This is the Dan Leviton Show with the Stugatz Podcast.

[00:00:18]

I see the reaper around the corner. The reaper has been late to meetings. The reaper is sheepish, a bit meek, punished by management, not confident, really, I don't think. It's weird to see that the the reaper slouches. The reaper seems like he's been beat up because he doesn't attend the prep meetings to explain why this very important thing that we do every week requires his constant attention, his attention to the lines, and his attention to cheating, which he has been, you know. He's not- Cultable. -at the very least. -look, man, this a fireball offense. -part of the problem. If I didn't want, if I wasn't scared of the optics of firing the reaper and sending him out on the street in this media climate, he would have been fired for an assortment of offenses, including just attitude.

[00:01:04]

So the optics are not your life?

[00:01:06]

Not my life. Okay. I fear the bucket of death more than I fear actual death because it puts me in these ridiculous costumes. I tried two of them on. I've got to do a Captain Hook one, but my wife is very disappointed with how flimsy and shitty the fabric is, and it's embarrassing what the costume is. -so you're very upset about it. Yeah, my wife and I are very upset. We both like the costumes to be pristine and sensual. And the F1 costume is not much of a costume. It's just sweats and a helmet that's way too tight for me to successfully do the show with the helmet on.

[00:01:39]

Am I Rocky sweats?

[00:01:40]

No, they're not. I don't think those sweats would be tight on me anymore. They would be. I'm not totally sure. Maybe in my shoulders, but I saw you shirtless not but last week.

[00:01:54]

I'm just.

[00:01:55]

Glad you finally admitted.

[00:01:56]

How much you.

[00:01:56]

Like the.

[00:01:56]

Costumes because we've all known it. Yeah, I know. Look, man, I've been in hiding in front of the audience for two damn years. It's time to be free. It's time to let go. Now we got our power bag. It was all, Go, Rob, go, Rob, see, but now we're on max. And now it begins. We're giving them the quality content of a bucket of death that no one knows how to rein in, and the costumes are shittier and shittier. But we've got rising new talent in the business. It's not just Jeremy with his shitty jokes. Lucy is making big splashes every city she lands in. She is headed to the SEC Championship game this week. That's a giant one. You have the situation where Georgia, which has beaten three top 20 teams by a combined 120 to 40, can lose on a neutral field to Alabama by one and maybe not be in the playoff.

[00:02:48]

But this one feels like it's for the whole ball of wax. You're right.

[00:02:51]

I mean, we need Alabama if we want the chaos theory.

[00:02:55]

You need Alabama, yes.

[00:02:56]

You need Alabama to win because there is a situation in which everyone's going to do what Sugats always does, put so much stock on taking down Georgia, especially if you're Alabama. But you can't ignore what Texas did to Alabama.

[00:03:08]

If they win a close game and they don't put in Texas, someone in that committee has to look Steve Sarkeasian right in the eye and say you didn't make it. Right in the eye. Go right up to them in his office and say, Hey, I know you beat Texas. Most valuable win in the sport at Tuscaloosa, but you're not in.

[00:03:24]

If they win, there's a world we don't have a single SCC team in the playoff.

[00:03:28]

It's crazy. The last video that we have, are we ready to unveil it before America? It is ready. It takes curation. It takes days of gentle, gentle care.

[00:03:37]

Lucy cried on the airplane on the way to the game. I did.

[00:03:41]

She went to Michigan, Ohio State. Let's see what happened. I love you, Todd. Hi. Hi, Dan.

[00:04:01]

It's me, Lucy, and I'm here in Ann Arbor, Michigan. You could probably tell with the big giant M right there. We're here for The Game, Ohio State, Michigan. And you know what I'm here for? Not for content to steal signs for Iowa. Yeah, Michigan, you're not the only one. You're not the only one. Unless the Michigan Athletics Department is watching this, and that was just a silly little joke. Why do you hate Ohio State?

[00:04:22]

Because going to college to sell pizza for a living is not.

[00:04:25]

A fucking degree.

[00:04:26]

Why.

[00:04:27]

Doesn't anyone hate Ohio State?

[00:04:28]

It would be the better question. They're annoying.

[00:04:30]

Because they suck. They suck ass.

[00:04:32]

They are the worst losers on the planet.

[00:04:34]

Entitled. Terrible attitude. Whiney. Just a giant pain in the shit. I hate the whole state of Ohio just in general.

[00:04:40]

When you play in a stadium that's.

[00:04:41]

Shaped like a toilet seat.

[00:04:42]

It's a sh*t hole.

[00:04:43]

Because.

[00:04:43]

They like nut.

[00:04:45]

Your mascot's a nut.

[00:04:46]

And who has a mascot of a nut?

[00:04:48]

But they ain't never going to reach us. Ever, ever, ever. And they hate it.

[00:04:52]

Ohio State fans, why do you hate Michigan?

