Add subtitles in Uscreen

Step by step

1. Upload the same video file you published on Uscreen to HappyScribe. You can start with the free trial.
2. Choose the spoken language. The AI creates subtitles in a few minutes, in 150+ languages, with up to 98% accuracy.
3. Review the text and timing in the online subtitle editor, and translate the subtitles into 80+ languages to reach members abroad.
4. Export an SRT or VTT file for each language.
5. In your Uscreen admin, go to "Content > Videos" and select the video.
6. Scroll down to "Subtitles and Captions", drag or click to upload your file, then click "Save Changes".

Subtitle formats Uscreen supports

Uscreen supports .VTT and .SRT files, and HappyScribe exports both. You can upload as many language files as you need for each video. Members choose a language with the subtitles button in the web player and mobile apps, or in the player settings on TV apps. See Uscreen's subtitles guide for screenshots.

Subtitle track or burned-in subtitles?

Use subtitle files for your catalog. Members can turn them on or off, switch languages, and you can replace a file without re-uploading the video. Keep in mind that subtitles are off by default in Uscreen, so members have to activate them in the player.

Burn subtitles in when the text must always be visible, for example on a trailer or free preview you also post on social media. Add the subtitles to the video in HappyScribe, export it with burned-in text and upload that version.

Does Uscreen create captions automatically?

Yes, for newly uploaded or replaced videos when your storefront uses English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German or French, and only in the video's original language. For translations or older catalog videos, upload your own file.

Why aren't my subtitles showing in the Uscreen player?

Subtitles are off by default, so viewers must turn them on in the player. If they still don't appear, check that the SRT or VTT file is properly formatted and was saved with "Save Changes".

Why are my subtitles out of sync in Uscreen?

Check the timestamps in the file first. Uscreen plays videos in Drop Frame format, so your source video should be Drop Frame too, and creating subtitles from the exact file you uploaded keeps the timing aligned.

Can I add subtitles to videos already in my catalog?

Yes, uploading an SRT or VTT file works on any existing video. Uscreen's automatic captions only run on new or replaced videos, so a HappyScribe file is the way to subtitle older content without replacing it.
