Back to back with Travel, the game starts 23 hours after the Saturday Night game against the Oilers.

[00:02:02]

After the Saturday Night game began.

[00:02:05]

Yeah, which I think is what I just said. Yeah.

[00:02:07]

No, you said after the... Sorry. What I mean by that is the game itself takes like 3 hours. Yes. So it's like 20 hours.

[00:02:14]

Yeah. Oh, okay. After it ended. Yeah, for sure. The thing is that the Leifs did something really sneaky and smart. Martin Jones was on the bench for them, but they sent Joe Wall to Carolina and said, Why don't you just hang out here and get Can I put my tinfoil hat on immediately?

[00:02:33]

Someone is going to go to the league and go, whee, about that.

[00:02:37]

I don't know what you can do about that. You should be able to do whatever you need with your roster players.

[00:02:41]

The Leifs got in shit for flying a prospect from Europe to North America during the offseason on their dime.

[00:02:51]

You're not allowed to do-Yeah, because there's rules in the CBA for that. There's no rules in the CBA for sending a player ahead of time. So you're thinking- Do we know that for sure? Yeah. So this would be a collective bargaining issue. And do you think the next negotiations, they stop this? That doesn't make sense.

[00:03:06]

Well, I don't know. You're complaining about flying a prospect to your own practice facility in the offseason. Why wouldn't someone wha about this?

[00:03:17]

I think you're being a little pessimistic about that.

[00:03:21]

Yeah, but the pessimism is based in reality. The league is full of just leach teams who are an absolute drag on the sport and league. I would not be shocked at all to see someone complain about that.

[00:03:36]

Adam, did you expect to get hung up on Joseph Wall flying to Carolina?

[00:03:40]

No, but I do think it's an interesting point because there was- Someone's going to wind. Was there not the least for making their practice facilities available? I wasn't listening because something else came in. But yeah. I do see some way coming up, but whatever. They can do what they want. And he was their best player? He was. That's really the story of this that I want to talk about is how solid he was. By the end of the third period, Carolina is close to 40 shots and Toronto is maybe pushing 25. It was lopsided.

[00:04:11]

They caught up a bit towards the end, but that first period was murder. I think it was 16 to seven. Jake McKay did not have a good first period at all. No. But they figured it out and they made it a game. I had a tweet in the LFR video that was very optimistic that I thought encapsulated the game perfectly from Anthony Petrelli, who I usually like his opinions on the leaves. If that's supposed to be the class of the East now, the leaves should feel pretty good about where they are at. Wolf kept them in the game, and they didn't outplay them, but nowhere near their best versus a rested team at home and had a chance to tie their late. Can't win them all.

[00:04:54]

Is Carolina class of the East?

[00:04:57]

They're a point out of the President's trophy right now.

[00:05:00]

Like seven other teams.

[00:05:01]

Yes. There are seven teams-We're going to get into this later. That are at 97 or 98 points. Right. Okay. They're one of them.

[00:05:09]

That's good. It was good for Carolina, considering their goal-tending issues this year.

[00:05:14]

And how good was Freddie. He was great. As much as Joseph Wolf saved the Leaps, Freddie saved the Hurricane. I want to say this-It was a great goalie duel.

[00:05:21]

For Hurricane's fans, his blood clot issue, you never wish that on anybody, but it may have prevented him from playing too much, which is Something is something that's always been an issue for him. He will never give the net up willingly. Well, they've needed goal tending. They have. And I think the fact that he's what now, 10 and one on the year. He's having a great year, and he's rested. I always wondered what rested Freddie Anderson would look like going into the playoffs for the Leaps, and he looks fresh. And if you just keep him rolling, if you have a hot goal during a goal tender going into the Stanley Cup playoffs, usually teams do really well when that happens.

[00:05:57]

It really does feel like winning the Stanley Cup is like what? One-third managing the regular season properly?

[00:06:07]

No. And managing key players properly.

[00:06:09]

It's a quarter managing the regular season properly. It's a quarter understanding the rule book and getting away with murder. It's a quarter just getting hot at the right time, and it's a quarter being the best hockey team. If you're in the playoffs, that puts you in the quarter. You know what I mean? Anyone has a shot. Cam Cheron, used to work for the Toronto Maple East, now he works for the Pittsburgh Penguins, had a quote when he was still a blogger that I love dearly.

[00:06:46]

The best- Justin Hall is actually good.

[00:06:48]

No, I don't think he ever said that. Well, you might. I don't know. I think he did. But the best team in hockey rarely wins the Stanley Cup.

[00:06:55]

And I think we know that. I think the tournament, what's great about the playoffs is a Is that because if the best team always won, then what's the point of watching?

[00:07:03]

It's harder to be the champions than the best.

[00:07:08]

Yes.

[00:07:08]

And a lot of people are going to think that's just wordplay. One day you'll understand. It's harder to be the champions than the best.

[00:07:18]

Now, we had Saturday night, Leaves versus Oylers. Steve does a stream. It's a big game. It's a big game. It's a huge game. It's a big game. And one of the things that we're looking out for early is, will Zack Hyman get his 50th goal against the Toronto Maple Leaps? He was too shy.

[00:07:32]

It was either by the end of the first period or the overtime winner.

[00:07:37]

Right.

[00:07:38]

Like, we all knew.

[00:07:39]

Well, we all felt like we knew, but he didn't. He got one. He did get 49.

[00:07:43]

He got one.

[00:07:44]

But he did not get 50. I think it's so weird, right?

[00:07:49]

Who did he get his 50th against?

[00:07:50]

I don't even know. The Sens.

[00:07:52]

Yeah, the yesterday. He's still a leaf.

[00:07:54]

He's still a leaf, damn it. Buried against them.

[00:07:55]

I think what was great about this game is I feel like this team finally recognizes when a big game is a big game.

[00:08:06]

That was a playoff game.

[00:08:08]

Well, and I think it stems from, and I'm going to go all the way back to their first meeting against Boston, where Lilligren gets injured and Treleving and Keef have to go in before the next game and go, This is not acceptable. You have to physically respond to these guys. All of a sudden in the intermission panels on Hockey Night in Canada, I'm hearing the oilers have got to get tough or against the Leaps.

[00:08:31]

Which I'm not used to watching the Leaps not be the second toughest team in a game, and I'm not used to watching the other team and go, Do something. I couldn't believe the instincts I was having. I saw some people criticize Darnell Nurse for the penalty he took at the end of the second period for going at Joel Edmondson. I think that was a great investment for the rest of the game because Edmondson was a pain in the ass.

[00:08:59]

Well, you saw the cross-check on dry-sidal, right?

[00:09:01]

He was such a dick to dry-side all night. And when he had some time to spare, he went after McDavid, too. Yeah. No, it was awesome. The Lefs, they have Guys who are tough, who will block a shot with their face and neck, like Simone Benoît. They have guys who will truck you, like Jake McCabe. What Joel Edmondson is, is someone who makes your night long. They make your night shit. They make showing up to work a nightmare, and they just haven't had that. Who, especially on the back end, could you say the Leaps have had in recent years? Who's anything like that?

[00:09:45]

I think my best comparable would be a Roman Pollack, but I don't think even he was that physical.

[00:09:51]

No.

[00:09:52]

He could throw a hit, but he wasn't like...

[00:09:56]

Bogosian? It's been a long time since they've had someone who understands... Listen, cross-checks are an art.

[00:10:06]

They are. At least getting away with them, right?

[00:10:09]

There's a way to do it, and there's a way to not do it. Connor Timman showed you how to not do it. He took a cross-checking penalty. But there's that clip of Edmondson on dry-sideal, and I'm watching it, and I'm like, Yeah, no, they don't call those. They don't call those in the playoff. There's something about having enough push in a brute force cross-check where they're like, No, it's a push off, instead of just ramming a guy.

[00:10:37]

Yeah, which is often what it looks like.

[00:10:39]

Which is, yes, there's such a subtle skill to it, and the least get jobbed by it every single year. And this is one of the biggest, if you can't beat them, join them, trades I've ever seen, except it's him joining the team that he beat.

[00:10:56]

Jesse.

[00:10:57]

Yeah.

[00:10:57]

What did you think of Bobby McMahon and Pontus Holmberg?

[00:11:02]

Oh, it's great. What a luxury the Leifs have finally gotten to have somebody outside of the core four scoring. They got four goals from Pontus Holmberg and Bobby McMahon. It's a miracle that they're in this position.

[00:11:17]

Two Marlies. Two guys who played with the Marlies this year.

[00:11:19]

Two guys who weren't like, Hey, we got them at the trade deadline, and now they're scoring all this stuff. Two guys just developed and came up through the system. It's been a magical run for McMahon in particular, who's just been like, since that point in January where he went off with the hat-tricks, he's been unbelievable. This is what they've needed for years is depth scoring. If they get this in the playoffs, it's going to be a lot of fun.

[00:11:43]

Can I say something here since no one's listening? Sure, yeah. We're all friends. A Jets fan friend of mine wanted me to tweet this, and I'm not going to because I'm waiting. I'm biding my time. But with those two goals, Bobby is now two goals back of Pierre-Luc Dubois. Oh, wow. Bobby McMahon is two goals back of Pierre-Luc Dubois in 25 fewer games. Well, I think 24 now because of Carolina yesterday. Yeah, buddy. I'm going to wait until he ties him because he's going to, and then I'll tweet it out right now. But now no one tell anyone this, okay?

[00:12:23]

I feel like it's a disservice to how Bobby McMahon has played because Pierre-Luc Dubois has been that bad. Bobby McMahon has played really, really well. He's got 15 goals. Wow.

[00:12:32]

Which is fine. For not an eight and a half million dollar player.

[00:12:37]

We had no T. J. Brodie for the second game in a row. And I do think it's important to hear Sheldon Keefe again saying, We want him to clear his head. We know he hasn't been himself. Now, they did put Reilly Brodie back together last night against Caroline. Very briefly. Very briefly. Did see it, though. But no huge warts.

[00:12:57]

We left those chocolate cupcakes my in-law's. That's why I didn't do the bit. And I'm not going to. I don't want to.

[00:13:03]

Well, you might have to. No. Did you guys see the defense a little bit more like you wanted without TJ Brody there? Do you think that they can live without him?

