thing that we see in the game of hockey. No, it is freaking not. We know what he was trying to do. If I was a sentence fan, I'd have his Jersey. Do you understand the nameplate would still be warm on my back when I bought it? If I was a sentence fan and really great did that to the least, I'd have Jersey by the next day. I'd have it before breakfast. But there's a reason for that. It's not just that heiced the game with an empty netter, it's that he did it with a little... You know what I mean? A little bit of his ass to it, right? Disrespect.

[00:08:18]

Yes.

[00:08:19]

Then Morgan Reilly did something. He did a little bit too much, but he did something. Braided K'Chuck was just doing his job as captain.

[00:08:26]

He had 16 hits. The most ever recorded in NHL game history. That is bonkers. Since hits were a stat that's been recorded.

[00:08:34]

That's crazy that that happened at home.

[00:08:37]

They were doing those now. I saw somebody listed out everybody who was on the receiving end of his hits. It's pretty legit '16. I got no problem with it.

[00:08:48]

Sorry, I have to take my cheap shot. You just have it in the way.

[00:08:53]

Noted Morgan Reilly fan, Adam. But then Nico, he sure does that. And Brandon K'Chuck, you can read his lips. Because he's like, What is that?

[00:09:00]

What is that?

[00:09:01]

Because you're not supposed to do that.

[00:09:03]

So when Ridley Greg takes a slap shot from two feet out, what's the response? What the hell is that?

[00:09:09]

What the hell is that? Hey, that is an uncommon thing, and you did it against my team. I'm going to fight you for that uncommon thing. It's the exact... It's two very different things that are actually the exact same, and I won't have the conversation otherwise. That's what it It's not a debate, actually. That's what it is.

[00:09:34]

Thumbs up to braided K'Chuck for not taking somebody's head off with a stick. If you want us to give you that, Sense of Ed, we'll give you all that. Absolutely. He did it better than Morgan Reilly because he's not going to get suspended for anything. Totally. Cool. But they both reacted to the same nonsense. They broke some code.

[00:09:53]

I got a huge kick out of... And this is why people people who don't like hockey don't understand it. Some guy goes, Well, at least he fought him and didn't assault him. When I was like, Oh, man. This is why-Fighting is assault.

[00:10:14]

We're aware of that, right? It's the same rule. Just like the slapping the buck, punching someone, and they're punching back, same rule.

[00:10:23]

It's still assault. It's like you ever heard the rule that you need friends outside of your field of work? Yes. And not everyone does. You need friends outside of your field of work. That, to me, is you need friends who don't watch hockey.

[00:10:40]

That's a crazy thing to say. Or you need to do yourself a favor and watch one other sport.

[00:10:46]

Well, at least he fought him and tried to punch him, but not assault him.

[00:10:51]

No.

[00:10:53]

Listen, we can all agree what Morgan Reilly did was way different than what Bradley Goodjuck did. But the Saper filling. Please level with me and understand. Please tell me you understand why this is the best.

[00:11:09]

This is unreal. So here's the thing, they can't, and that's okay.

[00:11:14]

A lot of them can. They can.

[00:11:16]

You can. I think a lot of people cannot, and that's okay. I completely get it. But you know deep down somewhere that we're right about this. Same rule, different situations, same rule. And it's hilarious, and you would laugh, too.

[00:11:30]

One thing I didn't see was the postgame interviews with Kajuk. I didn't see that either. Yeah, I didn't see the locker room Scrum, nothing like that. I was looking for it, and I didn't see it. I haven't seen anything. I was just checking with you guys to see if you had seen the comments. I assume they asked him. They asked the fucking guy.

[00:11:47]

I was too busy having the night of my life. Listen, in terms of non-playoff good nights you can have, in terms of regular season good nights you can have, the Leaps beat the Habs on the same night the Sens did that. That's great. Oh, that's so good. What could be better? What could be better?

[00:12:14]

Like an overtime win. Brad Marshan got kicked out of a game.

[00:12:18]

Yeah, or coughed it up, or went for a line change with seconds left in a Stanley Cup final game and fucked his team out of a cup. Brad. But But it's against the leaves.

[00:12:31]

The Bruins folded. They shut down the franchise.

[00:12:33]

No, no. See, that's war on Boston. I like Boston. Okay. Now, the Bruins- Can you just quickly give me a good bob call?

[00:12:40]

They asked the fucking guy.

[00:12:42]

Well, I asked the fucking guy, and he said his name was Ketet Katchuk.

[00:12:46]

By Fulu Gillian.

[00:12:51]

I feel like we reference that and a lot of people-We tell the story every six months.

[00:12:57]

I freaking love that video still.

[00:12:59]

No, the Bob Cole one.

[00:13:01]

Oh, yeah. I think people have heard that story. If they haven't, they'll hear it again. We'll do it again. It's okay. It's all right. Just hearing Bob Cole is great.

[00:13:09]

Maybe we should save it for a VIP.

[00:13:13]

Here's the part I think you missed. The New Jersey, Nico Heeser empty net goal caused you to miss the other more important headline from the Senator's game. You see, Bradley Kutchuck was angry.Tukashk.Tukashk, yeah. He was He was angry. He was angry in April. And in April, he said, I'm done being eliminated in April. And that was April 2023. New Jersey eliminated the senators from playoff contention on Saturday night.

[00:13:46]

I didn't actually know that. When were they really wanting it?

[00:13:51]

That is the pièce de résistance.

[00:13:54]

I don't know if that matters.

[00:13:55]

Oh, it does.

[00:13:55]

I will say, I got a lot of time since Bradley K'Chuck.

[00:13:59]

He made a big quote about it, though. No, of course. Who doesn't love Bradley K'Chuck?

[00:14:02]

He is so consistently on nights where they look awful, the only guy trying.

[00:14:08]

Well, he's the only guy on that team that I wouldn't trade. On a million-earn. Yeah, I guess, obviously, you keep Sanderson, but It's pretty clear that Ottawa just let go of two of their pro scouts, two of the guys- They did? Yeah, over the weekend. I forget their names, but pretty big names that they let them go. The reason for that is because you look at Younes Corpasella's contract, you look at the makeup of this team. Basically, Pierre Dorian did a good job of building through the draft, but basically everything else is pretty bad. The Matt Murray contract, disaster. Corpasella contract, looking even worse. You look at the makeup of this team and you go, Got to build around, braided Kachuk. We have assets, but we're going to need a vision here. I think He is the way. He is the path to the light. He is the way that they're going to get better. But if they don't build a better team around him with people that want to win, I do see these guys as just a bunch of guys playing hockey.

[00:15:12]

I think Travis Yost said this. They're amateur scouting and drafting. Well, they have a few real bad flubs in recent years, but for the most part, pretty good. They've drafted well. They have some guys signed a really reasonable contract. Pro scouting. The guys that watch NHL games. The guys they've traded for, the guys they've signed. It consistently doesn't work. Yeah. It doesn't work. Pinto, Sanderson, Stutzela, K'Chuck, and making that ballsy bet with the draft pick and everything and having to decide to keep it or get rid of it. The Sends have done a good job making a base of young talent or creating a base of young talent, and I haven't even named them all. Boy, they cannot surround these guys with vets at all.

[00:16:11]

Well, so here's the actual update from @media_sends, which is the Sends communications department. That was not verified on Twitter. They did not pay for the verification badge.

[00:16:20]

It was never verified. It wasn't verified prior, if I'm not mistaken.

[00:16:25]

Even in the Jack, what's his face name? Or Ajeis? Yeah.

[00:16:29]

Oh, pre-Elon. Yeah.

[00:16:30]

Prelawn? Prelawn. Personnel update. Sends President of Hockey Ops and General Manager Steve Steehaus has announced the team is part of Waze with professional scouts Jim Clark and Rob Murphy. We wish them both the best and thank them for their contributions, Steve Steehaus.

[00:16:44]

That's it. And they're pro-scouts, you said?

[00:16:45]

That's right. And that happened on April 6. That's two days ago, Saturday.

[00:16:50]

Interesting. And I think that tweet was from before that.

[00:16:52]

No, no. No, no.

[00:16:54]

The Travis Yohs tweet that-Oh, yeah.

[00:16:56]

They released that at 5:50 PM an hour before the game that eliminated the Sens from the playoffs. Well, isn't that nice? It is. Now, this is not to completely trash the Sens, but I think the problem I've always had with them is I see a lot of words. I see a lot of quotes. I don't see a lot of follow-through from the players. Love the coach. We love the coach. The coach is the man. We're here for the coach. Play like shit for the coach. Get him fired. I'm crying, laughing on the bench. Same thing happens to me. I think the thing is that I feel like Katie Kchuck is Matthew Kchuck East. And what I'm saying is-We've had this conversation five times. It's him, and nobody else wants to play with him. And I just feel like you're doing this guy dirty.

[00:17:55]

It's funny. The trend of...

[00:18:00]

I feel like-I like Cloud Drew, too. I want to put that in there.

[00:18:02]

He's the best. Cloud Drew is a great pro. He was a good find. Good find, good content.

[00:18:07]

Wanted to be there. Good all of that. From the area.

[00:18:12]

I feel like divisions play like each other. You know what I mean? If you look at the Central, a lot of those teams play alike, and they and they collide and they play-Which is they're all bad. Well, but enough about the Pacific.

[00:18:27]

That, too. Oh, my God, the Pacific so bad.

[00:18:31]

Even the Metro, yeah, a lot of those teams are pretty mid, but they all play a similar style. The Metro is fun. Metro is pretty consistently fun. Atlantic's mean. It got mean. I think to survive in this division, you got to be mean. Dude, the least came to that realization before other teams.

[00:18:55]

We just can't do it without being mean. You got to be mean.

[00:18:58]

The Bruins are mean. The Lightning?

[00:19:00]

Mean.

[00:19:02]

Really underratedly mean. Panthers.mean.mean. And the least have gotten mean. The Sens have a really mean player.

[00:19:12]

And Griggs a good pest, and you need that.

[00:19:15]

Pest. Pest, though, like Marshawn, we've talked about this, he had enablers. Marshan, coming up in the league, playing the way Marshan does on a team that's not the Bruins, might have been flattened like a bug. Early in his career. But he had Sean Thornton and Adam McQuade, and Zdeno Char, and Lan Lucci, and Zdeno Char, and Llan Lucci, and Johnny Boychuck, and any number of just dudes who will kill you with an ice pick. Dude, they were a mean, mean team. And yes, Marshan became part of that. The Suns got braided K'Chuck and Mark Kastelik. They got to get mean. They got to match who braided K'Chuck is. And that doesn't mean take out all the skilled guys, Trey Batherson and Stutz. No.