[00:04:55]

Arrogant, pumpous. You are born and you hate.

[00:04:59]

Michigan, and then you are raised to hate.

[00:05:01]

Michigan and then you go to Ohio State and you hate Michigan. Cheaters, lies.

[00:05:06]

So if I heard this correct, we just always hate Michigan. That's always the plan. How do you feel about Jim Harbaw not coaching a day?

[00:05:13]

I wish he was here. I'm going to be sick. Free Jim. Free Harball. Free Jim. Yeah, free Harball. Free Jim Harball. I love him. Back to the NFL, he goes. I would like to know where Jim.

[00:05:23]

Harball is.

[00:05:24]

Right.

[00:05:24]

Now. You hear those sirens? They were coming for Jim.

[00:05:27]

Free Jimmy.

[00:05:28]

What do you think Connor Stallions has been up to the last few weeks? I know he hasn't been laying low.

[00:05:37]

Who's Connor Stallions? Who? He's hiding.

[00:05:41]

Connor Stallions needs a statue out in.

[00:05:43]

The front of.

[00:05:43]

Michigan State. New process.

[00:05:45]

Is out of the question and something like that. This is a piece of shit.

[00:05:49]

Are you nervous about having to play? I won the Big Ten Championship game potentially.

[00:05:53]

No. No. I wasn't even nervous.

[00:05:55]

When Cade.

[00:05:55]

Matt, and me and.

[00:05:56]

Eric all went there.

[00:05:57]

Nervious?

[00:05:58]

About Iowa?

[00:05:58]

Either team beats Iowa.

[00:06:00]

By 40 next weekend.

[00:06:01]

Who? What? We're not a team. Who's a state?

[00:06:04]

We just have to kick a field goal and beat you guys.

[00:06:07]

I don't know why they keep laughing when I ask.

[00:06:08]

That question. Now remotely.

[00:06:11]

Cut the camera. I can tell they're all really scared about playing in Iowa next week.

[00:06:33]

They're fine.

[00:06:37]

It's a surprise. We're going.

[00:06:40]

To be in.

[00:06:41]

Iowa so.

[00:06:41]

Bad next week.

[00:06:42]

The Michigan Wall Marines.

[00:06:43]

Do you.

[00:06:44]

Want to be on the day of.

[00:06:45]

The show. That's a fucking looney. Have you guys ever heard of the Dan Levitard show?

[00:06:49]

It's two gods.

[00:06:50]

I watch.

[00:06:50]

It religiously every day.

[00:06:52]

I'm going to be honest, I don't.

[00:06:53]

Know who this is.

[00:06:54]

I read the.

[00:06:54]

Microphone and I knew right away.

[00:06:56]

Okay, do you guys watch the show?

[00:06:58]

No.

[00:06:59]

Not now.

[00:07:00]

Only because of you.

[00:07:00]

You were on the Levitard show.

[00:07:02]

They just took.

[00:07:03]

A picture with me thinking, Hey, you worked for the Dan and Patrick show. Who is your favorite person on the show?

[00:07:08]

That would be you.

[00:07:09]

Yes.

[00:07:09]

Jess needs some more misogynistic bane.

[00:07:13]

We need some more of that character.

[00:07:15]

Do you have to go with Dan?

[00:07:16]

No, I'll go with you. I like your content. Let's go!

[00:07:20]

I can't film anything here. Dan, I don't know if you've ever tried to film a stand-up.

[00:07:26]

We're the playing field. Let's go, Blue. Let's go, Blue. I love Dan Levitard. I love Dan Levitard. Go, Blue, baby.

[00:07:35]

Dan, that was the perfect end to the regular season and the perfect end to our Offroading series. I'm going to miss it so much. Of course, we're going to the SEC Championship Game next week because we're not going to the other one, the one in Indianapolis. And you know what? While we're at it, I just want to say we shouldn't forget about Michigan sign sealing. We shouldn't forget about it. And I think the only fair punishment is for them to forfeit the Big Ten Championship Game. This video was brought to you by Liquid. Iv. Rehydrate like an athlete on game day and wake up feeling refreshed tomorrow. You can use code Lucy for 20 % off at Liquid. Iv. Com. That's code Lucy. L-u-c-y. You spell it any different, you're wrong.

[00:08:11]

Billy Gill? Where's everyone? It's just me.

[00:08:14]

It's Cody.

[00:08:15]

They don't send anyone else to this stuff.

[00:08:17]

Greg Cody, why are you laughing about the code Lucy? Five dollars for throwing your voice into.

[00:08:25]

The mic. Yeah, sorry.

[00:08:26]

About that. Did we wake you up from a slumber?

[00:08:28]

No, I was enjoying the hell of that. What a great video produced by Lucy.

[00:08:32]

Thank.

[00:08:33]

You. Awesome.

[00:08:33]

That was the end of it, though.

[00:08:34]

That was the end of it, even though it's.

