There could be no doubt this episode has been another headache for Humsey Youssef. Another humiliation in a premiership plagued by internal party issues and personalities. Some fear the optics of this latest setback in a big general election year.

Some of the problems that Hamza Youssef has are inherited problems that are not really of his doing. Some of the have been somewhat self-inflicted. This is something that happens to a lot of political leaders. What's happened today, this resignation is not unique to Hamza Youssef or to the SMP. It's a fairly run-of-the-mill political event in the grand scheme of things, but it's something that he could obviously do without.