[00:13:14]

Unfortunately, Essentially, so, yeah. Reilly Bush is a good pair. Edmondson Lilligran. Lilligran threw a frigging hit last night, like a good one. Who pissed in his cornflakes? What? And Then Benoît and McCabe. You can keep trying things that aren't Benoît and McCabe. I'd prefer it if you stopped because that's clearly the answer. And that leaves Brody without a dance partner. But last night in the LFR, I think I got it. Last year, the Leifs gave basically no indicator that they would go 11-7. And then it was basically, All right, the playoffs are tomorrow, and we're going 11-7. I think they're going to do that again in these playoffs. I think they're going to go 11-7. I don't know who they take out of the lineup.

[00:14:04]

Didn't they only do that in the deciding game against Tampa? I don't think they started game 1 to 11-7, did they?

[00:14:09]

I don't know how many games in the playoffs they did it. They did do it in the deciding game. I know that because of that. Everyone went to hug Tavares, and the first player to hug Sammie was Eric Gustoveson, who I missed very much and took a UFC elbow to the face this weekend from Sam Reinhardt. Maybe we'll We'll talk about that a little bit later. But having those pairings and then using Brody sparingly in special situations, I don't really see a problem with that. Or do you need to give, I don't know, Noah Gregor seven minutes a night that badly?

[00:14:49]

You know what I mean? Yeah, it's a good point. But again, I asked with TJ Brody, okay, so you're going to play him as your seventh defenseman. With whom?

[00:14:57]

Well, great question. You Sparingly with McCabe, sparingly with-Is he a good penalty killer anymore? I don't think so. Not at all.

[00:15:08]

So that's where my question is. It's like, okay, that's great that you can do that. And I get Noah Gregor or nick Robertson. When Yarn Croke and Marner are back, those guys are probably the most likely to leave the lineup.

[00:15:19]

Maybe in a game, you're trailing. Okay. Because you don't want the fuck on... Like, Riley Brody in a game, you're trailing. I can accept. I don't love it. Not at all. But if you're down, too, with five, six minutes to go- You got to cheat offense. Well, do I want Benwa out there? Do I want Labushkin out there? Do I want Edmondson out there?

[00:15:41]

Probably Lilligren.

[00:15:42]

You would like Reilly, you would like Lilligren. Maybe McCabe, and you'd probably want Brodie, and that gives you two pairs.

[00:15:54]

No Bertuzzi on Saturday night as well against the Edmondson oiler. So Domi draws in finally at PP1. Finally.

[00:16:02]

That's such a good win.

[00:16:04]

It was a good win.

[00:16:05]

They were so shorthanded.

[00:16:07]

Yeah. And then, of course, later on in the game, he gets into a fight with his dad in attendance, and they happen to catch somebody trying to be like, Hey, Ty. People are- And Ty looked like he was going to jump across the aisle at the guy. Leave him alone.

[00:16:22]

I saw someone say, Why wasn't he in the alumni suite? Or something. Fuck you. That's why. I want to watch from my seats. Leave me alone. Leave me alone. I know I'm Ty Domi. Leave me alone. Listen, you want to say something to him walking by, Hey, Ty, go leaves, or whatever? Yeah.

[00:16:40]

Love that for Max.

[00:16:41]

Only being drunk. Could make you want to make body contact with Ty Domi. Against his will.

[00:16:54]

Also, that is annoying. You tried that. Yeah. Why are you just doing that? It's annoying.

[00:17:00]

Oh, dude. You introduced me to Tiedomi at something. I don't remember what. It was at the least practice facility. I don't remember what the event was.

[00:17:11]

Some alumni game or something like that. I think you were in.

[00:17:13]

I don't remember what it was. But he still has this way of looking at people, where I was convinced he was looking at me, trying to figure out how many bites it would take to eat me.

[00:17:29]

But that's not how he in real life.

[00:17:31]

No, I'm not saying he's a bad guy. He's a pretty affable guy. But there's a prehistoric... There's a look you have to have. Bob McGill, who owns one of the most unbreakable records in the Leifs franchise, which is penalty minutes by a rookie. Jesse, can you look up what Bob McGill had in terms of penalty minutes as a rookie? It's like 300. I worked with him at Leifs TV, and he used to talk about every time he went on the ice, he was the baddest man in the league. He was the baddest man in the planet.

[00:18:10]

Is that how he saw it?

[00:18:12]

Well, he's like, you have to...

[00:18:13]

Oh, my God, 63.

[00:18:15]

Two, 60. One goal. One goal in 68 games.

[00:18:21]

Which is down from his WHL total of 295 the year before. Look at that shit.

[00:18:26]

Wow. So wait, wait, wait, wait, wait Okay. So okay, okay. Two, 263, divided by 68 games. He had 3.86 penalty minutes a night, which means he's fighting like How many fights must he have had? A lot of fights.

[00:18:48]

A lot of fights.

[00:18:49]

25, at least? Yep. Holy cow. No, but he talked about, and you might be like, oh, there are guys tougher than him. Yeah, but in your mind, in your heart of hearts, every time you hop over the boards, you have to think you can beat your opponent. And that's the era that he grew up in. That dude started playing in the early '80s, and he played into the '90s. What a bunch of basically criminals. He took the ice with each and every night. And he had to believe, you have to believe you're the baddest man in the league to even lace up your skates. Because But otherwise, what are you doing? Ty Domi was the baddest man in the league. He didn't have to convince himself. He had trouble, I read this in his book, Shiftwork. He had trouble sleeping before games, and He would say to himself, What's going on? My adrenaline is not going. I'm not afraid. I know I'm probably going to have to fight tonight, but I'm not afraid. What's going on? And what it was is he would carb load with two bowls of pasta for lunch And after he finished playing, he got diagnosed with a gluten intoler.

[00:20:04]

No way. Yes. Wow. So this dude is trying to have a pregame nap. He's eating food he's allergic to and then going out and fighting someone who has six inches on him and beating the fucking wheels off of him.

[00:20:18]

That's nuts.

[00:20:19]

And I would never think to tap that man on the shoulder is all I'm saying.

[00:20:23]

Yeah. And listen, Max, him and Yammer really went at it. There was a real That's a hustle there.

[00:20:30]

Boy, that was a lesson in Fandam because I saw Euler's fan saying, well, Ty was mad because Max lost that fight. That's a lesson in Fandam. I'm not a big chirper when it comes to, oh, you see blue-colored glasses or you have orange-colored glasses. You must be on drugs or just be the biggest fan in the world to think Yanmark won that fight.

[00:20:55]

Yeah, he didn't win. Holy cow. It's not even worth it. It's not even-Also, you don't need to make assumptions on what's going on in Tiedomi's brain at the moment.

[00:21:03]

You see him for two seconds on a television screen.

[00:21:06]

And he's getting annoyed by something. You don't know what he's thinking.

[00:21:08]

I think he's thinking, Don't fucking touch me. Yeah. But it could be something else.

[00:21:13]

He's on for 0.2.

[00:21:15]

It happens on a TV. My dad got his autograph for me. My dad used to work at the buildings downtown on the path. I think it was either the Cadillac Fairview building or the Eaton Center. And he met Tiedomi, and his son's a big leaf fan. So he took the only thing that he had, which was this little agenda in his pocket. It's signed like 1996. I got to find it somewhere. And he said he shook Tiedomi's hand. And he's like, I don't know if he... My dad never talks this way, but he's like, I don't know if he felt like he needed to do it this way. But he shook my hand and it was like a vice. Oh, wow. My dad has never said that about another human being.

[00:21:57]

Your hand disappears in his hand when you shake his hand.

[00:22:00]

Yeah. My dad is like every boomer man. He thinks he could win every fight ever. He thinks he's Jack Reacher. But then he met Tidomi and he realized, oh, maybe not.

[00:22:10]

Do you think, and for the oilers' part, they mounted a pretty good little comeback that made you sweat a little bit in the third period.Of course they did.Because they're the oilers. I don't take anything from that game and go, oh, the oilers are bad or the leafs are the greatest, or whatever. I just think it was a Saturday night matchup between two really good teams.

[00:22:27]

I still think the same thing I've thought about the oilers for three years. I don't think I've ever seen a team this gifted offensively that's this bad at defense.

[00:22:39]

Well, so there was one thing that a few people pointed out. Did you see the Evan Bouchard play where he- Boy, oh, boy. Norris Trophy candidate, according to Jesse Blake.

[00:22:50]

Absolutely. He should definitely be a Norris Trophy candidate.

[00:22:53]

He should be in the conversation. But we need... You know how they're trying to do like, oh, we should have to Bobby Orr for best offensive defenseman. And we should. And we should have best defensive defenseman. Yes.

[00:23:04]

In the NCAA, Cade Webber just won best defensive defenseman.

[00:23:08]

Yeah. Split up the awards.

[00:23:09]

I would like best defenseman and best at defense because he ain't He didn't eat that at all.

[00:23:16]

What player are you talking about? I'll bring it up. The third goal. The one of him going into the corner?

[00:23:21]

Yeah.

[00:23:22]

Allergic to body contact.

[00:23:23]

Yes. I'm going to pull it up for you because- Completely allergic. It's really good. And it's something that I I used to see a Leaps defenseman do literally all the time.

[00:23:33]

One of the most dangerous players on the ice all night, the puck was constantly on his stick. He must have had 20 shot attempts. He had three assists in the game against Ottawa the next night. He is an extraordinarily gifted player. If I got to shut a game down-I have it.

[00:23:51]

I don't even look at it. Sorry, I was looking for... Yeah. So here it is. So there's Evan Bouchard, and he's That's a very good player. And let's fast forward a little bit where the put gets into the corner. And you're going to see him here let up because the Lefs have a player in and I can't even...

[00:24:08]

I think it's Austin Matthews. Is that Matthews 34?

[00:24:10]

Is that what his number is? And he's just going to let Austin take it. It's his defensive zone, and he's just going to let Austin take that.

[00:24:18]

My problem with that is I think he's just trying to hop around Matthews to make a play on the pocket. I think he got-Yeah, I agree. He tried to do too much creativity in the moment. That's why I think everybody's harping on for this, but he just tries to get to the park in a different way as opposed to just going after it with the body.

[00:24:36]

What's funny is, Willy does this all the time, where Matthews is the defenseman and Willy is the righty coming in, and he avoids body contact. And you go, Willy, what the... But he's trying to make a play on the fuck. But the play continues, and he just doesn't do anything. After trying to do that-Look at number two right now.

[00:24:56]

Look at number two.