[00:08:35]

Not ending. Yeah, I don't know why I said that. We're still going. We got the SEC Championship this week, Army-Navy, bowl season. We'll do stuff after that I haven't figured.

[00:08:44]

Out what that is right yet. There was a great suggestion in there. I would be willing to build Michigan a Connor Stallion statue if they win the national championship. I will make it an ornate, wonderful thing, like expensive. I'm willing to do that if Michigan wins the championship.

[00:08:59]

Is he going to be dressed as a CMU staff.

[00:09:02]

He has to be, yes. But it would be made of a material that would make Michigan men proud. He will do this. Yes. I'm offering to fund a project on behalf of MentalArk Media to build Michigan a Connor Stallion statue that I will insist be put in a prominent place on campus, and it will, unlike some of the other-.

[00:09:20]

You need approval for that.

[00:09:21]

-statutes in this country that people argue over. Yeah, we're going to need a lot of money to do it.

[00:09:26]

Yeah, pure bronze.

[00:09:28]

It's expensive.

[00:09:29]

Right. Where Michigan fans celebrating, beating Ohio State, or did they get to face Iowa?

[00:09:35]

They found out very quickly that I was an Iowa fan on the field, and that was not a pleasant experience for me. I won't say they're my favorite fan base I've ever.

[00:09:42]

Interacted with. If Michigan forfeited, it would be a tie.

[00:09:45]

Yeah, pretty much. I'd take it.

[00:09:57]

Jeremy, you are first. Let's do this quickly, please. This God-forsaken thing.

[00:10:03]

I got to find out. You got it. This God-forsaken thing brought to you by Kentucky Fried Chickens. Two for $5 chicken wraps. Now a new Mac & Cheese, Classic and spicy slaw. That's right. Chicken wraps are back at KFC. It's finger-licking good.

[00:10:16]

I got the Baltimore Ravens who were on a buy this week. A lot of buys. A lot of buys this week.

[00:10:21]

Congratulations. I like them in that one.

[00:10:24]

We've got Greg Cody. That is a joke that's been made since the buy was invented and the same fake chuckle that Co-hosts have been giving for years. We liked.

[00:10:32]

That one. To supporting my teammate, that's all.

[00:10:34]

We won the buy. The buy week was not along. -ramaging. -we got Stugatts and Cody today.

[00:10:43]

I had to cough.

[00:10:44]

Excellent news. No one heard it.

[00:10:46]

No vote to find that you would find me professional.

[00:10:49]

No, just dead air. Just dead air.

[00:10:51]

Hey, you're trying to fill the gaps, man. Support your teammates. That's what the laugh is for. That's right. Filling your gaps for 20.

[00:10:57]

Years, man. All we.

[00:10:58]

Heard was-Hell, yeah. Well, I got.

[00:11:00]

The.

[00:11:01]

Cardinals. The Cardinals are-At the Stealers. At the Stealers, they are five and a half point dark.

[00:11:09]

Thank you. Craig, you can have that T-shirt, fill in your gaps for 20 years.

[00:11:12]

All right.

[00:11:13]

I got it. Get on a crystal ball.

[00:11:14]

Everything.

[00:11:15]

Buttered and better.

[00:11:16]

The merch store is coming out again this week. This week. We got an assortment of T-shirt ideas out there.

[00:11:23]

I got a blue helmet.

[00:11:24]

-is that the Wizard of Oz? -is that the Wizard of Oz? -hill.

[00:11:26]

What does that mean?

[00:11:28]

-lions.

[00:11:29]

-lions, tigers, or bears?

[00:11:30]

-bears are on a by week. -the bears are on a by. Congratulations.

[00:11:33]

Thank you, Chuck.

[00:11:37]

Dad, Stugatz already has.

[00:11:39]

The.

[00:11:39]

Rummage. I invented the rummage.

[00:11:41]

No, you didn't. You started doing it this season. Stugatz has.

[00:11:44]

Been doing it for five years.

[00:11:46]

Oh, the bears.

[00:11:47]

How did everyone get the bears?

[00:11:48]

Yeah.

[00:11:49]

It's the live.

[00:11:50]

Where's Billy and Tony?

[00:11:52]

Wait a minute.

[00:11:53]

The bears. That's not good for anybody.

[00:11:56]

I like the bears in that one. It's good.

[00:11:58]

For.

[00:11:58]

Us. The bears. Bears.

[00:12:03]

The.

[00:12:04]

Bears. The bears. The key to that is to make the S a C. The bears. What? Like that.

[00:12:13]

The bears.

[00:12:14]

The bears. The S becomes a C.

[00:12:16]

The bears.

[00:12:17]

Let me hear you. The bears.

[00:12:19]

It's just clearly an S at the end.

[00:12:21]

No, it's a C. Right. Say it's a- An S is a Z sound. Right. A C is a, The bears. Yes, like that. I got a seminar on that if.

