• Rev processes user data to train in-house AI, and its terms say that use is perpetual, so it continues after you cancel. Even if you’re paying $59.99 per month for the Pro plan, you cannot opt out
• Rev has solid security, including SOC 2 Type II, SOC 3, PCI, HIPAA, and CJIS, but it doesn’t have ISO 27001, the certification EU procurement teams check first

If file transcription is what you’re looking for, Amberscript can be another option. It’s based in Amsterdam, and it sells the same two things Rev does: machine transcription for speed and human transcription for accuracy. Amberscript works best for governments, universities, courts, and healthcare.

Rev's human-led transcripts and subtitles are the reason most people pay for Rev, and it's also the part a European DPO asks the hardest questions about. Way With Words, a UK company doing human transcription since 2002, answers those questions differently.

Both vet their transcribers, so the difference is in scale. Rev puts its transcriptionist count above 72,000, all claiming files from a shared queue. In contrast, Way With Words gates entry behind an assessment first, verifies ID for independent contractors, and makes them sign confidentiality and data protection clauses.

Rev's human captions meet ADA, FCC, and WCAG standards for American broadcasters. Since the European Accessibility Act began applying in June 2025, these aren't the standards European teams are measured by. Subly, a London company, built its product around the European list instead.

Subly vs. Rev

Subly's compliance framing covers EAA along with WCAG, ADA, and ACA. It also produces things the EAA asks for that Rev doesn't include, such as audio descriptions and closed captions that mark non-speech elements like sounds and actions.

• No published ISO 27001 or SOC 2, and the privacy policy setting out both clauses was last updated in December 2021