[00:24:57]

And then-Best seats in the building. Best seats in the building.

[00:25:01]

And let me ask you, Steve, what is the difference between William Neylander and Evan Bouchard positionally?

[00:25:07]

William Neylander is a winger. Evan Bouchard plays right defense.

[00:25:13]

And so when William Neylander is doing it, what zone is he doing in it?

[00:25:15]

He's doing in the offensive zone.

[00:25:17]

This is the point is that, I mean, listen, this is one play. This is one player. Shit happens. It's not like a crazy thing.

[00:25:23]

No, we've been talking about him all season. But coaches don't like that.

[00:25:29]

You got You got to go hard at it, especially against Matthews, because Matthews is going to let something happen. If it's Noah Gregor, I'd be like, Yeah, I guess you let off.

[00:25:36]

If they win the Cup this year, which I still think they very much could, they're going to win it like no team has done in decades. Every game is going to be every game from the Battle of Alberta series a few years ago, where the flames said, Hey, we can't do it either. And the oilers took advantage that, and every game was like 5, 4, 6, 5, 9, 6 in one instance. And Stuart Skinner was uncharacteristically pretty bad. He's had a much better second half, and he did not have a good night.

[00:26:12]

I think there's individual parts of the Edminton Oilers right now that need fixing. One in particular is Evander Cain, who struggled a little on Saturday. And then-He's got to be hurt. They don't want to call it a healthy scratch, but that's essentially what it was. He was useless. Nobloc called it a maintenance day, and the media took it as, Oh, he's getting scratch. But everybody has injuries at this moment. You're scratching him so he can take care of his body so he doesn't have to play the back to back and get back up to speed.

[00:26:39]

He was chirping someone on the leaves. He said, Go back to the middle of the bench, basically calling him the grocery stick. Then the very next night, he's a healthy scratch.

[00:26:49]

Yeah. I think that's something they need to solve. He hasn't scored since February 19th, which is over a month. He had a two goal game against Arizona that hasn't scored since, which you don't have him there to score. But his time on ice since at the beginning of the year, he's playing 18 minutes a night on average. Now, it's down to about 16. Consistently throughout the season is going down. I'm surprised it was that much. Now, he's not scoring. Now, he's a healthy scratch for maintenance. I think that's in particular, you need to solve that. Ekholm has a bad penalty late in the game against Ottawa. They get the power play, and then they score the 4-3 goal, and they win that game. Pickard wasn't great.

[00:27:30]

Well, and also you don't have Ecom on the ice. Who the hell is defending?

[00:27:33]

Because you have limited defensive defensemen, if we want to give out that award. There's a lot of individual parts of the oilers that they can fix with their They can overcome all of those things, but they need to solve those the next couple of weeks.

[00:27:49]

If Cain gets healthy and figures it out... What was the third line? I think it was Cain, Perry, centered by Henrique. But Tampa, when they were winning their cups, it was Maroon with Belmar in the middle and Perry. So you already have one piece of that. That line could and should be such a nightmare for opponents, Especially when you're trying to shut down McDavid and Company. That just seems like such a bad time. I wonder what they do in the playoffs because you split those top two lines up so that you're spreading it out a little bit more, and then you just have this extra line that is a pain in the ass battering ram. Who wants to play this team, really?

[00:28:41]

But that's the idea, right? But then you see a game, Saturday, where they're just not playing well. It was just not clicking, and they're making mistakes, and you're like, Oh, so this isn't working.

[00:28:51]

They were down five, nothing, and I was still like, Oh, hold your horses.

[00:28:54]

Yeah. I was right.

[00:28:55]

Some of that's score effects because they're a very high scoring team. And when the least are up five, nothing, they're going to sit back and Edminton is going to take advantage of that and all that stuff. And if it's a closer game, maybe it goes a little differently.

[00:29:05]

They were a post away from making it five, four.

[00:29:07]

Yeah, it could have got close there. It was real close. I want to ask you guys about the least penalty kill. What do they do here? I know Jarn Croke and Marner are good penalty killers, but what do you do here?

[00:29:20]

It just feels like they're too easy to manipulate. They do have to do a better job moving bodies from the front of the net blocking shots. Edmondson helped with that. We saw that in the Oilers game, but they allowed another one.

[00:29:37]

Well, the Oilers didn't score a goal five on five on Saturday night. They scored two power plays and one six on five.Oh.

[00:29:43]

Wow, really?Yeah. Oh, wow.

[00:29:45]

Well, I mean- And then Carolina last night, same thing.

[00:29:47]

That's encouraging one way. Yeah, well, the only five on five goal Carolina scored was a really stupid giveaway from McCabe. That was weird. And then a power play goal goes off him. So I don't know how much I'm going to read into that. And they're two extraordinary teams in terms of it's Edmonton and it's Carolina. But, man, I know they got Connor Duhre to help with the penalty kill, and I really feel like they got to put some emphasis there and get him as much ice time as humanly possible because he's obviously not quite up to speed yet. I feel like he's getting better and better with every game, but there's still just an ineffectiveness there and a confusion there between him and his teammates. I mean, basically what you pray for is that the amount of times you take a penalty that leads to a power play go down when the playoffs begin. But the whistles are always active in the first round, especially early in the first round. So it's going to be a factor.

[00:30:56]

Okay. Super weird note. They I had announced Zack Hyman's 50th goal during the Leifs broadcast last night. Maybe I'm being a pain in the ass, but I was like, he hasn't been a Leef for four years. Do we need to do this? We got it. He used to be a leaf.

[00:31:10]

Was it a national game?

[00:31:12]

It's on Sportsnet, so it's a national game against Carolina. It's a story.

[00:31:18]

I don't know. It's a guy the least let walk, scoring 50 goals.

[00:31:22]

It's a little odd to do it like the play-by-play did it in the moment during play. It's not like they waited the intermission panel.

[00:31:31]

I would do it. Like, if I was-Play by play? Well, okay. So I'll give you an example. When Sportsnet made me stream an Oilers' Habs game, While Marner was going for a leaf record against the Knux, which is just a bigger game in terms of audience, Marner broke the record. And forget me mentioning it, the chat was full of it. The chat's like, Marner broke the The record, Marner broke the record, Marner broke the record, for a game that they weren't even watching.

[00:32:03]

Yeah, because you're a leafs guy, and all you did was stream leafs games all season. Except for once. Except for the one time. I think that's completely different scenarios than we're watching a leafs broadcast, and they break in with an Edminton oilers players scored 50. Where's the break in for Sam Reinhardt? That's fair. Break in until a Sam Reinhardt scored 50 goals.

[00:32:24]

Hey, guys, I knew you were waiting for it. Here it is.

[00:32:25]

Sam's got 50. It was a weird thing to do.

[00:32:28]

Are they breaking into Habs broadcast to update Domi stats? They ought to. Bobby McMahon closing in on your. It would be nice if Sportsnet in a non-playing a Canadian team, I get it. If you're playing a Canadian team got to be neutral. But we're playing Carolina. Can you at least once pretend that your audience is from Toronto during a Toronto Maple Leaves game?

[00:32:53]

But isn't that them acknowledging it by talking about a former leaf? I don't hate it, man.

[00:32:58]

I don't hate it. Not my favorite. I don't think we'd see that anywhere else for anything else.

[00:33:02]

Okay, you're in Ney?

[00:33:04]

I'm in Ney.

[00:33:05]

You're in Ney?

[00:33:06]

Yeah, I don't know.

[00:33:07]

Maddie, Yey or Ney? Ney.

[00:33:09]

I think it's weird.

[00:33:10]

She thinks it's weird.

[00:33:11]

Ney, you think it's weird. It's been, what, at least a couple of years now.

[00:33:14]

Well, 2020.

[00:33:16]

Third season without them. Yeah. I think.

[00:33:19]

It's just, yeah, no.

[00:33:21]

Ill-timed. Yeah.

[00:33:22]

In the middle of the game, Steve.

[00:33:25]

Yeah, fair enough.

[00:33:25]

I'm grateful for what he did here. I assume you missed it when it happened. Maybe you just didn't hear the-Ila was not having a good time. I think when you're watching it, too, it came across weird.

[00:33:36]

Yeah, I didn't hear a ton of the game that wasn't baby screaming.

[00:33:40]

That's something you do at intermission when you're running the... Amber does the highlights during intermission. Why is that not the note there?

[00:33:48]

Yeah, he was an adored leaf, but he really shined with the oilers, too.

[00:33:53]

You know what I mean?

[00:33:54]

More of his legacy, I think, will be with them a bit. I don't know. I I look at it as maybe it was something they were following the previous day, and they're like, Oh, we actually do have a bookend to that story. He scored his 50th goal. That's fair. I don't know. I'm trying to be nice.

[00:34:12]

I think you're stretching here. I think you're stretching. Here's another one. Here's a weird one, guys. According to nick Barden, the Hockey News and also of the Marley Minute with LFR, Matt Murray could be cleared for game action in April.

[00:34:28]

That's not according to nick Barden. That's according to Elliott Freeman.

[00:34:30]

Well, I got it from nick. I'm not giving Elliott shit. All right? What do we think?

[00:34:35]

Not a chance. What? For the Lefs?

[00:34:38]

The way it's outlined is that it seems like, medically, he'll be cleared early April and to avoid all the cap shenanigans that would come along with that, he's probably going to have a conditioning stint in the AHL from the time early April happens to the end of the season. Then from there, salary cap doesn't matter come the postseason. You can always have Matt Murray as an extra goal tender in Craziest scenarios, there's a possibility that he could sit there as the fourth goal tender. It's honestly a good thing, to the least.

[00:35:07]

If I'm not mistaken, conditioning stints are two weeks. Let's say he's medically cleared April third. Their final game is April 17th. Exactly. He's on the conditioning stent for 14 days. That takes you to the last game of the season. Now you have four goalies plus Dennis Hill to be five.

[00:35:24]

Yeah, that's the timeline that's been outlined.

[00:35:26]

Pray you don't need all that.

[00:35:28]

Do you go... Okay, Do you go with, if your order is Samson off Wall, Martin Jones, who's four and who's five in your pitching rotation? Hildeby. And- Murray's your last.

[00:35:41]

Yeah. He hasn't played hockey for a year. That's a very long time to not play hockey. I have one of the best goalies in the AHL who's frigging enormous. Hildeby has faced NHL shots more recently than Murray. Yes. In practice.