[00:12:34]

[00:13:42]

Don't live a tard.

[00:13:44]

I heard the hotel industry is moving away from providing shampoo and soap.

[00:13:47]

Don't get me.

[00:13:48]

Started on them.

[00:13:49]

Do not get me started on hotels and stuff.

[00:13:51]

That they do. What they take from me, I feel like I'm entitled to take something from them. Thank you, Billy. They're going to.

[00:13:56]

Throw away the shampoo. They're going to throw away the soap. I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about the sheets and I'm talking about the towels. Stugats. Oh, we really care about the environment. So please hang up your towels. Get out of here. You just don't want to wash these towels because it's going to cost you money to wash these towels. This whole thing about you're saving the whales or you're saving the turtles or whatever because I put my towel on a hangar. It is so full of it. You just don't want to give me fresh towels every day. Just call it what it is. Tell me you don't want to give me fresh towels. I'm still going to throw it on the floor. I feel like water is a renewable resource. You're not really saving the ocean by using water to clean my towel, are you? Am I missing something? What am I missing? Nail right on the head. Am I missing something? The end of the story. This is the Dan Levator Show with the Stugat.

[00:14:42]

The last time we saw this man, one of the most credible information insiders in the history of the game. He was trying to sell us a bill of goods that his natural scent was just coming out of the gym and wonderful. And we found out that it was a fragrance, a $92 serum, the investigative work of Lucy, an up-and-coming journalist, as opposed to this washed, lying, Jay Glaser. You're the one who exposed him as being the user of serums, correct?

[00:15:12]

Yes. And you say journalism.

[00:15:14]

Is dead. No, it is not dead. I know sports illustrated has artificial intelligence, but we've got real intelligence here. Lucy, you are still feeling the shame of this, right? Jay, I've got a number of football questions, but it is now known throughout the galaxy that your wife knows how to make you smell wonderfully and expensively, while you, her husband, think somehow it's his natural musk?

[00:15:38]

Well, first of all, I think it's now been labeled Serum Gate. It's never been good to be part of a gate. However, it's fiancé, not husband and wife yet. I still have time to screw this up.

[00:15:52]

Okay, I'm rooting for you. It's me.

[00:15:55]

Just screw.

[00:15:56]

It up. I'm going to get to the football in a second. But I do believe in the idea, man, Jay's been through some shit. He's crawled through some dark, and Jay can talk about love in a way that your fiancé has taught you some things.

[00:16:11]

Oh, my God. You know the best thing my fiancée, Rosie, has done for me? See, a lot of times, people like me, when you have this depression, anxiety, you don't feel you're worthy of love, so you try to sabotage it. You try to screw it up. And you push people away because the living in question of when it's going to end is almost more painful than it ending. So you force it to end. And I've done that with every relationship. Where Rosie Tennison has been amazing for me is she has told me every time I've had one of these meltdowns, Hey, I'm not going anywhere. I got you. That's really the first person who's ever done that for me. And the other thing is when you do it, you feel so much shame that you acted like such a jackass. And that usually lasts for you for a while. She has such short term memory. And within 10 minutes, she really convinced me like, no, babe, it's over. It's good. I understand you. I get it. I totally understand it. And Rosie has done a lot of work on herself, too, and she's gone through a lot also.

[00:17:12]

And Rosie, I think, has lived to help out everybody else. So she's perfect for me, man, and it's been great. We just had a great week in New York. We got to light up the Empire of the Empire, probably me and Jimmy Johnson and Kurt Menifie brought Rosie up there with her New Yorker. Man, that's a bucket list, man. It was... It was pretty cool, man. I'm taking her back to my home.

[00:17:32]

That's so awesome. Jay, let me paint a picture for you, okay? Just give me your opinion. Hold on.

[00:17:35]

What happened there? You guys didn't like you didn't see the sincerity in that. That was not so awesome. You didn't see the sincerity in that? That was so awesome. Disingenuous. You didn't see the... You didn't see the sincerity in that? No, it felt like a transition. I mean.

[00:17:43]

What else do I say? It's so awesome. I can.

[00:17:45]

Make it seem a little bit more sincere.

[00:17:47]

It just seemed, I.

[00:17:48]

Think, Chris- Jay, that's so awesome. It really is. Let me paint it. I talk about love.

[00:17:51]

Because no one's questioning my manhood, so I'm good.

[00:17:54]

Exactly.

[00:17:55]

I just talk openly and be vulnerable about this. No one's going to call me a woman soon. That's why I think more dudes need to do this. Every time I've told you guys and Dan has gotten us closer together, as you talk like, dudes never talk like this to each other. Every time I've talked like this with my the doodliest dude on the planet, the most savage, freaking killers there are, it's brought us all closer together.

[00:18:18]

That's great. Now, Jay, let me paint this picture for you, okay? So listen, your fiancé goes outside, right? And it's a little bit colder than normal. Okay, she's walking the dog. When she comes back inside, should she tell you, Hey, it's cold. Wear a sweatshirt.