[00:20:09]

Let them be them and surround them with some guys who can play hockey but also get mean.

[00:20:13]

It just makes it easier. It just makes their life easier. It makes it so much easier.

[00:20:19]

They're also going to need a change of goalie, Steve. This has to start with Corposal.

[00:20:22]

The sun was shining in his eye.

[00:20:24]

By the way, and we'll talk about this after we talk about the Leaps, how How do the Capitals lose that game? How do they freaking lose that game? I guess you just don't want to make it.

[00:20:36]

No, their strategy was we're going to shine the light in this goalie's face.

[00:20:41]

In his home arena.

[00:20:42]

Listen, here, do you want to get real tinfoil hat about this? Sure. I don't think it was an accident. It just happened to come through the one door that shines in the goalie's face. Not an accident. You're trying to make the playoffs.

[00:20:56]

Most, most, most, most, most, And the one curtain that was open just happened to blind the other team's goalie. During a scoring opportunity.

[00:21:07]

During a scoring chance.

[00:21:09]

Okay. All right. Okay. So obviously, it's a fun ride. I'm curious to see how creative Steve Steehaus gets because he has cards to deal. If Chikrin is not going to stick around, are you going to hang on to Shabbat? You got really valuable pieces that can really... Look what Winnipeg did in one trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois. That trade made them a better team this year, and nobody thought they were getting better. If you can manage a couple of those deals, and I understand that maybe they don't have the same market value that Dubois had last summer, Well, now, you can turn this around, I think, really quickly. The goal-tending thing is a real problem in Ottawa.

[00:21:52]

I think it's going to be a very busy summer in Canada.

[00:21:55]

Oh, yeah.

[00:21:56]

Ottawa is going to have a busy summer, and related. You know who's going to have a busy summer, and I think they're going to be making deals with Ottawa, Edmonton.

[00:22:06]

Interesting.

[00:22:07]

Because Steve Steeaus came from the Oilers. Oilers are also going to lose Ken Holland, Or at least it sure is heading in that direction, and Jeff Jackson is going to take over. So he'll have itchy feet. The offseason is when the oilers have to make their moves anyway. The sends are mad and grumpy and likely want to make a bunch of changes. I'm curious the role Ken Holland plays in all this in case he goes to another team because he might want some ex-oilers as well. I mean, he went to Edmonton, and what did he do? He did a bunch of old red wings.

[00:22:47]

Where do you think Ken Holland is going? Because it's pretty clear that he's not going to be back with the oilers. Jeff Jackson is taking over, right?

[00:22:58]

Yeah. Isn't he retiring?

[00:23:00]

Is he retiring? I hadn't heard anything.

[00:23:01]

Yeah, but hockey execs retire like professional wrest.

[00:23:05]

I would think he retires and they give him some advisory role because they have a million of those in Edmund.

[00:23:10]

That's true. I don't know if they have more. Do they have the most advisors per capita?

[00:23:14]

I don't know.

[00:23:15]

There's so many advisors.

[00:23:16]

I don't know those numbers.

[00:23:16]

Let me throw a fun one out there, Calgary, because he's a huge Hockey Canada guy through and through, and that's where they're based. Oh, okay. Calgary. The Hockey Canada connection starts and ends with Edminton because of Bob Nicholson. Yeah, it's a confusing relationship. I mean, he could do a senior advisory role in Detroit.

[00:23:37]

Yeah, I can see that. He's also not good.

[00:23:41]

Well, I hope he joins BerjaVan in LA and they get worse. Not because I don't like the LA case, but put them all together.

[00:23:48]

Adam, what didn't I tweet the other day?

[00:23:51]

What didn't you tweet?

[00:23:52]

I showed it to you and I didn't tweet it. Oh, is it the- I'm going to tweet it with my mouth.

[00:23:56]

Well, I was going to bring it up today if you wanted to. Well, Do you want to bring it up today?

[00:24:01]

Should we wait? Is that a tease?

[00:24:02]

It's a tease, but they're tied.

[00:24:06]

There it is.

[00:24:07]

Let me do the Ken Holland draftpicks thing. Oh, boy. This is from A. Hockey, 1993, Austin Hockey on Twitter. Seventy-four % of NHL first-round pics go on to become NHL-ers. Ken Holland's total draft pick's currently on Edmonton's roster, zero %. Percentage of Ken Holland's draft pick's currently in the NHL since 2014, 7.6 %.

[00:24:36]

Yo, that's crazy.

[00:24:39]

Ken Holland's not very good.

[00:24:40]

Now, some of you would say it's not the GM's job to make it. That's the scouting staff. But who hires the scouting staff? I think so. As a general manager, as Dubas likes to say, where does the buck stop? Yeah.

[00:24:53]

Dude, if you double that number. I know. If it's 14, 15%, they have a cup.

[00:25:02]

Connor McDave is going to have to choose. I think actually Jeff Jackson might be fantastic. We don't know.

[00:25:08]

What Jeff Jackson has done so far has been great.

[00:25:12]

Yeah, 100%. I don't know what he traded to get Zack Hyman 50 goals, but it's worked. That's crazy in and of itself.

[00:25:20]

Oh, he's going to hell.

[00:25:21]

Yeah. Oh, yeah.

[00:25:22]

He sold his soul 100%.

[00:25:24]

No, Zack Hyman, and we're not taking away anything from Zack Hyman here. We are huge, Zack Hyman fans. I think it's more like if there's been a better player with a worse general manager pair in the entire history of the NHL, I can't even see. I can't imagine it. You got to think, okay, so Gordie Howe had Jack Adams. Okay? All right?

[00:25:47]

You're going back pretty far for that one.

[00:25:50]

Wayne Gretszky had Glenn Sather. I don't even know who Mary Lemus general manager was for the first four or five years, but they were bad. They were bad. The Pens were bad. They just were. So maybe he's one of them. But McDavid's on year 10 or 9 or 10? No. He's coming up on a thousand points. Yeah, he was drafted in 15, 16 million.

[00:26:10]

He's going to hit a thousand before he turns 28.

[00:26:15]

Yeah, 2015, he was the first overall pick. So I look at this and I go, I feel like Connor McDavid deserves so much better than us.

[00:26:24]

Yeah, and I think now he might have the best president. I don't know what role he's going to assume once Ken Holland's gone. But right now, the President, Jeff Jackson, might be the best person ever for McDavid because that's his agent. That is the man who signed all of his deals and his buddy. So now the dude's in charge.

[00:26:41]

Do you think Jeff Jackson made more on Connor McDavid his contract in commission or more as the President and CEO of the Oilers because the Oilers want to keep Connor McDavid and pay him a fortune?

[00:26:53]

Probably get that.

[00:26:54]

I think you're overestimating hockey, Adam, because What do agents typically make?

[00:27:03]

3%? Yes. Apparently, guys like Darren Farris are a percentage below because that's their selling point.

[00:27:10]

If Jeff Jackson made 3% of Connor McDavid's contract-12.5.

[00:27:14]

Million, which is gross. They don't have escrow. They don't have any of that.

[00:27:17]

Yeah, but the whole value of the contract was $100 million.

[00:27:20]

So he made $3 million.

[00:27:21]

$3 million.

[00:27:22]

He might be making that per year as the CEO of the oil. Yeah. He had other clients, though, is my point. Oh, well, then, yeah. It's not like it was his... Like, Bedard's agent, that's his agent.

[00:27:32]

Oh, guys like him and Pat Prison. Oh, my God. Yeah, they made so much money.

[00:27:38]

No, it's crazy. I found out the other day that I think John Cooper is in the five and a half to six million dollar range. Yeah. He's the highest paid coach in the league.

[00:27:47]

Who should be higher-Nobody.

[00:27:49]

Not a single person. But is it-He really? Yeah. That makes sense. It makes total sense. I'm sure he drives players nuts, but who else has been to four Stanley Cups in this era?

[00:27:58]

Yeah. Year in and year out best coach, which is funny because year in, year out best goalie. But you know.

[00:28:06]

True. That is how that works. One begets the other. You need both.

[00:28:09]

Yes, 100%. I mean, that's probably the best season-over-season coach in the NHL.

[00:28:15]

I'm very curious to see what happens to the oilers over the next couple of years. It starts with Leon Dreisaitl. I want to know because Toronto is usually the place like, Well, are you going to resign? They don't need them.

[00:28:28]

It's not even the highest goal score on the oilers.

[00:28:29]

That's true. It's a good point. They don't need them. Think of what they could do with that $8 million in capital. Man, they could get a defenseman. Maybe they could.

[00:28:36]

Oh, it's fun.

[00:28:37]

Man, you know what? We're not so different, you and I. Yeah. It leaves Sonola.

[00:28:42]

How much do you think the top and and NHL assistant coach makes?

[00:28:47]

I'm going to say a million two five.

[00:28:51]

I'm going to say roughly league minimum, so like 750.

[00:29:00]

Steve.they're worth more than 750.Wow!

[00:29:03]

Really? I did not know the answer to that.

[00:29:07]

According to an ESPN article in 2022, NHL assistant coaches range from 200K to 750K at the high end. Well done, Steve.

[00:29:18]

Damn. There's assistant coaches out there that are making more than the league men guys because they don't have to pay escrow.

[00:29:27]

Yes.

[00:29:27]

That's a good point. Their take home is higher, although would assisting coaches be in the coaches union?

[00:29:35]

Yeah, I would think so.

[00:29:36]

But there's no escro is beyond union.

[00:29:38]

Union dues. Yeah, it's a little bit more.

[00:29:40]

I don't know if the coaches union quite works like that. It's just like a loose amalgamation of coaches that work together to get more money for themselves?

[00:29:47]

Yeah, I think the take home pay, if you're both making 750, the coach is probably taking home more of that 750.

[00:29:53]

Coaches would never have a labor dispute. They're not going to go on strike. They're not a formalized union. Well, maybe they should. I don't know. It seemed to be, Once you get to the head coach position, you make good money.

[00:30:02]

The other one- Head coaches for the other number is 1 million to 5.5 million.