[00:35:59]

Yes.

[00:36:00]

Everything. I mean, I'm sure Murray is working with the guys, but dude, he hasn't played in over a year. That's crazy.

[00:36:07]

Yeah, but this isn't... This is such a non-story. It's not a thing.

[00:36:10]

I just think it's cool. Don't you think it's cool? It's good for him.

[00:36:13]

That means he's going to get to continue his career as a pro-hot.

[00:36:17]

And that was always the plan is next year, he wants to play on an NHL team somewhere.

[00:36:20]

Yeah, I don't really know if it's going to work out that way. I imagine he's going to have to sign as a third, and he's going to be Martin Jones. He's Martin Jones. Hey, I have a long track record. Do you want me as your backup goalie? No, I don't, said all 32 NHL teams. But you can be our third. And you turn into the backup goalie pretty quick. Turns out when you're a good third.

[00:36:47]

Yeah.

[00:36:48]

All right, let's do the Bet MGM big story. Nathan McKinnon, known for being good at hockey. It's a 43-game home point scoring streak. Is that what he's on?

[00:36:59]

Well, there's seven games left. He has a registered a point in every single home game so far.

[00:37:06]

So far this season?

[00:37:06]

Yeah.

[00:37:07]

I think there was some going back to last year, too.

[00:37:10]

I don't know what it sent to last year's 43.

[00:37:12]

It's crazy. Does he do it?

[00:37:15]

Well, Jesse, what do we have on Bet MGM? Because there is something you can bet on.

[00:37:21]

Yeah, that's what you can bet on. You can bet on if he will record a point in every single home game this season. The odds are 3.75 times your money.

[00:37:30]

I have a Steve question. Yeah. I have a Steve question. What if they healthy scratch him before the playoffs?

[00:37:36]

You think that if he has the chance to score in 41 home games, out of 41, they're going to healthy scratch him? I think it's going to be- That is a ridiculous thing for them to do.

[00:37:50]

It happens all the time.

[00:37:51]

Yeah, it happens all the time that somebody is on the verge of scoring in 41 and 41.

[00:37:57]

It happens all the time that a player is healthy scratch.

[00:38:00]

Who is on the verge of scoring in 41 to 41.

[00:38:02]

In the final game before a playoff run. What does Nathan McKinnon want more? This record or the Stanley Cup?

[00:38:08]

I think playing against the Oilers on April 18th.

[00:38:13]

He didn't answer the question. He has to play against the oilers.

[00:38:15]

Will be fine.

[00:38:16]

Oh, and it's the oilers, too.

[00:38:17]

I think Nathan McKinnon play against the oilers on April 18th and not being healthy scratch for that game will not determine whether or not the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup.

[00:38:27]

Another thing you haven't considered, what if he's so I'm glad that he earns the healthy scratch?

[00:38:32]

Then he probably would have not registered a point up until that point. Can you imagine? So you're not taking this? No.

[00:38:39]

What is it? 3.7?

[00:38:40]

Yeah, 3.75..

[00:38:42]

I'm taking that. I think that's pretty good. You think it happens?

[00:38:44]

Yeah. Adam?

[00:38:46]

I think he plays for sure. Even if they play in five minutes.

[00:38:50]

If he plays, then the answer is yes.

[00:38:51]

I think I take that. Because here's the thing about Nathan McKinnon is you know damn well he's going to do everything he can to make it happen. There is no quit in Nathan McKinnon for any reason. I feel like he's at home eating broccoli, just staring lasers through it right now because he's so committed to this one thing.

[00:39:12]

That's how he heats it up.

[00:39:13]

It just looks at it. Wow.

[00:39:20]

That's how he steams it.

[00:39:21]

You steam that broccoli so quickly.

[00:39:23]

Now, if it doesn't happen, I think I know the game where it doesn't happen. Okay, who shuts him out? To finish the season, the Avs got at home. Montreal, New York, Nashville. Rangers. Rangers, thank you. Yeah, there's two New Yorks. Dallas, Minnesota, Winnipeg, Edmonton. If this streak ends, It is ending this Saturday against the Nashville Predators. Oh, man. The hottest team in the National Hockey League.

[00:39:53]

Is you two going to end the streak?

[00:39:54]

You see Soros in goal. They're playing great defense. They shut down Nathan McKinnon, point streak ends. But if he gets past that game, I think he does it.

[00:40:03]

He's going to anger his way. He's going to anger that puck into the net. Yeah.

[00:40:10]

Now I got to something to watch on Saturday.

[00:40:12]

If Nathan McKinnon looks at a puck a certain way, it will grow feet and walk into the net.

[00:40:17]

Jesse, are you taking it?

[00:40:18]

Yeah, I'm going to take it. You're going to take the bet. I think it happens.

[00:40:20]

Now go to betmgm. Com/dangle for all your betting needs, especially as we get into the playoffs. Remember, Bet MGM is the king of sports, and you could be the king, This episode is brought to you in part by Better Help. Listen, it is that time... Steve, let me ask you, how's your sleep been?

[00:40:41]

It's not good.

[00:40:43]

What happens when your sleep's not good?

[00:40:45]

I feel sad.

[00:40:46]

Yeah, right?

[00:40:47]

I can laugh about it. I have tears in my eyes from yarning. Yes.

[00:40:54]

Sometimes the things that become overwhelming, they They feel like a mountain, but maybe they're a mole hill or maybe they are a mountain, and you just have to figure out a way through it. It's good to have an extra set of eyes, an extra set of ears in this particular case to go, okay.Extra.

[00:41:11]

Set of fingers.Yeah, that too.Bose. Belly buttons. The full body.

[00:41:15]

The fool. All the faculties. Type with your nose. That's right. And you can do any of that with better help. Basically, it's nice to have somebody else, like a therapist, to bounce things off of. The great thing with better help is you're going to be matched with somebody very quickly. It's much, much faster than than it takes normally to get a therapist. And of course, you can do this over text. You can do this over FaceTime. You can do it over the phone, whatever works for you. And if you want to learn more, go to betterhelp. Com/sdp to get 10% off your first month. That again is betterhelp, H-E-L-P. Com/sdp. In the standings right now, we have a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, six, seven team race for number one. That's crazy. We have the Vancouver Knucks and New York Rangers at 98 points a piece, and then Florida, Colorado, Carolina, Dallas, and Boston.

[00:42:05]

What is the-97. Wins discrepancy between the team with the most wins and the team with the least?

[00:42:10]

Team with the most wins is the New York Rangers with 47. Team with the least wins Boston Bruins, because they have 15 overtime losses.

[00:42:18]

They have 41 wins.

[00:42:20]

That's right. The next closest to the Boston Bruins in terms of overtime losses are the Dallas stars with nine overtime losses, and Vancouver has eight.

[00:42:29]

So they're separated by one point in the standings and six wins.

[00:42:34]

Yes.

[00:42:36]

It's quite the gap.

[00:42:37]

I think this is the issue with the loser point for me is that I'm going back to what Jesse said, why don't we just do wins and losses? Because ultimately, you don't advance because you lost in overtime in the playoffs. So why are we doing this?

[00:42:56]

It wins and losses or three, two, one. And I feel like they would rather do wins and losses than three, two, one.

[00:43:04]

Yeah, three, two, one is too complicated.

[00:43:04]

I've seen the adjusted standings, too. Three, two, one doesn't change much. Really? Yeah. No. That's surprising. It leaves them pretty similar to what you're at.

[00:43:11]

It still rewards losing. Yeah. Why are we rewarding losing. You know what's crazy? If you went to overtime, so you've already guaranteed yourself a point, and there's no way that the game hasn't been decided. I think that's weird. Even before the shootout, when you go to overtime, you were guaranteed a point, weren't you? Before the shootout? Yes. You were always guaranteed a point. Yeah, because there was a tie. I think that that's strange. I think that's a really strange way to do things. It's like why this league for so long deemphasized goal scoring. It's like, let's score less goals. Let's shut it all down. Who needs that? I want six shots in a period. And what they found is, wow, the more scoring goes up, the more people are like, wow, this is exciting and entertaining hockey. I don't get this. I respect the Boston Bruins, and I'm not dissing the Boston Bruins here.

[00:44:05]

We've seen enough of them that we know they're good.

[00:44:07]

But who do you think takes it? Vancouver, New York, Florida, Colorado, Carolina, Dallas, and Boston. Vancouver, New York, Florida have all played 71 games. Carolina, Dallas, and Boston have played 72. Who do you like?

[00:44:22]

Oh, man. Well, I like them all.

[00:44:26]

Points percentage is not that crazy between the spread between them is Vancouver at 690 and Boston at 674.

[00:44:33]

I'm going to say the Rangers or Panthers.

[00:44:35]

Yeah?

[00:44:36]

Yeah. Although Colorado has this thing about them where they won't be denied. I had my fantasy season ended. Because I needed Georgiev and the Avs to lose. They were down for nothing, and they came back and won 5-4 in overtime because you can't rely on the penguins for anything.

[00:45:00]

Did you see Sid's goal, though, guys? That tip? That tip at the side of the net?

[00:45:05]

How do you blow a 4-0 lead to Colorado and not want to leave at some point? I'm sorry.

[00:45:11]

Didn't the least blow a pretty good lead against Colorado? 3-0.

[00:45:13]

They blow a 4-1 lead. No, No, but the difference is they were on route to the playoffs, and, oh, shit, we blew one game. This is very much a trend for the Pittsburgh Penguins. They are going nowhere at break-neck speeds.

[00:45:28]

They are 30, 30, and 10. I just I thought that was a cool record because it's very round.

[00:45:32]

That is also 10 more losses than wins. Your fans, if they watched every game, would be mad at the end of 10 more games than they were happy.

[00:45:42]

Yeah, you're 30 and 40.

[00:45:44]

That's real, real ass. That sucks, dude.

[00:45:50]

Yeah.

[00:45:51]

They're barely... Here, wait. Let me throw on my glasses, make sure I'm seeing what I'm seeing. They're clinging to a tier of teams, right? So there's the playoff teams. There's the teams that are in the playoff hunt. And then there's the teams who stink. And the penguins are in a no man's land between the teams that are in the hunt and the teams who stink. The Blue Jackets, Habs, and Sens all stink. The Sabers are not really in that conversation anymore of contending for the playouts. Neither are the Devils.

[00:46:27]

Isn't that funny? Last week, we're talking about the Sabers charging Hard.