[00:18:35]

Where are we going? It's not a trick question. Greg Cody is mad at his wife because it's 59. It was 59 degrees here this morning. His wife went out, went to work, and he thinks he's furious with her that she had an obligation, a responsibility to call. I know you're distrustful right now, Jay. Man, he's suspicious of you right now, stew guy. He thinks you're making fun of him. No. You're not the one that's been called Google.

[00:18:56]

And a weather rep.

[00:18:58]

Fucking look at yourself.

[00:18:59]

Thank you, Jay. Thank you, Jay Blazer. Jay, you would tell her you would. You would tell her it's chilly outside.

[00:19:06]

My fucking fiancé don't dress me? I'm a grown-up. It's not your mom. It's not our responsibility.

[00:19:13]

She's been outdoors. I have it. Do me the courtesy. It's not her obligation. It would have been nice if she had said, Hey, by the way, it's cold out.

[00:19:20]

Hey, Rosie, how cold is it outside?

[00:19:22]

It was 65, I mean.

[00:19:25]

You should open the door, check yourself.

[00:19:27]

That's a good point. I did like Jake Laser- He.

[00:19:29]

Makes a good point.

[00:19:30]

-jack Laser bucking up when I was, Hey, man, my fiancé doesn't dress me, but that serum is delightful. That serum that she gets me.

[00:19:37]

Is- Wait, hey, just to clarify something, you guys falsely accused me of wearing cologne. And just because I was a Jersey, New York guy, I think you guys think I'm still the Jekar, Newark guy. I'm not. So that was false information. That's all I was saying. I don't wear cologne. I just happen to use this other beautiful skin, moisturizer stuff that works with my natural fairs.

[00:20:00]

It does work. There's no disputing. A greater truth has never been told. It absolutely works. I was light-headed and confused when you came in because you smelled so delightful. I want to get to some football stuff with you. Yes, let's do it. Okay. Can we actually keep quarterbacks healthy? Because Cleveland is now on its third one. It's going to be Joe Flacko, or fourth one. Excuse me, fourth one.

[00:20:25]

Yeah, I know it's difficult, and I don't know if it's because online help is just not as good. I'm not really sure what it is. I don't think this is something that suddenly, oh, my God, there's definitely a lot of quarterbacks hurt this year, but there was last year, the year before that. The year before that, we've talked about this for a while. Every year it seems when you have these injuries, people say, Oh, my gosh, why are there so many injuries this year? First of all, it's a violent game. That's the bottom line. It's a violent game. I think we love it because it's a violent game. That's number one. Number two, what's interesting also, just about, let's say, offensive alignment. Allignment, I remember Bruce Arons telling me when he would get rookie offensive lineman, he said, I almost have a different practice for them because these guys have never been in a three-point stance, never really been to huddle. Everything from Pop counter to high school to college, you're looking over on the sign over there and you're looking at signs or these big placards up there, and it's not the same way in the NFL.

[00:21:24]

I just think finding those offensive alignment, even like the trade deadline, everybody wants an offensive lineman. There's none. No one's given up offensive line because it's just I don't think the quality of those offensive lines are probably what they used to be. That's why you see guys also like Trent Williams and Lane Johnson and Jason Kelsie, who are old-school gangster type of guys still at the top of their game after all these years, those old-school guys just aren't around as much anymore.

[00:21:53]

Jay, you know, though, that this evolution, when they compare football to war and stuff and make this stuff about survival of the fittest and they're all fighting over money and where the advantages are, we're making defensive lineman who can't be blocked. We're making defensive linemann who are going to injure you when you try to block them and are going to injure your quarterback. The Ravens said what happened with Burrow. The Ravens put their name on. When you play us, that can happen to your quarterback. We're going to break his wrist.

[00:22:20]

But I don't think it's more… No, look at those old giants with Lawrence Tarrow, Leonard Marshall and Carl Banks and Harry Carson. No, those old 49ers to the Raiders defense with Howie Long. Are they old Pittsburgh Steeler's defenses? No, I don't think.

[00:22:36]

It's- But smaller. But smaller, Jay. These are smaller human beings.

[00:22:40]

They're smaller training like half of them.

[00:22:42]

Right now.

[00:22:42]

They're smaller.

[00:22:43]

You're training like half of them.

[00:22:45]

You know how much bigger Miles is.

[00:22:48]

No, I'm saying that Howie Long is smaller, that the players from that age who are hitting the quarter- Howie.

[00:22:53]

Long is not smaller. Howie Long is.

[00:22:54]

Not smaller. I'm not saying small under most circumstances. I'm talking- No.