[00:30:06]

I think the 5.5 is John Cooper, which makes sense. Yeah, there you go. The other thing I would say is you look at the coaching in football. It didn't somebody just sign with, was it Arkansas or Alabama, to be their coach for five years, and it's like 80 million or $100 million or something like that? Ncaa Hockey, the way it's going, those salaries are going to explode because the sport is exploding. What's that? Ncaa. The NCAA Hockey is the... Well, NCAA football, obviously, it's a huge moneymaker, so their coaches make a lot of money. But I wonder with NHL coaching, too, it's like you might have college coaches are like, No, I'm cool to stay here because there's way more money in NCAA.

[00:30:44]

Maybe the NCAA is what saves hockey because the NCAA, who's the greadiest institution ever, is like, We're not making enough money off this.

[00:30:53]

That's 100 % what's going to happen.

[00:30:53]

Let's figure out how to do it.

[00:30:55]

How do we make more?

[00:30:56]

Does hockey need saving? I feel like hockey is pretty good.

[00:30:59]

No, but I mean, no, it's funny. I keep saying, Oh, this is so bad, but also the product is the best it's ever been. Enrollment's down, and I'm down on the league, and viewership is poor, but the NCAA knows how to make money. And with that comes, you need to be popular, and they know how to do that and make that happen. They do.

[00:31:26]

No, you can't imagine the anxiety, right?

[00:31:53]

Imagine they had therapists 3,000 years ago to talk them through the sun disappearing.

[00:31:59]

No, they'd be like, Dude, I know. I know. I know. I saw it, too.

Steve, Jessie, and I got to watch it together, which was nice. Steve left his lucky couch.

[00:34:12]

For the third time in five weeks?

[00:34:15]

Yeah, it's amazing.

[00:34:16]

Steve Adams is never going to get over it. I'm never getting over it. I'm never going to put your lucky couch. What year was that? It was 2018, I'm pretty sure. You were used to come watch.

[00:34:25]

Man, there's so much good luck flying around in 2018, let me tell you. Yeah, you They lost. No, where is that couch now, by the way?

[00:34:34]

I think-Is it with your brother-in-law? Or is he still sleeping on it? No, because they have a new couch. I think we gave it away. You gave it away.

[00:34:42]

It was a comfy couch.

[00:34:43]

It was really It was such a good nap couch.

[00:34:46]

It was. I definitely slept over there and was hung over there. Now, let me say this. Leaves in Canadians. Only in Montreal can you lose 4-2 and still have two of the three stars be the Canadians. Wait, really? Yeah. First off, all three stars were Montreal Canadians. Max Domi was star number one. Can you name stars two and three?

[00:35:12]

Suzuki and Caulfield?

[00:35:13]

Suzuki was one of them. He was two. Who was three?

[00:35:17]

It wasn't Caulfield?

[00:35:20]

Jesse, any guess?

[00:35:21]

Brian Reeves.

[00:35:22]

No, it's Montreal Canadian.

[00:35:24]

Yeah, Brian Reeves.

[00:35:25]

Did someone have two assists? I don't know, Matheson. Matheson.

[00:35:30]

Mathieson. Oh, what the...

[00:35:31]

What? Michael Mathieson. He had two assists, so he got it.

[00:35:36]

He lost 4-2.

[00:35:36]

Yeah, but it's Montreal. No, that's how it works in every game.

[00:35:42]

I just thought it was funny. I laughed at that. I howled.

[00:35:44]

Get out of here.

[00:35:46]

Only in Montreal can you lose like that and roundly defeated. By the way, Matthews got his 100th point of the season. He is the only member of the core four who has ever gotten 100 points in a Leaps uniform.

[00:36:00]

That feels impossible.

[00:36:01]

Marner has had 97 and 99. That's so unfair. I know. Then he got injured this year.

[00:36:06]

He was going to be on track. He was 100% going to.

[00:36:09]

Neelander is four shy. His previous career high, I believe, was 89. He's four shy of 100 points. Tavares, I believe, got 94 in his first year as a leaf and then hasn't been quite at that level. Although, yeah, 94. No, sorry. Excuse me. 84, 88, 60, 50, 76, 80, and 59 this this year, so he's not going to do it. That's a lot of numbers. It's a lot of numbers.

[00:36:33]

Sorry, I thought you were talking about Neil.

[00:36:33]

My point is, Matthews has done it twice. He got 106 two years ago.

[00:36:38]

Unreal. 64.

[00:36:40]

Yeah, 64 goals. And it felt good. It felt good. Of course. It was one of those goals, though, that you're like, How did that go in?

[00:36:46]

I didn't think it was his. Then they show the replay. I'm like, You're a son of a gun. Savard.

[00:36:50]

Thank you, Savard.

[00:36:51]

Thank you, Savard. That's where the first round pick.

[00:36:53]

That's right. Now, let me ask you this about this guy, because obviously, it's very special what's going on, but the Leaps have more important things than 70 goals. They do. You got to win that first round series, and it's going to be a tough one. It's going to be either Boston or Florida, and it's going to be a mean series. Do you let Austin rest at all going into the playoffs, or do you let him go for 70? I don't-Sorry, do you force him to rest? Because I'm sure he won't want to.

[00:37:23]

You point to one Alex Ovechkin, and you tell Matthews, that's up to you. Do you remember a few years ago? Second last game in the season. Tell me about it. Ovechkin heads into the game. He's got 47 goals. Second last game, 48, 49, 50. Scores a hat-trick, gets to 50 goals. The final game of the season, he's a healthy scratch and literally signing autographs on the concourse. That's your mission. I think that decision needs to be made it now or have that decision already made. Austin, you're not playing the last game.

[00:38:07]

I think it's already decided because as we went over the schedule, it's a back-to-back. No way Austin Matthews is playing the back-to-back to finish the season. I I think-The whole thing? I wouldn't let him play either. I think you sit most of the roster on that back to back. Right now, at least got four or five. Matthews has five games left.

[00:38:24]

There are limits to who you can sit. I don't even know who they would be allowed to call up. But Jones, I think it'd be cool if he played both.

[00:38:35]

Martin Jones plays both? Yeah, I agree. I don't mind that at all. But as many Marlies as you can fit onto the roster, and then whoever's healthy scratch, you get them all in the lineup. That's how it's got to be. He's got five games left that I look at it that way. I think he plays up until that point, but that back to back, that makes no sense to play that.

[00:38:55]

No. I mean, it could. If there's something on the line Which there could be a game against Florida.

[00:39:03]

Really?

[00:39:03]

No, I don't think so. No. You've done your job right now.

[00:39:06]

If I'm Sheldon Keef, I tell him, Right now, you got five games left. It's not six, it's five. You're not playing that game.

[00:39:13]

I can make the argument for four.

[00:39:15]

You don't play either of those?

[00:39:17]

An added factor here is the ridiculous gap. I have no clue what the playoff schedule is going to look like. I don't understand it because, okay, forget It's like the Leaps who have a game on April 17th and the playoff start on April 20th. There are six games on the 18th, a bunch of them featuring NHL teams, a bunch of them featuring things that are going to affect the standings. How is any of that going to work? Even for the ticket purchasing public, a lot of people are going to have a 48-hour turnaround to figure out how to go to a game. You know what I mean? I really have no idea.

[00:40:04]

I still feel like it should be the 22nd. I don't know what they're doing. Just give everybody a little breather here.

[00:40:08]

I know I'm biased because my schedule matters, or this matters to my fucking professional and personal life. For other people, it's like, Oh, whatever.

[00:40:21]

The games will be when-It'll be Saturday night. There'll be a game on. Yeah. No big deal.

[00:40:25]

Yeah, but for me, I'm like, I need to book a babysitter.

[00:40:28]

I You're looking at your personal life here.

[00:40:31]

Yeah, it's frustrating. Every spring, Hey, Steve, are you available for...

[00:40:35]

I don't know.

[00:40:37]

Every spring, the final few games of the season, Stop inviting me to things.

[00:40:42]

I don't know. Last day of the regular season is April 18th. On that day, potential playoff teams playing. Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Colorado, Vegas, LA. Those are all teams that are active on that day. And then a couple of other teams that are going to miss, like Minnesota, Seattle, Calgary, San Jose, Anaheim, Chicago. They'll be in action as well. But those teams don't really matter at that point.

[00:41:04]

Without looking at the standings, Edmonton and Colorado could play, and then in theory, play a playoff series against each other. Two days later? I assume teams playing on the 18th will get an extra day. I think the start of the first round could be a frigging mess.

[00:41:23]

It looks like just based on this, that Toronto will be the-Saturday. The Saturday, and Edmonton is that Sunday. You know, they always offset some of the biggest Canadian markets. So it'll be Toronto's that first game, and then Edmonton's that Sunday. But I don't know how the lineup of Vancouver and Winnipeg, those series is.

[00:41:42]

You know what I just noticed? There's not a single Eastern Conference team. So the Eastern conference will start on the Saturday.

[00:41:49]

There you go. Interesting. Edmonton is back to back. That sucks. The 17th and 18th. Wow. So is Toronto. No, Toronto is back to back to 16 and 17. But I mean, to end the season, Edminton gets back to back, and that's the play on the Sunday.

[00:42:06]

And it's against Colorado, too. Well, nobody's playing for either team in that game.

[00:42:10]

Call up Campbell and Rodrieg to play those games. Like, dude, that's It sucks.

[00:42:15]

I don't think they can call up Campbell still. Can't they? Because of the salary cap, right? Oh, shit. Oh, you're right. They have to wait till the playoff if they want to have him as the third goalie.

[00:42:25]

That stinks. I don't get it. I'm fascinated to know what what the schedule is going to look like because you don't want the... No, you want to have a couple Eastern conference games and a couple of Western conference games every night to stagger it so that it's like Hockey Night in Canada every frigging night of the first round.

[00:42:46]

That's how it should be.

[00:42:47]

Yeah, it's the best. As a viewing experience, the first round is awesome.

[00:42:52]

With that being said, so we have three of the four Canadian teams that are going to be in the playoffs playing playing on the 18th. One of those teams will have to play on Saturday. Not necessarily. You think they're going to stack all of them on the Sunday?

[00:43:08]

No, they're going to... Leaps are playing Saturday.

[00:43:10]

No, the Leaps are, but then the other three play on the Thursday. So all of those? So are we going to have one Canadian team playing on that night and then all the other ones playing on the Sunday?

[00:43:23]

I think this is going to be one of those annoying years where a team plays game one and then the next night, some other series is going into game three.

[00:43:31]

Yeah, it could be like Vancouver, Winnipeg on the Sunday, Edmonton on the Monday.