[00:46:30]

And now you got the Islanders who are on life support, the Red Wings, Caps, and Lightning. And I guess you could throw the Flyers in there as well. Yeah, the Flyers are a lot closer to stinking than contending.

[00:46:41]

The Flyers are in a dangerous spot right now because it looks like if Washington can keep this up, they'll pass the Flyers for that third spot in the Metro, and the Flyers are going to drop down the second wild card. And once they're there, who knows if Detroit can win a couple more games here and take that spot.

[00:46:58]

And Detroit's not... They lost again. We can. They lost again. After you.

[00:47:03]

After you. After you. After you. It's a Canadian standoff.

[00:47:06]

So who do you give it to? Who do you give it to, guys? Who are you giving it to? President's trophy?

[00:47:08]

Yeah. Rangers.

[00:47:12]

Rangers. Jesse, what do you think?

[00:47:14]

Vancouver The Knucks were my number one pick, but the Colorado Avalanche amongst all of those teams are the hottest. I believe it's nine in a row they've won. Good Lord. They're probably my second pick. If the Knucks don't hold on, it's probably going to be the Avalanche would take Nine in a row in Toronto.

[00:47:31]

If you had a nine-game win streak, it'd be like they'd build a statue. We still talk about the 10-game win streak that Gilmore team had. That's regular in Colorado. It's like, Oh, this happens all the time.

[00:47:41]

I'd be incapable of having a bad day.

[00:47:44]

I couldn't. Simply could not.

[00:47:46]

How much you sleep last night, Steve? 30 minutes. Thanks for asking. I'm going on a coffee run. You want a coffee?

[00:47:53]

Do you think any wins or losses that the penguins incur the remainder of the season matter at this point?

[00:48:02]

Yeah, because if they keep losing, their draft pick goes higher because they're going to keep it this year and not relinquish it because it's top 10 protected. So what they want to do is keep losing as much as possible so they can get the higher pick because next year that pick is going to go to San Jose.

[00:48:15]

So you got to say be unwatchable, boys.

[00:48:17]

Yeah. Right now, they should be in tank mode.

[00:48:20]

And you can't tell Crosby that because he had a point on all four goals.

[00:48:24]

You can't tell Lataing that. You can't tell Carlson that. You can't tell Malkin that. You can't tell any of those guys that. But that's how they should be I don't know if you have to tell the time.

[00:48:33]

Okay. Dude, he's not doing great. It's the worst case scenario here. The penguins finish with a draft pick at 12, and then- No, that'd be decent because then it's not theirs, right?

[00:48:45]

So you're saying they would relinquish the 12?

[00:48:48]

Yeah, 12 goes to San Jose, right?

[00:48:51]

Oh, they wouldn't have a choice.

[00:48:51]

And then you're fine because then next year, you can tank if you want. Oh, I see. Because then next year, you get your draft pick, right? So you want to win. I think Either you want to buy... The worst case scenario is you finish 10, and then you got to keep that 10 draft pick, right?

[00:49:06]

Stop trading for Eric Carlson. You know this is how the Sens got Tim Stutzler, right? Because the Sharks traded a first-round pick. They were ass, and it turned into the third overall pick. It was Tim Stutzler. Now, this is after the Sens did the same thing and ended up giving up Bowen Byram. In the Matt Dushane deal. But they unalverse card and got out of it.

[00:49:36]

And Sam Gerard, too. Or was that the Predators? Predators draft Sam Gerard? Yes. Okay.

[00:49:40]

Yeah. Dude, the trade tree for that, I already did it, and it needs an abundance of updating.

[00:49:48]

There's some good players in there.

[00:49:50]

It's a big, big deal. Colorado, when they nail a deal, holy shit. The Lindros Trade, which was obviously Quebec, but same franchise, the loop didn't close on the Lindros Trade tree until I started making LFR videos. Brad Richardson, I think, was part of it, and we watched him play during the Cap era. They rode that trade for a very, very long time, and every cup they've gotten up until the 2022 one has that trade's fingerprints on it.

[00:50:27]

So currently, the Pittsburgh Penguins sit ninth in terms of if the draft order were exactly as its percentage- And the lottery balls don't fall their way. So they would keep this year's pick right now?

[00:50:38]

Yeah, if it's not.

[00:50:39]

The reason I bring this up is because if you are Pittsburgh, I'm trying to figure out what their strategy is going forward. Obviously, having a first round pick is great anytime you have one. Anytime you have one, that's great. It's a lottery ticket. You never know. It's going to be great. But it's interesting, Jesse, what you bring up about that San Jose trade, because if they're going to tank, next year's be the year. If they keep the pick this year, I have to wonder if they will tank next year.

[00:51:06]

They can't tank. They cannot tank. They can't tank for at least another two years, depending on how this draft lottery goes.

[00:51:15]

They can't do it. I think that hockey might have other... It's nice that we all think that. Sorry.

[00:51:19]

They can't tank on purpose.

[00:51:21]

Right. But I think the way that hockey is played and the way teams are built are going to have something to say about that because you're not good enough.

[00:51:27]

Well, it's like you can't accuse the Sens of tanking this year. They were just bad.

[00:51:30]

Yes. Right.

[00:51:31]

They had tanking forced upon them.

[00:51:35]

That's right. There you go. That's right.

[00:51:38]

Much like Jerome McGinnland in retirement, how darey are both of you.

[00:51:41]

I think the Penguins right now are one of the fascinating teams in the NHL. They're one of those interesting stories. You're like, What are you going to do?

[00:51:45]

No, I think the most fascinating conversation with them is, what number does Max Celabrini wear for them next year? You think they're going to get it? Yeah, that's how it works for them.

[00:51:54]

That's how it works. They'll win the lottery with 2% odds? Yep.

[00:51:57]

That's how it works for them.

[00:51:58]

If I'm the Ducks, I'm going to throw something at the wall. If I'm the Sharks.

[00:52:03]

Well, the Ducks were second place to getting Crosby. Yes. They were second place to getting Bedard. The way this is going to work out is they're going to be second place again this year.

[00:52:14]

Didn't Leo Carlson get injured this weekend, too?

[00:52:16]

He's fine.

[00:52:17]

He's okay. Okay, he's fine.

[00:52:18]

You know what would be incredible is if the draft order was one, two, Penguin's Ducks again. It could be.

[00:52:25]

It could be. That'd be awfully depressing for Ducks fans.

[00:52:28]

I mean, they did get a cup out of the person who they got the first round pick with. Wasn't that Getzlaff? Getzlaff wasn't he right after Perry? No, no.

[00:52:36]

They got Bobby Ryan. Bobby Ryan. That was 2006.

[00:52:41]

Five. It was 2005.

[00:52:45]

They got Crosby. No, the Ducks, I think it was 2003, got Getzlaff and Perry in the same first round.

[00:52:52]

The San Jose Sharks have a goal differential of negative 130 right now. The next closest is the Chicago Blackhawks of at negative 99, and the Anaheim Ducks at negative 78. That's pretty wild. That's some bad goal differentials. Interestingly enough, a team like the Seattle Kraken are a negative 21. The Ottawa senators are negative 24. I believe Are the Washington Capitals not like a negative? Yeah, negative 27.

[00:53:18]

Yeah, it's wild.

[00:53:20]

Wild.

[00:53:21]

They're looking like they're going to make a class. Do you watch a game like the one that happened on Sunday where they handle the Jets in three nothing. Charlie Lingerin's, I don't know where where this came from. I don't think anybody anticipated Charlie Lingerin to be this great of a goalie.

[00:53:34]

He's where he was at the beginning of the season.

[00:53:36]

He was unbeatable at the beginning. Now he's back, and the Jets are a very good team, and they took care of business.

[00:53:42]

They had the best trade deadline of any team in the NHL. They lost Joel Edmondson. They gained Alexander Ovechkin. Yeah. He's scoring from a certain date. I saw this on Twitter yesterday at a 60 goal pace. Like, He's just like, can't hit the broad side of a barn. I stink. I'm washed.

[00:54:04]

I'm over.

[00:54:06]

He just had his Popeye spinach or whatever it is, and he can't stop scoring. Do you see the frigging goal he scored yesterday?

[00:54:13]

The one he stole? He stole it. Yeah, he did. I'm going to put my stick in front of that. Stick it. It's my goal.

[00:54:19]

You see him on the bench?

[00:54:20]

Oh, yeah.

[00:54:21]

Where he's like, Oh, well. He's hilarious. He's not apologizing for it, though.

[00:54:27]

No. Last 18 games, he's got 12 goals. Stop. Stop. It's unreal.

[00:54:33]

There was that Mark Specter tweet going around like, Oh, we're going to celebrate Ovi hitting 20 goals now. He's going to screw around. He's got to be flirting with 30 at this point.

[00:54:45]

So far this season, Alexander Ovechkin has 26 goals. So he's going to be a 30 goal scorer once again. At least.

[00:54:54]

We're not even going to look at this season at the end of his career. It's that big of an anomaly.

[00:55:01]

I do want to throw out there that when we did our predictions, when he started scoring, we were like, What's he finished with? I did say 35.

[00:55:06]

There you go. He hit 35. Even in the '16, '17 season where Ovechkin struggled, he scored 33 goals. This season, he could easily hit that mark.

[00:55:17]

'16, '17, when the capital struggle, oh, wait, they won the President's trophy.

[00:55:23]

Man. Yeah, with his very weak regular season of just 33 goals. He's the He's the best goal scorer of all time.

[00:55:31]

Yeah, especially when you adjust for era. He played in an era where no one scored.

[00:55:36]

Exactly. Missed parts of a season or COVID season, lockout. He missed his whole rookie-Strike. Full season.

[00:55:46]

Yeah. He was drafted in 2004. He should have been in the Caps lineup in '04, '05, but there was no season.

[00:55:50]

Steals a Calder from Crosby because they go head to head because they should have had separate first years, right?

[00:55:56]

A hundred %. Yeah. They shouldn't have been rookies at the same time.

[00:55:58]

But the same year they enter the league at the same time. What a career he's had.

[00:56:02]

Actually, it's great that you guys bring that up because Tango Tiger on Twitter put this up, and it's NHL scoring average per game by era. It's a full graph from the start of the NHL to now of scoring. I just thought it was interesting to see it. You see a big spike in the 1920s. It's in your... Jesse, I just sent it to you via text.

[00:56:26]

You know what that spike is, by the way? What? The forward pass.