[00:23:00]

Those guys were bigger back then. First of all, I think players are… It's interesting. Back in the day, when I started coming to giants in '93, you would see guys come in this league. Modern medicine was really rampant in the NFL. I think nowadays guys don't have to actually juice like they used to because of the supplement business and because of how much you now know about what you could do for certain foods and different supplements and different vitamins. You don't have to do it. But I think back in the day, Guys, we're coming to the league, man. We're like freaking four, four heads coming out. Are you kidding me? No, I think they were monsters back then.

[00:23:39]

Jay, where do you think Bill Belichick is going to be coaching next year?

[00:23:43]

You know, it's interesting. If we tried this conversation five years ago, and I told you guys this the last time I was with you, all 32 teams would be lining up. It's just not the case anymore. The style of beating dudes down doesn't work anymore, don't connect. And the reason why I think a lot of it is this right here, because guys are going in a locker and they're getting beat down constantly. And I just had this talk with a head coach recently. He said, No, we're good about keeping everything inside our... Everything inside here. I said, Dude, there is no more inside here. You may think it's kept in your building, but when these guys go to their phones, nothing's kept inside anymore. That old school mentality doesn't work. You can't just say, Oh, there's no noise in our building. There's noise in your building because what these guys see on their phones. You can say as much as you want, Oh, get off social media, but not off social media. It just doesn't happen. So I think guys get beat down so much. Now when you have guys like Mike Tomlin who loves you up, or Mike McDaniels, who loves you up, or Dan Campbell who loves you up, or Sean McVay who loves you up, that's what's working more in the NFL than the old school way of we're just going to beat you down and tell you what a moron you are.

[00:24:55]

I don't think that style works. And look, you just saw with Josh McDaniels out with the Raiders, right? And those guys ripped into it. Plus, players have more power now than they ever have. They have a bigger voice than they ever had. So we asked where Bill Belichick is going to go. I just think the league has changed where five years ago, every team would be lined up to Bill Belchick. Now I think they're going to look at it and say, Oh, man, he's definitely a draw. He's definitely great. He however does need a good personnel guy with him because their personnel decisions have not been good.

[00:25:28]

We've got less than a minute left here, Jay, but we'll come back with you to talk some other football things. What you just described, though, Jay, is how you would describe a game passing someone by. It's not in the Xs and Os, though it can happen there, too. It's not even in the front office, though it can happen there, too. You're saying today's players will not connect with the greatest coach we've ever seen. You're saying his style.

[00:25:53]

Is outdated. They connect with D'Amico Ryan. They do.

[00:25:56]

The players do. Absolutely. They connect with Mike, with Daniel. Absolutely. They connect with Dan Campbell. They'll die for Dan Campbell. And I told Dan this. I said, Dude, the reason why you're so great and what works for you is there's so little authenticity in these cats' lives now because of social media, because they're comparing themselves to everybody else's freaking Instagram and Facebook and filtered fraction of a second of highlights and people are tweeting at you. Listen, when you get tweeted at, it could be some 10-year-old kid in mom's basement, it's still just as loud as a 32-year-old guy who's an executive. You don't know. But when you have a guy like Dan Campbell who's really showing that he loves these guys, he's authentic, and a lot of guys need that. They need that love. They need that father loving it in a way, that big brother loving it in a way, that's not what Bill Belichick was doing. And Bill's a genius when it comes to game planning. There's nothing like… But at the same time now, these guys just need a different culture than they have in the past.

[00:27:01]

Jay, we're going to come back with you right after this. Don Levitard. You keep mentioning Lou Harris and- Lou Williams. Lou Williams and Montrell Harris, you keep mentioning- Harold. Harold, excuse me. Stugats. Nick, thank you so much for being on with us. Really enjoy your work. Thanks for having me. Have a great day.

[00:27:20]

This is the Don Levitard Show with the Stugats.

[00:27:27]

Jay, instead of bombarding you with our curiosities, and I will tell the people, as I've told them before, that Jay Glaser has dedicated his life to mental health work. He is the host of The Unbreakable Podcast. He is the author of Unbreakable: How I Turn My Depression and Anxiety Into Motivation, and YouCan, too. All of which is nice, all of which is sweet. It's syrup. It is light. It's not why he's here. He's here to talk football. He's here because we need football information. Instead of asking you the questions that we're curious about, what this week in football has been the most interesting stuff to you? A, a timeline sped up in Carolina that means you get one years ahead, Coach, that's 12 games. We have not seen that.

[00:28:07]

It's the same thing over and over and over. I actually talked to David Tepper about this at the Super Bowl this year, the Commissioner's Ball, and I got really frustrated. Actually, Rosie is great with me because she calms down the old glaze that pops out way too much. But I said this to him and other owners. I always tell these owners that, Look, would you trust Mike Tomlin, Sean Payton, Sean McVeigh, Kyle Chanan to run your business? ' And they say, Oh, no, absolutely. Totally different. I go, Then why do you think you can make a second round pick? It's the same thing. Let your people do their thing. What happens with owners also, and I know what happened in Carolina, is they had such a bad experience with Matt Rule. And Matt had gone in there, hired a lot of his friends, just didn't think there was so much animosity down there, what owners do is then they go and they try and hire the complete opposite. So if they have a guy in there that thinks of a tyrant, then they go and try and hire Bambi. And when Bambi doesn't work, they go back and try and hire a tyrant.