[00:43:37]

It could be.

[00:43:40]

I don't have the foggiest.

[00:43:41]

I have no idea how they'll do it. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. It's really interesting. It's also stupid. It's also stupid. Let's get back to this game for a second here. Since we're going to leave the tease, I have it written down in my prep, but I'm going to leave it. A friend of the show, Eric Angles, called the Reeves Is that a matchup? A mismatch, which is interesting because there's a one-inch height difference and a couple of pounds.

[00:44:06]

It's not that crazy. One is 6'1, the other is 6'2, and they're like a 20, 15-pound difference depending on what weight you see online.

[00:44:13]

And they have fought before.

[00:44:15]

They have fought before, which I think a lot of Habs fans were missing. Dude, I praised him for the fight. Is that it? Yeah. From the first preseason game I saw of him, which I think was pre-COVID, I was like, That guy is not very good, and he's definitely going to play in the league because he's out of his mind. He's out of his mind. That dude fought Ryan Reeves twice and lived and yelled and chirped and screamed at him after. What a lunatic. What an absolute lunatic. Who would do that? Not a lot of guys. Michael Pizzetto would do that.

[00:44:50]

He would. I respect him. You saw him yelling for the bench. You only got me once. You only got me once. You're awful. And then the believe score, and you just see him look at... Just like F.

[00:45:03]

Reeves goes, Boom. And he goes, Fuck off.

[00:45:06]

Now, Reeves has got to stop fighting because that finger keeps getting cut open. I think he cut it open on his previous fight against a visor.

[00:45:15]

Who did he fight before Pizeta? He cut it open. It was last week. Oh, Tampa. Fucking Janot, the guy they traded.

[00:45:24]

Oh, yes. There you go. Tanner Janot.

[00:45:25]

Tanner Janot.

[00:45:28]

He's got to back it down a little bit. A lot of Habs fans on Twitter saying, Well, if Barber Jackai had been playing, but he wasn't.

[00:45:36]

He wasn't. But I agree with you.

[00:45:37]

Yeah.

[00:45:38]

If Jackai plays, that would have been the main event.

[00:45:41]

I don't think that their fight earlier in the year was the Jackai... Habs fans make it seem like he wanted... He fell over. I don't know.

[00:45:51]

Didn't he trip over the net? Yeah. Stop.

[00:45:54]

I think Reeves owes Jackai a rematch. Yes.

[00:46:00]

I agree.

[00:46:00]

We'll get one next season, I think.

[00:46:01]

Yeah, they need to go again. George Laroq was on Twitter. They were talking about it because some Leaps fans are going out and be like, Leris doesn't care anything about Arbor Jack. I was like, No. Georges Lerac is like, No, he definitely does. No, he owes. This is a thing. I was a tough guy. I know how this works. I was like, Yeah, probably listen to Georges Lerac about this stuff.

[00:46:20]

I don't listen to Georges Lerac'h on literally anything else, but this one I do. Really? If you have bad takes on this. I've never seen more bad French language takes than what Georges Corsal Rock puts on French radio, and nobody pays attention to it because it's French language radio. But the guy is like, Wow, I can't believe it. But when it comes to fighting, I trust everything the guy says. I had no idea. Baby, ask Canadian fans. Ask Canadian fans about Corsal Rock and his... I think, what's it called? What's the radio station? It's 8:10 AM, whatever they are. Sport AM or something like that. I don't know.

[00:46:53]

91.9 is what he's on.

[00:46:55]

It drives me nuts when they're like, Oh, yeah, you don't know about that?

[00:46:58]

No. No, I don't. I didn't pay enough attention. Adam's tapped in the Montreal local radio.

[00:47:03]

What there needs to be... Well, it's my... Because I put together the show outlines, right? So I'm trying to find outrageous stuff. And what there needs to be is like an auto AI translate of whatever George Leroy says that day. Because he says some crazy shit. Occasionally, it gets translated, and English people are like, Whoa, George Laroque said that? And all the people who are dual language speakers are like, Yeah, he says crazy shit all the time.

[00:47:27]

The worst is there will a tweet that's entirely in French, and someone will quote tweet it with, Yes, it's just another day. I'm like, What do you mean?

[00:47:39]

Let me in on it. I don't know what that first one said.

[00:47:44]

It's Just another day. You know, this guy again. Can you believe it?

[00:47:50]

No, I can't.

[00:47:53]

Because I don't know what he said because I didn't pay enough attention and I squigged by in grade 10.

[00:47:59]

You should have conjugated more of her verbs.

[00:48:00]

I should have conjugated all of them, but I didn't know.

[00:48:02]

Jesse, what do you got there? Nothing. Oh, I thought you had something up there. I thought you were ready.

[00:48:06]

What was supposed to get ready?

[00:48:09]

No, I was sorry. I apologize. I put you on the spot. I thought, I'm like, Jesse's got something. Anyway. I just wanted to say the retelling of the Jack-Eye Reeves fight from the beginning of the year, major Shelbyville vibes.

[00:48:25]

Oh, yeah. And that's where the heroes of Shelbyville rose up.

[00:48:29]

Yeah, Turnip juice.

[00:48:30]

Yeah. Let's all celebrate with a warm glass of Turnip juice. They fell. Stop.

[00:48:35]

Yeah. And listen, I like it. I like the fact that there's chirping back and forth. I like the fact that Sends fans and Lefs fans are at each other's throats, whatever. It will be... Eric Angles wrote an article that he thinks because they lost again yesterday in second half of a back-to-back bad team. But he said that this, he said, Canadian is nearing the end of the low point of the rebuild. It actually It does feel like that. It feels like Ottawa doesn't feel like it's at its end. Montreal feels like, I think next year, they're going to take a step forward.

[00:49:09]

I still think all the teams at the bottom of the Atlantic take a jump.

[00:49:13]

You said that last year.

[00:49:15]

I did. You know what?

[00:49:16]

And the year before, Ottawa-specifically.

[00:49:18]

I was mostly right. I was way wrong about the sentence. Detroit took a jump, Buffalo took a jump. Not as big as Bigo, but they didn't finish second in the freaking division. Well, Montreal, not so much. They keep getting hurt.

[00:49:36]

Yeah, that's a problem, too.

[00:49:37]

They're the most hurt team in the league.

[00:49:38]

And they always are.

[00:49:39]

They always are. That's a weird identity. Yeah, they always lose it. Their identity is we always have to pull from our ECHL team. That's weird.

[00:49:48]

I also think that there's an opportunity for them this summer to make some noise. You talk about, I think Eastern Canada is going to be very busy. I don't know if Lee fans are prepared for this, but I think it's going to be A monumental summer for the Leifs.

[00:50:02]

A huge summer for everyone.

[00:50:03]

Oh, yeah. Well, not for everyone. But not for... But not like, this is... I think we're going to see franchise altering stuff this summer.

[00:50:12]

Depending on how the playoff's go. Yes. If they win a couple of rounds, I think everyone's like, Oh, bring it all back. Bring the band back together for the 40th year in a row. Yeah, but you can't. If they win some stuff.

[00:50:24]

Yeah, but you don't have the dough.

[00:50:25]

No, they have the dough for next season. The guys are already locked up.

[00:50:28]

Yeah. We know for Bertuzzi is not going to be back because he was never going to sign here in the first place.

[00:50:33]

I don't know that.

[00:50:35]

My wife is such a- I refuse to know that. She has fallen in love with Tyler Bertuzzi, and she's like, Every time he scores a goal, she's like, He's going to stay, right? I'm like, He's not going to stay. I don't think he's going to stay. I'm just enjoying it if it happens.

[00:50:48]

I'm going to live in blissful denial.

[00:50:49]

Max Domi, I think, wants to stay, has wanted to stay, wanted to come here in the past. I think he'll stay. But yeah, they're going to have some holes to fill. I think it's going to be fascinating.

[00:50:59]

And You know what I'm saying, they're sticking together. If they win, I'm not talking about Tyler Bertuzzi. No, you're talking about- Those aren't franchise altering moves. They didn't have them even last year. Oh, you mean the core? I mean the core.

[00:51:10]

No, sorry. I thought you meant like, Oh, they're not going to trade compf.

[00:51:14]

You thought that's what I meant? Yeah. When Adam said franchise altering moves.

[00:51:19]

It's not what I might extend Holmberg.

[00:51:20]

This is where your mind went.

[00:51:22]

I meant something else. Anyway, I do want to say this, okay? Leaves are taking on the charging Pittsburgh Penguins tonight. Jake Gensel was apparently the thing holding the Pittsburgh Penguins back. Maybe Jake Gensel sucks. Have we thought about that?

[00:51:38]

He's been the best trade deadline acquisition in terms of points.

[00:51:41]

Well, why are the penguins all the time?

[00:51:43]

He's been on fire.

[00:51:44]

Who's second? Michael Bunting?

[00:51:46]

Honestly, in points, they might be like one and two.

[00:51:51]

I want to say we learned something very upsetting this weekend.

[00:51:56]

What did we learn?

[00:51:57]

Because in the CJ show group chat, I said, Gensel getting traded was to Cydney Crosby what Krillin getting killed by Frieza was to Goku, which if you're a Dragon Ball Z fan, is a really, really, really good analogy. Cj goes, I don't know what that is.

[00:52:18]

I could see that.

[00:52:19]

Yeah, you realize he didn't grow up at the same time? Yeah, he didn't.

[00:52:22]

He's old enough.

[00:52:23]

Dragon Ball Z is older than I am. It just had a renaissance in the late '90s, early 2000s or whatever. Cj doesn't know what Dragon Ball Z is?

[00:52:35]

He realizes everybody's not Steve Dangle.

[00:52:37]

That's right.

[00:52:37]

How do you live a life? How do you make it to 40 and a little bit up and not know what Dragon Ball Z.

[00:52:45]

No show has taken- We got different experiences in our lives. Oh, you're wrong.

[00:52:49]

No show has taken one episode's worth of content and stretched it over a season better than Dragon Ball Z.

[00:52:55]

He does all that running. You've never ran by a Goku poster.

[00:52:58]

I love I personally love 20 episodes of him doing workouts in the Gravity Chamber or something like that.

[00:53:08]

I also love that.

[00:53:09]

For the fight that happened an entire year later. It was just stupid.

[00:53:12]

You're not even going to talk about the Yelling saga. Where he said, But then the next episode, it was an octave higher. You're not even going to... You don't appreciate the classics.