[00:56:30]

Oh, I guess that would make sense.

[00:56:31]

Yeah, there's the guy who's... I think his name is George Hainsworth. He's third all time in shutouts. More than half of his 90 plus shutouts are from before the forward pass.

[00:56:43]

Right. I would imagine it would make things trick here? Just a bit. Although the least would have been just fine. Their zone entries in the back pass years would have been... Oh, yeah. That back pass a peluza. The least would be all over that.

[00:56:53]

Babcock like, I love this.

[00:56:55]

All right. So pull this thing up. Now, you obviously notice where Wayne Gretzky starts and where his last scoring title is. But it's crazy to look at 2005, right? Right after the lockout, just after there, there's a little bit of a spike, and then it goes down. And all of those years up to 2015, it was worse than what we call or just as bad as the dead fuck era.

[00:57:21]

The 2010s, almost the entirety of the 2010s were the lowest scoring seasons in the NHL since basically-The backpast. The Korean War, like the '50s. I'm serious. Look at it. It fell to dead fuck. Then the lockout happened. Then there was a spike, and the spike was, let's change the rules to have more penalties. Should we give the players time to adjust? Nope. We're going to let them bully us and wind their way out of having to abide by the rules, and we're going to dial it all back, ushering us into the lowest scoring, most hunker crap era we could possibly have. Crosby, this is part of the reason Crosby is one of the best players of all time. Ovi is going to break Gretsky's record for goal scoring out of that era. Crosby is a top 10 point getter all time in that hunk of shit era.

[00:58:23]

That's what I mean.

[00:58:24]

These are two of the best players. Sydney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, that rivalry was overhyped into oblivion, and yet they exceeded expectations in every way, shape, and form. Both of those players-Went to war in the playoffs? Yes. Against each other, dueling hat tricks. Both won cups. They It's time for four cups, those guys. And there might be more. There might be.

[00:58:51]

It's still possible. If Ovi gets in the playoffs, there could be. You never know. Got to be the hot team in the playoffs, right?

[00:58:56]

Crosby also. But yeah, It's crazy what both Crosby and Ovechkin were able to do in that awful, awful, awful era. We look at the scoring now, and it's still only at like 1995, 1994 levels. Look at how much higher the '80s are. We're talking like almost a full goal per game more, three quarters of a goal per game more, excluding empty netters. That's brutal.

[00:59:29]

Yeah. And that's what's so exciting about it is that... I mean, it's down a little bit technically this year, but the reality is we have a long way to go in terms of how much more scoring there could be. I don't see anyone complaining. I don't see anybody upset about the fact that goaltending save percentage is down league-wide. That sure sucks. I missed the days of... Who was the Calgary goalie who had a 198 goals against average? Mika Kiprso? Yeah. It's crazy numbers. Like a 9-30 save percentage.

[01:00:02]

I bring this up all the time. There was a game when I was a kid where the devil scored in the first two minutes and the game ended 1-0. It was one of the worst experiences in my life. What's the worst class or tutorial or commute you've ever had?

[01:00:20]

How do you sell that?

[01:00:21]

I enjoyed that game less than that.

[01:00:23]

I remember that, I referenced it earlier, but there was a second period for the Lefs in the in the playoffs against New Jersey Devils where they had six points. There were six shots. Wasn't it a game?

[01:00:33]

That was an entire game. Entire game, six shots. It was a game seven. The Leaps set the record for the lowest shot total in a payoff game.

[01:00:41]

Depressing. I remember watching.

[01:00:43]

Yeah, their chokes are not limited to the Bruins.

[01:00:47]

No, no. It's Tim's 60th anniversary, and rollup to win is back. And to celebrate, you can get big prizes like an all-electric Volkswagen ID.4. Imagine never having to fill up your tank again. Wouldn't that be great?

[01:01:02]

I'm imagining it. I'm picturing it. I want that life.

[01:01:05]

We could take that beautiful SUV all the way down to San Diego.Drive it all the way down.Yes, we can. Would you drive all the way?

[01:01:11]

Who do you-Driving it, driving it, driving it down. That's what I would be doing.

[01:01:15]

Okay, of the three of us, who would do the majority of the driving if we're driving down?

[01:01:19]

Me.

[01:01:20]

You think so? No, I don't know. Jesse, would we let Steve drive the speed limit the entire way?

[01:01:24]

I think so. I think driving the speed limit is important.

[01:01:27]

Really? Yeah. Oh, my.

[01:01:29]

No, Adam I was a speed demon. I don't think I trust him to drive us to San Diego in that Volkswagen.

[01:01:35]

Well, I wouldn't need to because I'd be taking the plane with my $10,000 daily jackpot. It's financial. I'll meet you at the Hilton, a sun-soaked Hilton vacation. Also available with Roll Up To Win.

[01:03:37]

The Presser SDP. The Steve Dangle press conference.

[01:03:46]

All right. One thing we forgot to hit. John Torterella was asked about Felix Sandstrom's performance. This is his reaction during his press conference post-game.

[01:03:59]

Felix Sandstrom wasn't too happy with his performance.

[01:04:03]

He just felt like he missed a couple there.

[01:04:05]

He felt like he could continue some more steps.

[01:04:11]

And for everybody listening, that is John Torterella banging the table twice, the podium twice, and then walking out of the press conference to end it.

[01:04:21]

You know you don't have to treat people like that, right?

[01:04:23]

Yeah, this is where Torz loses me. And he does this. Every team he does this with. And he's going to do it on a bigger stage in Philadelphia It just like it happened in Vancouver. You saw it happen when it unwounded New York, and you saw it happen when it unwound in New York, and you saw it happen when it unwound in Tampa. There are things that this coach does that are really, really intelligent, right? You know, Keturie, the deeper you dive into the numbers, you're like, Okay, listen, I get it. I get it. I don't get him not talking to Couturier about it, but I get why he was scratched. I completely get that. Felix Sandstrom feels like crap right now. Well, I mean, he was bad. And he was bad. The flyers reporter is like, Hey, Well, he's trying to get him to say something about it. And I know that torts is frustrating, but part of being a good leader is being in control of your emotions. And as a head coach, you got to be a leader. And I love when torts is like, when the team is bad and he gets out there and he's like, They were bad, and here's what they were bad, and this is what we got to work on.

[01:05:22]

With Sandstrom there, it's like, Dude, you're lucky to be in the playoffs at all. Your goaltending stinks. You know that everybody knows your goaltending stinks. Goaltending is terrible. And it's been bad all year. And you've found a way around that. There's a way for him to answer that where he could still say, Yeah, he wasn't good, and I need him to be better. And that's all you have to say.

[01:05:42]

I'm trying hard to find the quote And I can't, but Torz goes, It'd be nice to get a goddamn occasional save. And he was talking about John Graham. Yeah. And that quote is from 2007.

[01:05:57]

I was about to say, what year is this?

[01:06:00]

John Graham.

[01:06:01]

It was in Tampa. It's from the first year of LFR.

[01:06:05]

Oh, my gosh.

[01:06:07]

Listen, there's something to be said about being your own man, your own person. And he is certainly that. John Torterelle is free. He's free. He doesn't have a moment in his life where he's like, what if I offend someone? No. But Listen, I think there's something to be said because whenever you talk about torts being an asshole, and he is, he's an asshole. Whenever you talk about John Torterelle being an asshole, people talk about the nice things that he does. And he's helped out this kid, and he's done this charitable initiative, and that's good.

[01:06:49]

It's good that he did that.

[01:06:50]

All that's good. It's good that he did that. But you encounter so many people in your life. And there are the people who mean something to you, your family and everything. And you're not an asshole to them. Why would I be an asshole to them? They're my family. And then there's people who need you, the people in society who need our help. You're not an asshole to them. Why would you be an asshole to them? Of course not. But everyone else, he's a miserable prick. Every member of the media, apparently a big old bunch of his players. If you're not a part of his life, it's one thing to be like, I don't need to waste my time on this. I don't need to do this. I don't need to do that. But he's just an asshole.

[01:07:43]

And my question is, this is a player he'll have to play again, right? Felix Sandstrom is going to have to play some hockey. How is this getting the best out of him?

[01:07:55]

Felix Sandstrom is not supposed to be in the NHL.

[01:07:58]

That's the other thing. Like you're Getting this guy up to fail already.

[01:08:02]

I praised Sammie Erson, and I know Torterelle has done that recently, too, because both those goalies are in an impossible position, possibly unprecedented, where the team's starting goal tender, Oh, sorry, you don't get him for the rest of the season. Why? Is he hurt? No, he can't because of the police, right? And they have Cal Peterson. I don't know if he's hurt or what. But there's no offense to Felix Sandstrom. There's no evidence over the course of his professional hockey career that he should be putting up good numbers in the NHL. So what are you pounding your hands for? Are you criticizing the GM? Is this a shot across the bow at Danny Breer, who were all starting to put together, connect the dots that he made you name a captain when you didn't want one? And you're undermining your boss, essentially? Is that what's going on here? You don't have to be an asshole.

[01:09:09]

Sometimes you can be. Like, Rick, bonus. It's okay to me.

[01:09:11]

You can be.

[01:09:13]

After Winnipeg took on Vegas. And by the way, I don't think anybody at the time really knew what Vegas had, right? Knew what playoff team they were going to be last year, right? No. Well, Jesse did. Jesse did. Jesse was pressured in that. There's no question. When that happened, You were like, Rick Bowness after game five and the season ends is like, this was bad, and they were bad. I also don't think that anybody knew how good the Jets would come out this year and how good they've been this year. No one would have predicted that either, right? Except for maybe Rick Bowness, who was expecting more from them. I liked that, and I liked that guys like Blake Wheeler didn't like that. That's how I knew it was time for guys like Blake Wheeler to go.

[01:09:54]

Well, and now he's on a team that might win the President Trophy. That's right.

[01:09:57]

And he was playing great, but it was, sometimes it's just time to go. With torts, it's always there's times where I'm like, I agree, I agree, I agree. And then you could tell he's living in this frustration for weeks at a time. And when he does that, he does stuff like this. And I just don't see how it helps Felix Sandstrom. Now, me saying that, he'll probably go on a U2 run after this. I don't know. He'll be like, 12:00 and 2:00 the rest of the year.

[01:10:21]

Well, then being an asshole is the way to go, and everyone should be an asshole.