[00:29:12]

Same thing happens with, Oh, we need an offensive coach or a defensive coach. And that's where they mess up also. I know they're going to look at it now and go, We need an offensive coach to develop our quarterback. No, man, what you need is a culture guy. You need a culture guy, somebody who builds your culture of winning. That's why John Horrebar wins every year. That's why Mike Tomlin wins every year. That's why Kyle shanehan wins every year. And look, for a while, Bill Belichick had a certain culture in there, and that's why you win over and over.

[00:29:41]

And over. But now no one wants that culture guy. Now you're telling us the greatest guy because Mac Jones is his quarterback, the Belichick, the ultimate culture maker. Now that's not the thing that works anymore. I understand what-.

[00:29:52]

Well, you know what? That old-school coaching used to work. And I told you guys that crazy Randy Couture story last time. Randy told me a great coaching thing a few years ago because when we were coaching our fighters, I'd get mad at shit. I would jump all over these guys. I'm like, Holy fuck. How many times have I got to tell you? Don't drop your hands? Randy said, We can't tell them that anymore. Only tell them what you want. You can't tell them what you don't want anymore. I was like, What? He said, You can't tell them what you don't want anymore. Don't tell them anymore. Don't drop your hands. Now only tell them, keep your hands up. It's just changed. But it goes back to, again, Carolina, you have certain owners that once they meddle too much, they got to look at themselves and they don't because they think, just because I started this business over here, here, means I'll be great at this business. That doesn't really make any sense for anything else in life. Just because you run a great bank doesn't mean you can run a great restaurant. Totally different. You can't be a great chef just because you run a great bank.

[00:30:59]

Okay.

[00:31:00]

Jay, because he's a medal some owner, because they don't have a first-round pick, because they have the wrong quarterback from last year's draft, it sounds crazy. But are they going to have a hard time hiring a head coach?

[00:31:13]

No, they won't because everybody… People always say that these young coaches, a lot of times… I'll say this. They did want Ben Johnson last year for the Lions. And what I love about Ben Johnson, who I think is the only big offensive coach right now. And that's why I think you have other culture type of guys out there. The Louis Anarama from the Benrels and Dan Quinn, obviously, and Jeff O'Brick from the Jets, culture type of guys. But Ben was like, Hey, I'm not ready yet, which I love. None of these guys say, I'm not ready yet. They jump at the chance. Normally, people will jump at a chance for a head coaching job, even if it looks terrible. I remember when the Saints were hired in Sean Payton back in the day, they were in the middle of Hurricane Katrina, they were displaced, and yet guys were still lining up for that job. I think that every coach looks at it and goes, I'll be able to turn that place around. I'll be fine with that owner.

[00:32:15]

Jay, we saw it again Monday night. Scoring in the NFL is at a decades-long low, every week, over, unders in the low 30s. Does the NFL have a problem? And how do you fix it?

[00:32:29]

No, I don't really have a problem at all.

[00:32:31]

You like that?

[00:32:34]

Yeah. I'm old school. Again, I grew up giant fan, so I was just always love running game and defenses, man. I love it. I love Smashville football.

[00:32:42]

Jim.

[00:32:42]

Burke. I like that. I love good defenses, but I do think a lot of the problem, too, is, yeah, I mean, guys, you're looking like Minnesota. It is ridiculous to think that Josh Dobbs came in there a couple of weeks ago, didn't know anybody or any of the plays, was still able to win a game. It's ridiculous. And I don't think that there is enough depth there at the quarterback position. And I think there's a lot of it is, look, we see, Bryce, there's a lot of guys like that size in college, right? And no one goes near him. But Bryce is just so advanced here between the years. And I know you don't see it here, but he was like, here's a coach out there and his preparation. But because there's so many undersized guys in college that succeed, nobody really wants them playing quarterback in the NFL. They move them to another position. So you don't have that same depth coming in to the NFL. That's why you're going to have a problem. I know they're trying to protect these quarterbacks, but also like, Listen, guys, no one really spars anymore. No one touches each other.

[00:33:51]

I say this and some players agree, some players don't agree, but man, you're going to fight. You got to spa, you got to get your body ready. No one does a lot of touch each other or anything like that. I do think there's a lot more injuries because your body is just not ready for it.

[00:34:09]

You're talking about practice, but tell me what you think of Boomer, Assayison saying that the jets miss out on free agents because no one wants to play on that turf.

[00:34:19]

No, but then the giants would, too.

[00:34:21]

Yeah.