[00:53:25]

Like I said, the pens are charging. If they beat the leaves tonight, they in over the Red Wings. The Red Wings play tomorrow night. They beat the lightning this weekend. I want to ask you, Flyers, how do you lose 6-2 to the Blue Jackets? Man. Capitals, how do you lose to But I know you got your point. How do you lose to the senators when you're supposed to be trying... What's that? The Tired Sense. The Tired Sense. The sense played the night before.

[00:53:52]

And traveled.

[00:53:54]

Outrageous. You guys don't deserve it. You don't deserve it. The Islanders- Who does? Guess who picked the islanders to be third in the Metro division? Was it you? That was me a couple of weeks ago, and they are. I don't know what I picked at the beginning of the season.

[00:54:09]

We're going to do that on the last day of the regular season, that Wednesday. Or no, that Friday podcast, we'll do that. I can't wait. We'll go back to our preseason rankings.

[00:54:20]

Now, nobody's far out of anything, right? Because the Penguins, the Caps, and the Flyers all have 83 points. The Islanders have 85. The one thing is that the Penguins, the Caps, and the Islanders have a game in hand on the Flyers. So the Flyers have put themselves in a really, really bad spot here.

[00:54:36]

So all those teams you mentioned, with the exception of the Flyers, if they win out, the maximum they can get is 93 points. That sucks.

[00:54:46]

Yeah. Wasn't there a cutoff? One point where to make the Eastern Conference play-off, it was near 100 points.

[00:54:55]

It was ridiculous. No, it was completely ridiculous. And do we I think any of those teams are going to win out. The Flyers almost have to.

[00:55:04]

The Penguins are on a four-game winning streak already.

[00:55:08]

It really is just about getting hot at the right time.

[00:55:12]

100%. And the Red Wings, What's your excuse, man? Dude. You better start winning. They won their last game, but four, four, and two in their last 10. Do you want to make the playoffs or do you not?

[00:55:23]

They got Alex Lyon back. It's like none of them are really playing well. It's going to come down to who's playing well, and right now it's Pittsburgh.

[00:55:31]

I think it's going to be Islanders, Pittsburgh. Now, on my updated standings, that's what I think. I think Pittsburgh wants it real bad. And I have been down on Pittsburgh all year. I respect the hell out of what's going on with the Penguins right now. It's crazy. Now, how do the penguins match up? Let's say they do beat the Leaps tonight, which would be very leafy. I hope they don't. But let's say they got to play the New York Rangers. The New York Rangers will be almost 25 points up on them when the season ends, right? How do you feel like those teams match up?

[00:56:02]

Pittsburgh, New York.

[00:56:03]

You can't select any of the teams that take that third spot in the Metro or the second wild card spot. I don't think you can select any of them to win. Against the Rangers? No, first round series against anybody else.

[00:56:14]

The Silence The difference you're hearing from me is me talking myself into an upset.

[00:56:18]

I think you're more likely to get an upset with Tampa, Tampa and Boston, if they play each other.

[00:56:25]

Which isn't an upset.

[00:56:26]

I don't think that's an upset.

[00:56:27]

Well, if you look at the differential in points, you're what? 12, 13 points?

[00:56:31]

Yeah, but no one... You have to respect the factor.

[00:56:35]

I know, but the Kutcheroff line has been a plus five total this year in net differential. It's not great.

[00:56:41]

Okay, so you're going to try and take something away from the guy who's going to win the hard trophy.

[00:56:47]

Kuturov... I don't know that he should. It is valid to say Kuturov is on the ice for a lot of goals against. He is. It's valid. Okay. Oh, no, that doesn't matter then. Getting outscored doesn't matter. Got it. I think the original point here- Well, hey, fuck. The Leaps won the 2017, '18, '19, '21, '22, '23 Stanley Cup. Getting outscored doesn't matter.

[00:57:14]

I think the original point here is that if Tampa beats Boston, it's not an upset. And trying to spin some weird take that Kucharov isn't that good.

[00:57:24]

Isn't that good? That's not what I'm saying. And by the way, I'm saying it It would be an upset. I'm saying it would be an upset. Absolutely, it's going to be an upset. Tampa beats Boston. Bruins fans are going to hit the roof, and they should. Boston should steamroll Tampa.

[00:57:39]

Well, second year in a row, you lose to a wild card team.

[00:57:41]

Yes.

[00:57:42]

But it's Tampa. I think all I'm trying to say is Tampa is very good. I agree. If they go into a series with the Boston Bruins, they can easily win that. But if I'm looking at the Philadelphia Flyers against New York Rangers, I'm not picking the Flyers. We were unanimous with the Tampa thing. But I can easily pick the Lightning over the Bruins.

[00:58:04]

Could you pick... Could you see, let's say the Islanders, Jesse, finishing that second wild card spot? Tampa has locked up their playoff spot, by the way. There's only two playoff spots left. Third in the Metro, second wild card a lot. If it's Islanders, can you see the Islanders just going full smother on the New York Rangers, preventing them from scoring? No.

[00:58:26]

They're minus 23.

[00:58:27]

Based on what we've seen at the Islanders, it would be really shocking.

[00:58:33]

There is a...

[00:58:35]

Because I'm convinced the Capitals and Flyers to get run over. The penguins...

[00:58:40]

There's a 76... Wait, I'm stupid. Is it 76 goals is the differential between the Islanders and Rangers? Because you're technically adding 53 and 23. Yeah, 76 goals. Yeah.

[00:58:54]

Holy shit. Yeah. Well, look at the capital differential is 94.

[00:58:58]

Oh, my God.

[00:59:00]

New York is at plus 53. Reinders, sorry, capital is at minus 41. So I guess what I'm saying here is that does New York essentially get a buy into the second row? No. Have we agreed that- No, because- Does it go beyond four games?

[00:59:15]

They are NHL teams competing in the NHL playoffs. Anybody can be anybody at any given time. Every victory is a hard victory when it comes to the Stanley Cup playoffs. It's ridiculous to say it's an automatic buy.

[00:59:27]

What are we going to learn? We said that about Boston last year. We said that about Tampa in 2019. We got to learn.

[00:59:36]

I have another question.

[00:59:37]

Is it as stupid as the first one?

[00:59:39]

Looking at the standings before we move off too quickly. The Buffalo Sabers finished last season with 91 points. They did? Yeah. Remember, they had that late charge and they just missed the play-off. I think it's a little bit of a step back. I know we were talking about that earlier about them taking a step forward. It's a little bit of a step back from where they were last year.

[00:59:58]

I'm so I'm surprised and disappointed, and I'm sure their fans are, too.

[01:00:03]

If we're talking about stepbacks, the biggest stepback in the most disappointing season, I think from any team in the NHL is the New Jersey Devils. Oh, man. There is a playoff spot sitting right there the whole season for you, and you're sitting there with 79 points.

[01:00:19]

Not just missing the playoffs, missing the playoffs this year. Yeah, bad.

[01:00:24]

Last year was so impressive what all those young guys did.

[01:00:28]

I think next year will be impressive. Yeah. You get Dougie Hamilton back, you figure out your goal attending. That's a great deal.

[01:00:34]

You got a new coach. You got a new coach. That'll be such a big boost for them.

[01:00:38]

If none of Detroit, Pittsburgh, Washington, or Philly win any of their remaining games, Buffalo can make it. Or no, New Jersey can make it. Sorry. Buffalo, too, technically. So that's all that needs to happen.

[01:00:54]

It's true. I forgot to bring this up in the Senator segment, but I still want to bring it up. Not all coaching changes are good coaching changes. This is where it's been interesting. Travis Green, it's interesting what's happened in New Jersey. I'm curious about what is going to go on in Buffalo. The Senator's coaching change has not been great. The Senator, since January first, have allowed a league where it's 153 goals. And so what's going to be interesting this year is it looks like... Because it's not a great free agent class this year in terms of players, and I'm not going to go through all the players that are free agents right now. My point is, I think it's going to be an interesting and great free agency coach year. I think if you're a coach going into expired deal or you just got fired or whatever, you have the opportunity to make so much money because you got to think. You got to think about... I think Buffalo's, they got to be looking at that, right? They got to be looking at it. You got to be considering it. Detroit's got to be considering it.

[01:01:57]

Detroit misses, you have to consider it. Pittsburgh won't because Mike Sullivan's new extension kicks in next year.

[01:02:03]

Also, look at them. Yeah, they're charging. Dude, they can't defend. I know that Tampa game, the warm and fuzzy, and they end up winning. Holy shit, that team can't defend.

[01:02:12]

No, that's been the problem all year. But there's some teams where I'm like, You know who should have a job?

[01:02:20]

It's a shame that he got fired earlier, that he's not coaching them right now.

[01:02:25]

Bruce Buitra? Jay Woodcroft. Oh, my God.

[01:02:28]

Jay should have a job.

[01:02:30]

If I'm one of these teams that just had a disappointing year or fired my coach or whatever, Jay Woodcroft's got to be at the top of the list. He's got to get an interview for every open position.

[01:02:39]

It's totally about how you look at it. Number one, he had the best winning percentage in Edmondson Oiler history. Number two, holy shit, were they right? They nailed it. Look at them. They've been one of the best teams in the world since that firing.

[01:02:56]

Would the Oilers have turned it around anyways?

[01:03:00]

It's possible.

[01:03:02]

There's no way that McDavid would have been that McDavid.

[01:03:06]

Mcdavid was scoring at the lowest pace of his career, I think, including his rookie year, and they couldn't get a safe.

[01:03:13]

It feels like Todd Richard is in the Blue Jackets before Torrance took over. A little bit. You know, like, he was the worst goalie in the league. And then Torrance is there, and then Barbarowski is the greatest goal tender wins the Fesna. It was some guy stepping in, whereas this is the guy who was winning a billion games with them. I think his biggest mistake was sticking to the defensive scheme he was trying to make them play. They didn't have the talent to play that scheme, right? They just didn't. And so you look at what happened is immediately when Noblek steps in, Evan Bouchard is a candidate for Norris, right? Not for his defense. Not for his defense, but that's okay. It's not like Eric Carlson ever won a Norris trophy for his defense. Totally. I think the thing is, Jay Woodcroft is going to be a good fit on a team that's smart defensively. You look at the jump that the Oilers took when Dave Tippet gave way to Jay Woodcroft, right? Because Tip, that was pretty embarrassing how bad that Oilers team was. Do you remember that, 2019? How bad that team was?