[01:10:25]

And I'm not saying it'll be nicey-nice with the guys. Felix Sandstrom I think the last time he played in the NHL, I'm looking at his numbers here, he played 20 games for the Flyers last year and had an 880 save percentage. Now it's 823, his save percentage, in five this year. He's not supposed to be playing at this level. He's not a goalie at this level.

[01:10:47]

Now, I guess the defense is, what are you supposed to say?

[01:10:52]

Just say, We're going to need more from him. Move on. That's it.

[01:10:56]

You know who's the coach of a team that's in contention for the President's trophy and might mess around and win a Cup this year. Rod Brindamore, when his team was given him the worst goaltending, literally in the league, was like, No, we're better than this. We have to do better as a group. And then they have. And they've gotten better goaltending since. Now, the opposite happened for Ottawa because they stuck up for their goalies and they continued to stink. But there's an example of it working. Like, The trying to fight Bob Hartley and refusing to leave the bench for a ref, we would not tolerate this. We would not stick up for this behavior from anyone who wasn't as entertaining as towards. He's an entertaining asshole. I just think we're at that part of the season where he's getting miserable.

[01:11:53]

I'll be honest with you, even before this, Maddie brought it up. She's like, Hey, you guys should talk about that. I was like, We got to do this again.

[01:12:02]

Who out there, what former coaches or active coaches have former players that come out and publicly blast them?

[01:12:11]

Just Babs.

[01:12:12]

It's a very small group of guys.

[01:12:16]

I think Grubowski bashed Randy Carlyle. Called him an idiot.

[01:12:21]

Yeah, but that's like one guy. It's like him and Cooliman. It's Babcock. It's Mike Keenan a bit.

[01:12:27]

Oh, yeah. The Mike Keenan stories are- It's Michelle Terry in a bit.

[01:12:32]

Brandon Dubinsky coming out and criticizing Babs, or Babs, whoops, towards when he did. I don't know. When he's trading barbs with Brooksie, Torterella is somewhat of an entertaining guy. Dude, I love watching clips of his, but that one, it's just you're being a prick. You're being a prick because who gives a fuck about all those guys, right? I I don't know.

[01:13:00]

I agree. I'm with you. Jesse, a couple more things. Do you care?

[01:13:02]

I think every reporter should sit there in silence.

[01:13:07]

A couple more things from the weekend that we missed. Jonathan Druin had an unbelievable game. The game we talked about earlier against the Pittsburgh Penguins, where they stormed back. Two goals, one assist for Druin in that come back. He's on pace to match or pass his career high in points. He's at 46 points. Career high is 53. There's a guy who took less money to play with somebody he knew he was going to have a great season with. So great to see Drew and come back and have this type of season with the Avalanche.

[01:13:37]

It's not a charity case. He's gone there and he's done his thing. He's been absolutely incredible.

[01:13:44]

The first nine games, he had one assist.

[01:13:46]

Yeah, he had... Well, he's had a couple lulls this season, but we talk about the teams that are the best contenders are the ones who get hot at the right time. He and the abs are getting hot at the right time.

[01:13:58]

Sam Reinhardt, In pro sports, a lot of the time, it's not just about what athlete you are. It's just about the fit and where you're playing. There's somebody who moved on from Buffalo where the team wasn't very good for a very, very long time since he was there. And since he's gone to Florida, all he's done is score goals. All of his 30 goal seasons have happened in Florida, and now he has a 50 goal season. So shout out Reinhardt, who's now a contractor is expiring, he's going to get a giant payday.

[01:14:25]

It was nice that it was easy for him, too. Like a nice empty netter. Not so hard. He had to skate I'm really hard for it, but it was nice that I was like, Good for you. You need that. You deserve that. And by the way, he was at the Pepsi booth when I was doing the All-Star game. Very nice guy. Yeah. He stayed there for way longer than he had to sign in autogravs for kids and stuff. Really good guy.

[01:14:45]

Very nice guy who shouldn't have scored his 50th yesterday. He shouldn't have.

[01:14:50]

Why?

[01:14:50]

Should have been suspended.

[01:14:52]

For what?

[01:14:53]

You see his spinning elbow in Eric Usubson's face in the Rangers game? Oh, my God.

[01:14:55]

That looks more accidental than-Rangers fans, Here's your ammo.

[01:15:01]

Gregory Campbell, Assistant GM of the Panthers. His dad works for the league.

[01:15:07]

It was bad. The smush on the board is always bad. I hate seeing guys getting smushed like that, but I don't know if it's suspension worthy.

[01:15:13]

Well, for it to not even be a penalty.

[01:15:15]

Yeah, not a penalty is too much. Last person from the weekend we should shout out, Ryker Evans, who was the answer in Friday's SDP of who he played for, scored that night for the Seattle back in. We made it happen. That is unbelievable. Shout out Ryker Evans for his first ever NHL goal after being the answer to Who He Play For.

[01:15:39]

Can we play Who He Play For again this week?

[01:15:40]

Who He Score For. We can definitely do that.

[01:15:42]

Okay, because I like Who He Play For.

[01:15:44]

Oh, it's my favorite. We're going to cause a lot of first career goals. Oh, man.

[01:15:48]

I'm happy for him.

[01:15:49]

Can you exclusively do Leaps?

[01:15:51]

What do you know? So they all score. Who he played for? Matthew Nein.

[01:15:55]

Austin Matthews is sitting at like 68 goals. Who he played for? Austin Matthews.

[01:16:01]

And then also from Friday's show, we got sent in some Alexander Ovechkin designs. This is from... Hold on, let me show him.

[01:16:12]

Steve, let him explain it.

[01:16:13]

This is from @ Where Wolf 1 on Twitter. They sent in an eight and a half by 11 page of Ovechkin, different 895 OV type faces. Here we go. We got 08 V5.

[01:16:33]

Okay. The one on the top is-It's not bad.

[01:16:35]

How do you explain it on audio? It's the letter O, and beneath it is another O, and that makes it an eight. Then it's It's a V, but they put a bunch of sticks and a J on it to make it a nine. And then there's the I, which is just one stick, and then they use a bunch of other sticks to make it a five. There's two on here that are legitimately incredible.

[01:17:00]

The Alexander the Great, and then the GR8 goes down to an 895. Oh, screw it.

[01:17:06]

There's three. There's OVOVI, and then there's the Shadow that makes it 895. I really like that. There's OVI vertically, an 895 next to it.

[01:17:19]

I like the other one better.

[01:17:21]

It could be 08V9I5.

[01:17:24]

It's a little too confusing.

[01:17:25]

Also, I love the button at the bottom that looks like Obe. Is that Cyrillic? Obechkin.

[01:17:29]

Yeah, this one is a lot. I don't even know it.

[01:17:31]

No.

[01:17:32]

Yeah, it looks Cyrilic. I think the one at the top, the first one you described is the best one.

[01:17:35]

I think it is, yeah. Alexander the Greatest is also cool. That's a great- Maybe the best T-shirt, the top one.

[01:17:41]

Russian machine, feel free to talk to this person.

[01:17:45]

Also, Matty, to bring that off, I have another one that was also sent.

[01:17:48]

Can Russian Machine have a contest? They should have a contest.

[01:17:50]

This one is from Benny Donaldson, who also sent this to me on Twitter. It said, @jesseblake, ideas for the OV record-breaking hat design. It It is a hat, and they photoshopped onto it 8v9chk5n. So it spells Ovechkin, but with the 895 in there.

[01:18:11]

Phonetically, it's 8v9chk5n. That is something.

[01:18:20]

Maybe they don't need to sell merch for this. I don't feel like there's an easy solve. No, no.

[01:18:24]

If you go back to the first graphic, the best one, I I think is Alexander the Great 95. I like that. Alexander the GR 895.

[01:18:37]

The bottom right. Yeah, I like that one. That's the one. Alexander the Great 95.

[01:18:46]

You know what's annoying about that is he's going to literally break Wayne Gretsky's record, and then we're going to spend the next few games going, he's five away from 900.

[01:18:59]

That's what I was thinking It's like 900 seems to be the one to celebrate.

[01:19:03]

Yeah. Well, you got to celebrate.

[01:19:04]

I know. I'll never forgive the New York Rangers for not getting Gretsky to 900. He had nine goals in, I think, 63 games or 70 something games. In his final year. Pass Wayne the Puck. What are you doing?

[01:19:18]

Yeah.

[01:19:20]

You stink anyway. Pass him the Puck.

[01:19:21]

He was annoyingly passed first. Also, what are the Rangers's excuses for not making the playoffs in Wayne's last year? You sign everybody and you go for it.

[01:19:28]

Everybody. Morons. No, it was a bad era for them where they- Had all the money and signed a whole bunch of players. Hey, you know how the Leifs sign every over-the-hill player in the league? Why don't we do that? Let's do that, but not even as effective as they did it.

[01:19:43]

Let's do that. Let's give Bal Kaminski, some big numbers, some big money.

[01:19:47]

Remember they had Burre, too?

[01:19:48]

Burre, they had Jauger. Yeah, they had Theo Fleury. Oh, boy. Yeah, Theo Fleury had some rough years in New York. But at the time, it was a great Great signing. He had a good run with the Avalanche. He was good.

[01:20:03]

He was an incredible av, really underrated av. They should have won with him.

[01:20:07]

Yeah, absolutely. Jesse?

[01:20:09]

One interesting thing that happened over the weekend was that, because we were talking about all this stuff about Ovechkin and what the number is going to be and the T-shirts and all that. T. J. O. She played his 1,000th game. And on Twitter, the Capital's account went with T.

[01:20:26]

J.1k. I like that. Sure.

[01:20:28]

That's not bad. All right. And their T-shirts did not have a funny hashtag design. All they did was just make regular ass T-shirts. They almost went retro. I didn't know it was possible. You can just make a T-shirt without the weird TJ1k going on? They just made these awesome TJoshi 1,000th Gameplay T-shirt. That's awesome.

[01:20:52]

Duncan Keith is still the most unexplainable-D1k?

[01:20:56]

Dick. Yeah. If you see under There's the 1,000 there, you can see the TJ1k, but the whole shirt isn't just T-J 1K. It's just this little part here where they threw it in so you know what you're celebrating. It's just a great T-shirt.

[01:21:12]

Are we in a post-hashtag marketing era? I think so. It would be nice.

[01:21:15]

Because this is a lot better than just the-Oh, it's way better.

[01:21:18]

Dick.