[00:34:22]

No, I think, well, jets didn't really miss out on free agents this past year, but I don't think that's the case at all. I think that a lot goes in the. I look at it also like, first of all, Miami Dolphins, no state tax here in Miami. They should have their pick a litter wherever they go. Same with the Dallas Cowboys. No state tax, great place, all that. The Arizona Cardinals should be out. Scott is phenomenal. They should be out recruiting everybody. I think it's incredible that some of these teams get the free agents to come there, especially when you see guys go to some of these cold weather teams, they think that they're part of a turnaround. But I don't think the guys are looking at it saying, Man, I'm not going to go there because of that turf. Because if that was the case, guys wouldn't be going to the giants also.

[00:35:18]

What else did you find interesting this week outside of Carolina? Was there something going on with you and the giants?

[00:35:25]

Oh, being the giant, yeah, I just put out that there was… It's so funny. I put out something about Brian Dable and Mike Martinell, and they're being bad attention there. I don't know if it's going to last the relationship to the rest of this relationship the rest of the season. I didn't think it's going to happen next year either. I got killed by a bunch of the people and giant fans. And listen, I've been covering the giants now for 31 years. I don't get shit wrong when it comes to the giants. I remember a few years ago breaking that the giants were going to trade Odell, Beckham, and I got murdered for it. And you got to look at my tweet that I sent as a result of me getting murdered for it. And whenever I say something about the giants, people get so damn angry at me. I'm always like, Do you guys get this pissed off when your kid comes home with a D and his report card? No. But also I'm very thorough in what I do. I didn't do anything bad about either guy. I'm like, Hey, these two just need to...

[00:36:31]

There's too much friction. There's too much tension. I don't know if they can co-exist. They're good for each other if they can. But it's a shame that it's gotten to this level. And I thought it was interesting they went to Game Ball right after that and all that. It was an interesting thing. And these fans started killing me. Oh, yeah. Great tension there, Jay Glaser. They gave him the Game Ball. I don't just put stuff out, gang, that is.

[00:36:57]

A hearsay. The giants fans, he dismissed you with a gang. He said, I don't get shit wrong. Giants fans, you need to back off. Not here, not on this one. If you want to come after him on other teams, he doesn't get them wrong there either.

[00:37:11]

I don't get that shit.

[00:37:12]

Wrong either. No, but about giants… But especially not there. Thirty-one years, Dan. The 31 years. I'm sorry. Thirty-one years. I've been murdered more by.

[00:37:20]

Giant fans than any other fans. I'm like, God, I've been here since '93, and I haven't got anything wrong in all these years, man. God, give me a little grace here, but if you don't want to.

[00:37:30]

Fine, that's fine. That's fine. Let's get out of here on this. We're going to do this in reverse order. Three, two, one, most meddlesom owners in your sport. We're going to go from bottom to top. So we've got maximum.

[00:37:43]

Drama here. It was Dan Stryder.

[00:37:45]

He's gone, which is fantastic. Hold on a second. Slow it down. Three, two, one. We're going to do this in order. Number three, the third most meddlesom owner in football, according to Jay Glaser.

[00:37:59]

Oh, man. Let me see here because I got my top two. Oh, I'd probably say Woody Johnson.

[00:38:07]

Number two.

[00:38:10]

Jimmy Hazel.

[00:38:12]

Number one.

[00:38:15]

David Teffer.

[00:38:15]

We've got number one already. Mark Davis. No.

[00:38:19]

No, Jerry Jones.

[00:38:20]

No, Jerry Jones.

[00:38:21]

Not Jerry Jones. No, not as much. Again, these guys will come like the dance nivers of the world and the Jimmy Hazels. They're coming in and say, Hey, let's go get Johnny Mantell when he's not really even on the board. Just let these guys do their jobs.

[00:38:40]

Jay, good seeing you. He's the host of The Unbreakable Podcast. He's the author of Unbreakable: How I Turned My Depression and Anxiety Into Motivation, and you Ken too. He's the insider for Fox NFL Sundays as good as it gets. He never gets it wrong, giants fans. Go bleep yourself. Leave him alone. Thank you, out, Jay. Nice seeing you, sir.

[00:39:02]

Hey, guys. Love you.

[00:39:03]

See you, Jay.

[00:39:04]

Did you guys get uncomfortable? It felt like he was talking about love. I love hearing Jay Glaser talk about love. I do, too.

[00:39:11]

Uncomfortable. You guys said, Well, because you didn't.

[00:39:13]

Sound- You weren't super sincere.

[00:39:14]

You weren't sincere. You said that's great, and then you went to your.

[00:39:19]

Football court. Well, that was about the Empire.

[00:39:20]

State Building. Right. Plus you said that's awesome.

[00:39:23]

You know what? Actually, those two guys is right about the Empire State Building. Menophi can't be there. It can be all about love and your can't say, but Menifie needs to not be there for it to be maximum romantic. We got to get Kurt Menophi out of there.