[01:04:20]

And then Woodcroft takes over and all of a sudden, they're this amazing hockey team? Yes. Yeah. Woodcroft's a good coach. It's just he implemented a bad system. He paid the price.

[01:04:28]

I liked his process process in implementing because I think what they wanted to do was go to the defensive zone hybrid system. And the zone hybrid has been the most effective defensive system in the NHL recently. Like the Vegas Golden Nights who run that and the Colorado Avalanche, their most recent Stanley Cup champions, they've been very effective at running that. So I understand why he went there, but he didn't have the horses to do it, and he didn't abandon it soon enough, I guess.

[01:04:54]

Kael Maker changes that.

[01:04:56]

Kael Maker.

[01:04:57]

Can I make an observation with the Senator situation?

[01:05:00]

Sure.

[01:05:01]

Jacques Martin. I was looking at his last head coach job. It was 2012.

[01:05:06]

Yeah, it was a stupid hire.

[01:05:08]

That's a very long time.

[01:05:10]

He should have never been the interviewer.

[01:05:12]

Coney. We were talking about Coney 2012.

[01:05:13]

Yeah. At the end of the world, Jesse. At the end of the world.

[01:05:18]

That was the start of Obama's second term. That was a very long time ago, man.

[01:05:23]

A lot has happened.

[01:05:24]

I was living in Calgary. That's a long time ago.

[01:05:28]

Long time ago. Well, actually, he was 13, 12, and 7, which means he was canned, which means... No, it might have been 2011, and he was replaced with Randy Cunnyworth.

[01:05:40]

Jay Woodcroft would be great in Ottawa. Oh, you might Yeah, I like that. I think he'd be a good fit.

[01:05:48]

Maybe. I like that, and I like the way he stands. Me too. He really pops that butt when he stands.

[01:05:53]

I've told it before. I'll say it again. We were in Montreal, and he happened to be at the same bar as us, and he was standing at a pool table, and he was doing the stance, and I was like, Oh, he's doing the thing.

[01:06:04]

Jacques Martin was brought in there to like, smash heads together, get everybody to play like smart hockey and everything. It seems like that just not worked at all.

[01:06:13]

No, this team has been very ready for the season to be over for a long time. Yeah. I mean, could they not have been in this wild card conversation? We keep saying, Oh, those frigging Metro teams. They could have been in it, too.

[01:06:31]

Yeah, easily. It's like the points to get to just into the conversation of, Hey, if you go on a streak here, you can make the playoffs. It's so little that it's sad that Ottawa couldn't be in this fight right now.

[01:06:44]

I'm looking. They have one point of game player.

[01:06:49]

Who's that?

[01:06:50]

Tim Stutzler. No, wait. No, they don't. They have zero point of game players. He has 70 in 75. It It feels like they have way too much talent for that to be the case, especially with everyone scoring a billion points these days. Scoring has gone up, and they can't do it. I don't get it.

[01:07:10]

How many points does braided have?

[01:07:13]

68 in 76.

[01:07:15]

Damn.

[01:07:16]

Dude, no one. No one's even really close other than Drew.

[01:07:20]

And Juru, what's his goal total? Is he like-21. 21?

[01:07:24]

K'chuck has 34. Batherson has 27. Wasting a pretty good season from him. Kuba This week has 11 goals, but only 15 points in 72 games. No, it stinks. Top to bottom, it stinks. An 890 save percentage from your starter because your backup is an 885.

[01:07:44]

Boo. I thought Anton Forrestberg would be so much better than what he was this season.

[01:07:48]

He previously has been.

[01:07:49]

Because of what he's demonstrated so far, and it's been disappointing.

[01:07:52]

I honestly believe they could show up next year with the exact same team and be better. Just everything's gone wrong.

[01:07:59]

We did say that towards the end of 2023. All right. Yeah.

[01:08:04]

But not losing your first-round pick and your second-line center or your third-line center for 41 games. Yeah, it can help. I want to say a couple of things here. The first thing is Andrew and Stew are back. If you're into... If you want to talk masters, they're doing a full preview episode. It's already out, so check that out. If you want to add free versions of the SDP, you can get that. 699 through YouTube, and then Spotify and Apple. It's actually a little bit cheaper right now until we raise the prices on June first. Rip us off. But that only works if you buy the year-long subscription, though. You got to buy the year-long.

[01:08:37]

Yeah, you can lock in the price right now for the year-long subscription, or you could just do the... What do you do? You could do one month in May for the cheaper price.

[01:08:45]

Yeah. There are tiers, by the way, that you can get just the VIP episode if you want to pay for that, 3.99 on YouTube. Youtube allows us to tier things.

[01:08:55]

Someone sent me a screenshot of their year-long purchase on Apple, and they're like, successfully ripped off. Ripped you off. And I was like, Good. Keep ripping us off.

[01:09:06]

We deserve it. Can we talk about our shirts?

[01:09:08]

Oh, we have them. Yes, Jessie, please.

[01:09:11]

We got a nice shout out on the LFR. I was watching that and I was very pleased.

[01:09:15]

Wow. Did Steve Dangle mention us? Yes.

[01:09:17]

You guys are really going to pop off now.

[01:09:20]

Oh, damn.

[01:09:21]

Look at D. As the leafs clenched a playoff spot on Friday, despite not even playing, we released our clenched merch. If you go to stpnshop. Ca, you'll see we have three different designs of our clenched shirts. We got the X. Love that. The X clenched.

[01:09:43]

You don't have to get black.

[01:09:44]

The regular... Oh, yeah, there's a couple of different colors there. We got the Playoffs clenched, the Steve Dangle podcast, a little X, and then we got the clenched Corgi.

[01:09:54]

The Corgi? What's the Corgi?

[01:09:55]

The clenched Corgi is our new favorite mascot.

[01:09:58]

Why is there a Corgi?

[01:10:00]

Because he's clenching his butt. Where did you find this?

[01:10:03]

How did you make that?

[01:10:04]

Clenched Corgi clenched his butt, and it says clenched, and there's a little X, so that's CPM. All right. The clenched Corgi has been one of the favorites that's been done. Why is that the case?

[01:10:12]

Maddie likes that so much. Maddie's like, Oh, that's the one. It's the Corgi that is clenching his butt.

[01:10:17]

No, I was just saying place my order. Yeah, there you go. Adam's hate on the clenched Corgi.

[01:10:23]

The clenched Corgi.

[01:10:25]

Corgi is actually my favorite dog.

[01:10:27]

They're so cute. They're a good dog.

[01:10:28]

Yeah, absolutely.

[01:10:29]

Adam hates them.

[01:10:31]

No, I like Corgies. I like Corgies.

[01:10:33]

They're fine. Stpnshop. Ca. Get your clenched merch. It's also I'll put in the description.

[01:10:38]

Clench.

[01:10:39]

The other thing we should say is that we got a special delivery today. Oh, yeah. You want to do that now? Yeah, let's do that now because this is really something that we all share together. And by us, I don't mean me, Steve and Jessie, and everybody else at this network. I mean you who have liked and subscribed for years and years and years. You've been around forever. And told all your friends. And told You did tell all your friends, and we appreciate that.

[01:11:02]

Just give me a second.

[01:11:04]

It's okay. I'll tap in. Use your keys. One thing about this is that we didn't know how the process worked. And so it took us several months to figure it out because we passed this milestone, and then we probably forgot about the thing that you get when you pass the milestone, right?

[01:11:20]

I did not. I was just polite and didn't say anything.

[01:11:22]

You didn't say anything? No, I remember. Okay, we all forgot. Yes. And so what I'm talking about here is Sdpn crossing 100,000 subscribers, which was a big deal. It was a big deal for us. And we really appreciate you subscribing to the channel. And Jessie is now officially pulling out the YouTube plaque that we forgot to claim because you got to claim it. So this is what it comes in. It's an unboxing video. Here we go.

[01:11:46]

How you know it's a sturdy box because Jessie has the strongest hands in the world.

[01:11:50]

Here we go, Jessie. All right, let's see.

[01:11:51]

Go to three camp. There you go.

[01:11:54]

All right.

[01:11:55]

Are you unboxing? This is our YouTube plaque. Oh, Oh, we got a signed note? It comes with a thing. Take that. There you go. You can read it. Read it out to the people.

[01:12:06]

[01:13:26]

Because this is a very nice piece of paper. It's It's good stock. Yeah. So we're going to frame that.

[01:13:33]

So Steve, as you said, you should do the honors. You can take it. I didn't say that.

[01:13:36]

I said, Can I do the honors?

[01:13:38]

Just do the honors.

[01:13:40]

Yes. Take it out.

[01:13:41]

Do the honors.

[01:13:41]

Show everybody. Show the world.

[01:13:44]

Wait, how do I open this?

[01:13:45]

No, it just slipped out the bottle. Oh, yeah. There you go. Oh, okay.

[01:13:49]

I wasn't sure if I had-There you go.

[01:13:51]

Show the world.

[01:13:52]

Show the world.

[01:13:53]

So that's thank you to everybody that's ever worked here. Thank you to everybody who is currently and who will work in the future and everybody who is subscribed. Thank you so much. It's very cool to get one of these. Very cool.

[01:14:09]

Yeah. No, this is incredible. This is such a cool moment. Yeah, and it's all about the subscribers, the actual 100,000 of you that subscribe to this channel. This is for you. This is freaking awesome.

[01:14:22]

Yeah, very cool. Now we got to go for a million.

[01:14:25]

You all got to touch it. It's like the cup.

[01:14:27]

Yeah. You all like the cup.

[01:14:29]

Do we get I need to drink out of it?

[01:14:31]

No. No. Why not?

[01:14:33]

Yeah. If I put beer in the top and I chug it. I don't know.

[01:14:38]

Here, wait. I think the OCD listeners are going to love this. Instead of paint.

[01:14:44]

There.

[01:14:44]

Just cover up the ding that way.

[01:14:47]

For anybody who listens to this show on the background of the set where we sit, Adam made a little scratch mark. I did.

[01:14:55]

People are very upset about it.

[01:14:57]

It's quite disturbing. They're right.

[01:15:00]

Are they right? I don't know if they're right.

[01:15:02]

I think this is fuller. You think they're right? I think this is fuller part 2. Stop it. You have the right to complain about the little scratch mark. It is annoying.

[01:15:12]

Well, I will fix it before the play. How does that sound? I will fix it before the play.