[01:21:19]

Dick. Duncan Keith 1K.

[01:21:23]

Dick. Oh, and he's drinking a beer through his shirt. I love that. Yeah.

[01:21:27]

So shout out the Caps marketers for making a great tea.

[01:21:31]

If we're on our last thing, I would like to end on this video, Jessie, that I just sent you via text. Because this one, I think, is the way that we should end every show.

[01:21:42]

I have the other thing.

[01:21:43]

Do you have other things? Yeah.

[01:21:44]

Because we haven't even got questions yet.

[01:21:46]

Give me more tea. Oh, we haven't even asked a question.

[01:21:48]

Let's go question, though. Okay, hold on. Questions. Don't play this video now?

[01:21:52]

Don't play it now. Okay. Let's go out on this.

[01:21:54]

Ask me as many questions as possible. I'm basically a barnacle right now. I have no brain cells. Really?

[01:22:00]

I love these questions. Perfect.

[01:22:04]

Give me one second. Steve, how's Ila?

[01:22:09]

Not rested. No, she's good. She's good. She actually does sleep decently. It's just burning the candle at both ends, right? Going to bed late because I'm feeding her, getting up early because I'm taking Leo to daycare. She's up to four ounce bottles now.

[01:22:24]

Just crushing.

[01:22:25]

She's in her bottle crushing era.

[01:22:27]

The more they crush, the faster they're going to sleep all Full head of hair and frigging smashing huge bottles.

[01:22:34]

This is actually... Baby 2 in 2024 is unfathomably better than Baby 1 in 2020.

[01:22:43]

I can't even imagine why. What was going on?

[01:22:45]

I don't know how Leo turned into such a good kid because I was a pretty clueless parent.

[01:22:54]

This one comes from Michael. First question of the press conference. Michael says, Is Nicki Bob in In the playoff lineup? No. No. Damn.

[01:23:03]

No. It's unfortunate, man. He scored last night. Last night is why you don't trade him. But the last few games are why you don't put him in the lineup come game one of the playoffs. He's too young and has too good of a shot. He has too good of a skill to give up on. That doesn't make any sense. Would you even recoup a second rounder for him, which is what you spent to get him?

[01:23:29]

You drafted him in the beginning. I don't think so.

[01:23:31]

Well, then what are you doing trading him? You hold on to him. Well, no, you got to get a fourth for it. No, you don't. Because what he could be at his best is more valuable than a fourth. So you hold on to him. But boy, his zone entries on PP2 have been brutal. He always performs with Matthews.

[01:23:53]

He's capable of playing up and down the lineup. Don't play him on the fourth line. What's the point? Here's Here's the thing with nick is that he's got all the talent. If you're pissed off about being sent down, and I respect that you're pissed off, I wouldn't expect you to be happy about it, then here's an easy one. Take care of the pock. Don't swing at it in the air when it's near someone's head in the defensive. Oh, my God. That is prime nerves.

[01:24:17]

That was bad. Jake Garner did that, remember? No, I don't. It drove me... So it was a game, I think it was against the Kings. Park is above his head. He swings at it like this. So it's going behind Find the net, Jake. He swings at it, bats it down. He cannot play it. He bats it down. Justin Williams gets it because he's like, Oh, look, the Puck, and he scores.

[01:24:43]

Jake.

[01:24:46]

Why? So when nick does that, I'm like, okay, I know you didn't mean to high stick that man, but what was the end game there? You hit the punk with a high stick and then cannot play it What are you doing?

[01:25:01]

If you're nick Robertson, the way to get in the lineup for the playoffs is in the neutral zone. Because we know you can score, and he did score, and that was great. His entire game, it's what adjusted board say last night, what are you doing between scoring goals? And where you see nick Robertson's least likable skills is in the neutral zone. And it's not because he can't, it's because he hasn't. There are giveaways and plays that he does. He said they were really good games. Sure. Dude, I've been the one like, I've been beating the nick Robertson drum all season. But I'm telling you, if he does not take care of the fuck, if the giveaways continue in the neutral zone, what is Sheldon Keith going to do? You go up against the Florida Panthers, they're going to eat you alive for that.

[01:25:48]

We overrated this player when he joined the team as an 18-year-old in an extremely unique circumstance with COVID. His game is maturing at a perfectly reasonable rate for a 21, 22-year-old. Keep him, develop him. He'll be fine. I still think he's going to be a good leave. I do. You should maybe be in the starting lineup next year. Just not these players.

[01:26:12]

He's got to earn that. I agree. Let him earn it. He could still be in the starting lineup for these playoffs, guys. Neutral zone. Watch him in the neutral zone in the next 12 games. Let's see what he does.

[01:26:21]

Can't wait for Connor Duhre to score an OT winner in the payoff. Yeah. All right, this is from Graham. How are the brackets doing?

[01:26:28]

The The team I had winning it all is out, apparently.

[01:26:32]

After the first weekend of March Madness, let's check in on the SDPN bracket.

[01:26:37]

I don't remember any of my picks for the non-dickname teams.

[01:26:41]

Steve has his first chosen team, the team he picked to win, Kentucky, is out, so he's struggling. Adam Wild also, his team that he picked to win is out. Yeah. Washington State, they lost over the weekend. They really let me down. You're currently sitting in sixth place out of 10. Adam and Steve, you're in fifth out of 10. Hey. Drew, producer Drew, leads the group. He's got 51 points of a possible... He's got 179 points left to possibly get. Tim's in second. Tim Horeani of Nailing the Apex. Julian McKenzie is in third, and I'm in fourth. And then Steve, Adam, Justin, our sales VP, Christina, nick from the CJ show, and Maddie rounds out the top 10. Damn.

[01:27:28]

I'm happy being in sixth, considering I knew nothing. I knew nothing.

[01:27:32]

You only got 102 possible points left in your bracket, so you might fall down the standings a little bit.

[01:27:38]

I feel good about that.

[01:27:39]

What about me? Producer Drew is first.

[01:27:41]

But he actually watches.

[01:27:43]

Yeah, his knowledge of March Madness is a little higher than the average person.

[01:27:48]

That's why you listen to Drew and stew. That's right.

[01:27:50]

They got their pics out.

[01:27:52]

This one's from Rose Ford.

[01:27:54]

Oh, yeah.

[01:27:55]

Did you hear that your assistant to the GM, Shane Doane, is going to be in Arizona on Tuesday because his son, Josh, is making his debut for the Coyotes. Josh will be the first player to play for the ASU Sun Devils, the Tuscany Roadrunners, and Arizona Coyotes. First of all, that's an incredible fact that I didn't know about the Sun Devils, Roadrunners, and Coyotes.

[01:28:20]

Second of all, thank you for being a Coyotes fan and still listening to the show because we have not been kind.

[01:28:27]

Yeah, we thought Steve might have gotten rid of all of them.

[01:28:30]

We've been fine to the Coyotes players.

[01:28:33]

Oh, I don't regret.

[01:28:35]

Like on the ice. Yeah.

[01:28:36]

And the other one is I wondered because I saw Josh Doane was getting called up and I wondered if Shane Dohn was going to go down there, and he is. And I think that's bloody wonderful. Yeah.

[01:28:48]

That is great. That's a great daddy moment.

[01:28:51]

It is. I can't wait for Leo's NHLW. Yeah.

[01:28:56]

It's going to be great. Last question comes from Barris Fuler. What What happened to those apples, Adam? You lost a number of bets where you had to owe us apples. Oh, I forgot. You never brought them in. You're right.

[01:29:07]

I did. You did. All right, apple bet.

[01:29:09]

We did not.

[01:29:09]

One of these days, I'm going to remember.

[01:29:11]

I don't know. I completely forgot about that. I don't know.

[01:29:18]

Thank you for reminding me. Now, are we ready for the video?

[01:29:21]

Sure. All right. We can play this.

[01:29:23]

Now, listen, when you're in your '50s and '60s and you've done a good chunk of your career, maybe you're more comfortable and you're excited about life, this is how I want your life to be. Wayne Gretsky. We got a lot of data. We got to just do... Wayne Gretsky and his wife just dancing. Look at Wayne. Look at him.

[01:29:42]

That is a dad ass dance move.

[01:29:47]

That is the most gifted hockey player in human history.

[01:29:51]

Yeah.

[01:29:53]

And that's his wife. And they're just having a good time. Good for them.

[01:29:56]

Basically immobile hips, but free. So free.

[01:30:01]

There is a way ex-hockey players walk.

[01:30:04]

Yeah.

[01:30:05]

And it's the hips, right? You know who doesn't walk like that is Gary Roberts. No. You see Gary Roberts walk, and it's like he's 20. But yeah.

[01:30:15]

Gress. He's having so much fun.

[01:30:16]

Roberts probably wakes up stiff as a board every morning and then just stares at his body in the mirror and goes, Move. And then it does.

[01:30:24]

There's another guy that could probably boil water with his eyes.

[01:30:28]

Oh, is All his joints go, Sorry, here.

[01:30:31]

I feel like Gretzky is living a fun life. He is. Just going on TV, talking stuff, going home, dancing.

[01:30:40]

Do you think any of those people behind him know who that is?

[01:30:43]

Probably. I think people know who Wayne Gretzky.

[01:30:46]

I don't know. They're not watching Wayne Gretsky dance.

[01:30:48]

Well, they're at a bar with Wayne Gretsky, which means they can afford to be at whatever country club he's at, which means they're probably just as rich as he is.

[01:30:54]

Yeah, they call him Wayne. Yeah.

[01:30:56]

I don't know where he is. Mr.

[01:30:58]

Gretz.

[01:31:00]

Also, it's clearly a very warm setting, and he's got a sweater and a shirt on with a collar underneath it. I just think, Man, I'd be so hot. And jeans?

[01:31:10]

I'd be boiling. How is that the first place your mind went? There's something wrong with you. I know.

[01:31:13]

It's because I get hot really. Adam. That's why I'm usually wearing T-shirt.

[01:31:15]

You got a condition, bro. That's crazy.

[01:31:19]

I don't know what the condition would be, but it's just- Hot, Sweaty boy. Hot, Sweaty boy. Is that the medical? Yeah. Okay, yeah. Well, I can't wear that in the winter.

[01:31:28]

You have terminal Hot, Sweaty boy.

[01:31:30]

I do. I do. It'd be too much. That's unbelievable. It'd be way too much.

[01:31:34]