[01:15:16]

You sound upset. I am.

[01:15:17]

It's ridiculous. They made me bring it up on a live stream, too. I was like, What?

[01:15:21]

Everybody talks about it because it's a little...

[01:15:23]

They're like, Is it still there?

[01:15:25]

Here we go. I'm so happy. Great. Amazing.

[01:15:29]

Let's do the press conference. Hey, you have to put it down. No, I don't.

[01:15:33]

You have to put it down. No, I don't. You're not my dad. The Steve Dangle press conference.

[01:15:39]

We're talking a lot about playoffs. And one thing that we should bring up. I was tagged in to bring up, I should say. Lauren O'Shee, the partner of T. J. O. Shee. Is it Lauren O'Shee's fault that the Capitals are going to miss the playoffs? Lauren O'Shee posted on her Instagram story, We're looking for a seamstress local to the DMV, or the Capsplay, who could help with 25-ish playoff jackets. Oh, no. Looking for a quick turnaround. Please DM if you know of anyone. Since that Instagram story Looking for playoff jackets. The Capitals are now 0, 3, and 1, and have been outshot 17 to 7 since. That's from Travis Tuthill, @capstrav, Travis. Outscored. What did I say? Outscored. Outscored. Sorry.

[01:16:48]

I was like, Man, those are low event games.

[01:16:49]

No, I outscored 17 to 7 since that.

[01:16:53]

I have to be honest, yes. I didn't want to say that. I didn't I don't want to say that, but Lauren, come on. What are we doing here?

[01:17:03]

Lexie Lafleur is a really good follow on TikTok. She's the partner of JT Brown.

[01:17:10]

Yes, she's funny.

[01:17:11]

She was talking about...

[01:17:15]

She talks a lot about wag etiquette and everything.

[01:17:19]

So wag is wives and girlfriends or whatever. And I guess, what is it? Lauren?

[01:17:25]

Lauren O'She.

[01:17:26]

I guess she's head wag. You're right. Because She's in charge of, Oh, I got to get us all jackets. She's doing such a nice and caring thing. Yes. Everyone's like, It's her fault. That's so brutal.

[01:17:39]

It's all in Jess, but also she might have jinks the capital.

[01:17:45]

But also she won a cup there, so maybe go easy.

[01:17:50]

Could the Caps also just not be very good, and they're in a race of some pretty bad teams?

[01:17:56]

Maybe. Maybe she's the one who opened the curtain.

[01:17:58]

No, it's true.

[01:17:59]

Trying to distract Corp.

[01:18:00]

Listen, they're all bad. They're all bad. Whoever makes it, they're bad. We just talked about it. They're bad.

[01:18:07]

I can't wait for them to sweep. Oh, it's going to be great.

[01:18:10]

No, the Rangers.

[01:18:12]

Or the Rangers. Or the hurricanes. Whoever goes in or If there were hurricanes, if the two, three.

[01:18:16]

Oh, yeah, that's true.

[01:18:18]

They could just jump into that three spot. Because the Metro team's got to get in there. Yeah, absolutely. All right, so this is from @PaulAllen'sCard. Should there be a rule against players passionately kissing in front of the net to to distract goalies in a man-evant situation.

[01:18:32]

Sean Avery would. Sean Avery would have done anything to distract the goalie. No, I don't think there should.

[01:18:38]

I don't think so. I don't think they should. They should allow that, right? They should allow it. I assume it's allowed.

[01:18:43]

As long as it's between teammates, right? You can't just passionately kiss the other player.

[01:18:47]

That's interference. Yeah, you can't do that.

[01:18:50]

Or it's a stern talking to to Brad Marshan. Don't lick him again, Brad. Don't lick him.

[01:18:56]

And then he'll sign a couple of sticks for you.

[01:18:58]

Well, Brad, yes. Brad licked a member of the other team.

[01:19:02]

That's what I mean.

[01:19:03]

Yeah, you can't be doing that. There's no rules about licking your own teammates. You know what I mean? Even licking their tongue. You know what I mean? You know what I'm saying? I don't think there should be a rule against that.

[01:19:16]

No, and I'm pretty sure it'd be allowed.

[01:19:17]

Yeah, and here's what I want to say to the NHL, Try it, cowards. If you don't try it, you're a coward, aren't you?

[01:19:23]

Technically, you could reenact a skit and do a dance in front of a goalie as long as you're not just putting your hand in front of their face like Sean Avery was, broader.

[01:19:32]

You can do anything, really. You can do anything. I know, I know, Tumbler's pretty much dead because of what the changes they made. But if you're on Tumbler, that's a fan fiction. You can write right there.

[01:19:43]

Oh, baby.

[01:19:44]

We would have that animation before the people. All right, this one's from @lceldo. Where's the fucking son? They write to us.

[01:19:56]

Yeah, so this goes into a question I was going to ask during the main show, but I saved it to the press conference. My question, which I think proceeds Adam Lceldo's question, but they work together, is, does anyone give a shit about this Eclipse?

[01:20:10]

So, yes, they do. And I actually have a funny story from family dinner last night.

[01:20:13]

Tell me.

[01:20:14]

So the in-laws got-What were you eating? What did we eat? It was really good. There was like a pistachio cheesecake at the end of it. It was beef. It was prime beef. Oh, With Yorkshire puddings.

[01:20:31]

Oh, wow.

[01:20:31]

Very British. I mean, they're Brits, right? Yeah. Gosh, they are. Yorkshire puddings and the hot mustard.

[01:20:37]

That's some good stuff. All right, continue. Thank you. Fat guy corner. Fat guy corner.

[01:20:41]

I have four or five Yorkshire puddings. Anyway, Anyway. But I walked there. So anyway. They have all these Eclipse glasses, but they were saying they don't work. They were upset because they don't work.

[01:20:57]

The eclipse isn't on.

[01:20:58]

Well, I was like, What do you mean they don't work? So I put them up to my eyes, and they're like, Well, you can't see anything. I was like, Well, that's interesting. I can't see anything, like nothing, not even the faintest anything. I go right up to the kitchen light wearing them. I still see nothing. It's just black. They're like, Yeah, see? They don't work. I go, I have this wild idea. I'm going to go outside and look at the sun. They work perfectly fine.

[01:21:30]

Maybe because they're for the eclipse.

[01:21:33]

They're meant for the sun. They actually work so well. You put them on, you look at the sun, even without the eclipse, you can see the solar flares. It's actually really freaking sick if you have eclipse glasses.

[01:21:46]

Important to know that you have no pain receptacles in your eyes, in your retinus. If you are looking at the sun, you'll never feel the damage happening. You know how you have nerve endings? If I were to pinch it, Yeah. If I was to put... You'd feel that, right? You will not feel it with the eyeballs thing. That's why people are so freaked out about it. There are some people that are like, I'm going to look directly at this for sustained minutes.

[01:22:09]

Okay, so I don't understand how the eclipse gives you eye damage, but just a regular summer's day doesn't. Is it that it's easier to look at so you don't realize?

[01:22:19]

I think that's what it is.

[01:22:19]

You're not supposed to look directly at the sun ever.

[01:22:22]

Well, I know that. Yeah, but I don't know, you ever get curious? You ever forget what it looks like? You want to remind yourself?

[01:22:30]

Maddie, if you want to bring this up, this is the image that's been going viral last week or so. This is the Airbnb book. Oh, my gosh. Pop-up.axios.pop-up ads. I'm trying to look at this image. All right, this is Airbnb bookings across the United States. That dark line is more bookings, the darker it gets. And that is the exact line where the eclipse will be on. To answer your question about, do people care? Yes. Millions and millions of people really care about this eclipse.

[01:23:01]

It won't happen again for another 444 years. I don't know.

[01:23:04]

I want to see it.

[01:23:06]

You can't.

[01:23:07]

You're not going to see it at all. You're not going to see it's cloudy. You're here. It's going to happen in like an hour.

[01:23:12]

Yeah, I know. Well, what if you booked an Airbnb along that strip? So you're just boned then.

[01:23:21]

Well, yeah, you would be boned.

[01:23:22]

Well, you booked an Airbnb to look at the sun for a few seconds, and you're not even going to be able to because-Oh, because of the cloud?

[01:23:28]

I assume it's not It's cloudy here in Toronto, but I assume it's not cloudy everywhere.

[01:23:33]

You never know.

[01:23:35]

I don't know if the entire line is cloudy.

[01:23:37]

The whole frigging line.

[01:23:38]

I think a lot of these people will be fine.

[01:23:40]

The whole line. Listen, this is a solar eclipse. There's been earthquakes. There's been volcanoes. Just something's happening. We don't know where P.

[01:23:48]

D. Something's going on. But if someone in your family sits you down and goes, You'll never believe what happened during the eclipse. Your answer has to be, I bet I can.

[01:23:56]

Adam, you are like, anti-eclipse. You think it's Justin Trudeau's fault.

[01:24:02]

Oh, yeah, for sure. He did this. This is the reason the carbon tax is in.

[01:24:07]

No, I just feel like- I knew it.

[01:24:08]

I knew it. Yeah. No, I just think- No, but honestly.

[01:24:11]

Listen, it's all a conspiracy from Big Sun.

[01:24:13]

I can understand why three 30,000 years ago, people were fascinated by them. Now I'm like, I'll Google it. If I'm outside and it happens to happen, great. I'll Google it. But it's cloudy. It's really gray. You can see how the weather... You can see the neighbor's basketball net through the thing there. See? You can see the neighbor's basketball net. Great. It's gray.

[01:24:33]

You're not going to see it. Do you want a hot stock tip from a guy who doesn't invest in stocks at all? Any eyewear company, any company that does like LASIK or sells glass-Right after this. Do you know how many dumbasses are going to look straight at this eclipse, even though the only thing most people know about eclipses is that you're not supposed to look at them? And they're going to ruin their vision forever. I think that's a good call.

[01:24:57]

Go after it. Get those LASIK things. What else we got, Jesse? Question was, what else we got?

[01:25:02]

You'll Google it.

[01:25:03]

Well, it's not that. They moved a PA day so that people wouldn't be driving.

[01:25:10]

There it is. We found a way to get pissed. We found a way to get pissed.

[01:25:14]

Everly is at home.

[01:25:15]

No, she's... The daycare is still open. Oh, daycare? Okay. Yeah. She's in school daycare. It's just the...

[01:25:21]

She doesn't even get to enjoy her day off.

[01:25:23]

Well, no, because I have to work.

[01:25:25]

Cool fun dad. All right. Don't let that. Yeah, no, you're right.

[01:25:31]

Yeah, I don't know. It's like people were making a huge deal of it.

[01:25:34]

I'm like, I just- I guess it's a bigger deal. Well, 3,000 years ago, you think the world is ending?

[01:25:40]

Oh, shit. Oh, shit. And you wouldn't even know it was coming? No. It would just happen one day.

[01:25:46]

Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I saw a tweet that said, If this was 3,000 years ago and the earthquake happened and then the sun disappeared, the entire time. What did I do?

[01:25:58]

I'm sorry.

[01:25:59]

I'm sorry. The entire village is going inside. Well, do you know how many animals would be sacrificed? It'd be crazy. What is it? The Romans used to sacrifice a bird and look at its entrails before a battle to see if it was a good time to attack or not. If the liver says this, so during one of their battles, I think it was a Roman battle or was it Alexander? Anyway, one of their battles, an eclipse happened and people fucking lost their minds.

[01:26:26]

Yeah, they would have thought it's magic.

[01:26:28]

God is looking at us. You know what I mean? That, to me, is the coolest part of the Eclipse. How does this affect people that don't know what's going on?

[01:26:36]

It's like accidentally locking eyes with a stranger except the stranger's God.

[01:26:40]

Yes. And they all would have been staring at it, too, by the way. Oh, yeah.

[01:26:45]

Yeah. You know how many people went blind? I saw something funny recently. It was like, how many of past illusions were just people who needed a glass of? Yeah.

[01:26:54]

Oh, yeah. They were all invented. A lot of history glasses, didn't they? Yes. They were all invented like the 30 years following an eclipse. It's dude, it's possible.

[01:27:04]

Oh, man.

[01:27:05]

They couldn't see.

[01:27:07]

I don't know. If there's interesting reasons why I should be interested in an eclipse, please leave them in the comment section or compliment section. I would love to hear.

[01:27:15]

But I'm just not that- I want to hear from people who went to an eclipse. Did you go to Nicaria Falls? Because that's a big... There's a million people going to show up at Nicaria Falls. Did you go to the next Eclipse party?

[01:27:26]

That's crazy, right?

[01:27:27]

You don't have a soccer field near you? Why do you have to go to Niagra Falls.

[01:27:30]

You want to be on the line. Niagra Falls is on the line.

[01:27:33]

It's not about being at the Falls.

[01:27:36]

It's about being- Although that would look beautiful. It's about being on the line, and Niagra Falls happens to be on the line. The go train, our local major public transportation, sends special trains today that go directly to Niagra Falls.

[01:27:47]

See, now that makes sense because there are people... People are asking for it. They want to go. They ask the guy. The reason, though, that I find it weird is that people ask in the first place. There are people that chase eclipses. If you're I'm chasing tornadoes like Twister, I get it. So much ruinage. That's fucking crazy, man. What a cool experience that would be.Casing in a cliff.Casing in a cliff. I'm like, Okay. I'm like, What? I just feel like, Am I taking crazy pills here?

[01:28:14]

What is this?

[01:28:15]

Who cares?

[01:28:17]

Who cares? Millions of people.

[01:28:19]

Millions. Oh my God. What rock's going to get in front of the sun for 30 seconds?

[01:28:22]

I'm so crazy about this. What?

[01:28:26]

Adam, it is a miracle. A miracle of the Cosmos that the moon is... Wait, what? How does it work?

[01:28:33]

I don't know where the clips were.

[01:28:36]

It's something like the sun is 400 times larger than the Earth, and the Earth is 400 times larger than the moon. So that's why they line up perfectly, something like that.

[01:28:47]

It's not going to happen again for a long time.

[01:28:49]

It's never going to happen again.

[01:28:51]

Not our life. But who cares? I can Google it.

[01:28:53]

Well, you're a piece of garbage.

[01:28:55]

You're a piece of crap. Do you remember the blood moon?

[01:28:57]

Do you guys remember the blood moon?

[01:28:59]

The blood moon?

[01:29:00]

Where the moon turned red?

[01:29:01]

No, I don't.

[01:29:02]

That was cool. That was 10 years ago.

[01:29:05]

Why? I don't remember that. All right.

[01:29:06]

Adam is part of the pro- Moon lobby.

[01:29:08]

Yeah, that's what it is.

[01:29:10]

Because Justin Trudeau is anti-Moon. That's right. Adam's pro-Moon.

[01:29:13]

Of course, you love the red moon, you lib. God, that's the best to me.

[01:29:20]

We're going to play a game of point per game from Miro, @MiroNorris, requested we play it, but we'll play it next episode. Okay. We went a little long on the Eclipse Star.

[01:29:29]

Well, I mean, it's the story of the day.

[01:29:32]

He doesn't care.

[01:29:34]

What would we do without entire news reports devoted to something like this? I would love to hear from Sid and know what percentage of BT this morning was just the Eclipse. You know what?

[01:29:47]

I'll text him right now.

[01:29:47]

Well, the rest of it was him missing a ball on a tee.

[01:29:50]

Yeah, that wasn't me.

[01:29:53]

I would rather the news talk about the Eclipse than me be on the DVP today going, What Whoa, what? Help. Because that's what's going to happen.

[01:30:03]

Apparently, a lot of animals are going to be really messed up because of this. Yeah.

[01:30:07]

Because they're all going to think they're dead.

[01:30:10]

I don't know how any of this works, but cicadas that were underground for a hundred years.

[01:30:16]

Yeah, they're like every 27 years.

[01:30:18]

They're coming back out, I guess 27, not 100.

[01:30:20]

Not 100 at anything.

[01:30:21]

They're coming back out from underground because the moon's going to disappear. The sun will disappear for 10 seconds.

[01:30:28]

Yeah. So the cicadas There are two groups of periodical cicadas. I'm looking at the CBS news. They emerge every 13 years, and some emerge every 17 years. For most of their lives, they live underground and then emerge. Once the soil reaches 64 degrees, they are expected to arrive by mid-May, and there will be cicadas all across the US and Canada this year.

[01:30:52]

So does that have to do with the Eclipse?

[01:30:54]

I have no idea.

[01:30:55]

But I saw a TikTok that told me that the Eclipse was the reason the cicadas were coming.

[01:30:59]

Cicadas Oh, well, there's the problem. Can it have the music?

[01:31:04]

Okay. Okay. No. Okay. Newsweek, over 100 trillion cicadas to emerge after the solar eclipse. Imagine you've got the earthquake, you got the fucking... You got the solar Eclipse A zombie bug. A hundred trillion cicadas. A zombie bug.

[01:31:17]

You're a hunter-gatherer a thousand years ago or 3,000 years ago. You're like, What the fuck?

[01:31:22]

They weren't unsophisticated. They just didn't know what was going on. If I didn't have the news, I'd be like,.

[01:31:29]

The sun is gone.

[01:31:31]

The ground is shaking. I thought they went extinct 13 years ago, and now they're all back.

[01:31:38]

Oh, by the way.100.

[01:31:39]

Trillion of them.

[01:31:39]

The cicadas are the eclipse.

[01:31:41]

They are. But what's crazy about this year with it... Hold on. It doesn't tell me why. Shortly after the upcoming Solar Eclipse, another rare site. So they're not related. They're not related. But what's interesting is I told you they were 13 and 17-year cycles. This year, both cycles line up. It's the first time in a long time, and it won't happen the end until 2076. So we're getting double secated.

[01:32:03]

So it's going to be a real loud summer.

[01:32:05]

The Eclipse isn't making them come out. No. Okay.

[01:32:09]

No.

[01:32:09]

Yeah, it is.

[01:32:10]

It's not- I saw a TikTok that I misunderstood.

[01:32:13]

And that is how I'm going to go forward.

[01:32:16]

Experts believe that Brood X-I-X-So you're spreading misinformation. Brood X-I-X, which is Roman numerals. I don't know what number that is, which operates on a 13-year cycle and nests across a swath of the mid-south from Southern Iowa to the Carolinas, and Brood X-I-I-I, which is nine, which arises every 17 years and nests between central Illinois and Wisconsin, are due to appear at the same time. It is thought that this coincidence has not occurred since 1803.

[01:32:43]

X-i-i-i is 13.

[01:32:44]

When they do emerge, based on previous outings, cicadas will cover fields and houses in their pathway, and they'll shed their exoskeletons and produce a noise that rivals a jet engine because there's so many of them. Brood XIX has already been observed creating bore holes in the ground in Georgia, suggesting the sworn is about to come out of hibernation and spread across the Southeast United States.

[01:33:06]

The sworn is about to... I'm wearing a Starcraft shirt. It sounds like the Zerger invading.

[01:33:12]

With the emergency coinciding with that of the other brood, which historically occupied a smaller area, You would have more than anywhere else at any other time. Paula Shroosbury, who's an entomologist at the University of Maryland. Periodic cicadas don't do subtle. So according to another biologist- That sounds like a threat. They said, This year could easily be in the hundreds of trillions or even quad trillions, which is a trillion trillions.

[01:33:43]

Damn.

[01:33:43]

That's how many there will be.

[01:33:45]

Less money than Elon.

[01:33:47]

Yeah. Yeah. Does Cicada still have more?

[01:33:50]

Got to figure out how to make money.

[01:33:55]

Okay, so Sid texted me back. He said it was 60, 40 Js. Rest was Eclipse. So 60 Js. Forty Eclipse.

[01:34:06]

There's two topics all morning. That's what I'm talking about. Blue Jay's Home Opener Eclipse.

[01:34:10]

And it makes sense, right? Because there's interest, but why? Do we ever stop and just go, but why? Because who? If this was a town crier, a thousand, 2,000, 3,000 years ago, or Hannibal is invading, and oh my God, the sun disappeared, I'm interested. It's like, that is news. But we know it's like this rock is going to be here at this time.

[01:34:34]

People want to witness it because it's not going to happen for 400 years.

[01:34:38]

I can't wait for you all to sit down with your family members that saw the Eclipse and trade Eclipse stories. Hey, did you know that the At exactly 3:30, this rock passed in front of the sun. Oh, man, that's crazy. That all of that- This rock. That happened to me, too, because this rock- The moon. Passed in front of the sun, and it was crazy.

[01:34:55]

He called the Moon, this rock.

[01:34:58]

Oh, man. It's crazy how our clip stories are exactly the same.
